TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 936 – Share Your Audience

Monday Topic: Credibility —

Quote: “…you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back” MayaAngelou

Woah, what’s up?  Has live turned completely upside down… like a month ago you never would have imagined your life today.

I know I had that moment yesterday at the grocery store.

It was that moment I was standing in line and felt like I was in an unrecognizable country of empty shelves and 6′ distances.  It makes me sad.

But here’s the deal… this is reality, for now.

You are going through your own individual struggle but one thing I will say is leaders need to lead.

As the expert of your business you are struggling to pivot… but there is one thing you have, your audience.

Now more than ever they need to hear from you.

Not in the bargain bargain bargain sense.  They need you to lead.

Not in the “everything is going to be OK” sense.

They just need to hear from you… think about what they need know.   And here’s the deal… think out of the box.  The biggest asset you have is your tribe and it’s time to share it.

There are lots of businesses in your area and information is a commodity.  Share information.

Often I use examples from our marina…

Right now we are “out of season”, granted we are rapidly approaching the boating season, but right now we can help our area businesses by sharing information with our customers.  We started a restaurant guide to open businesses… and this week we are starting an online group to celebrate the area by sharing good memories.

It’s a simple thing, but it’s a big value to our customers.  They visit our area all summer and care about the businesses, they appreciate the information.

This is a different form of leadership, but very important.

Share your audience.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 930 – Do What Ross Says…

Monday Topic: Credibility —

Quote: “Discover your micro-demographic”

Do you remember the episode of Friends where Ross bought a new sofa and he enlists Rachel and Chandler to help move the sofa.  The three are trying to get the enormous up the stairs.  They are trying to make a corner and Ross is yelling, “pivot.  Pivot. PIVOT!”

Well, now is a good time to look at your products and services to see how you can pivot.

I was chatting with an owner of a franchise restaurant on Sunday.  He was talking about how business has fallen off due to the virus and he was worried because a big source of his crowd was sports teams and they have suspended games.

Well…

Time to listen to Ross.

PIVOT

People still eat, people still want to have someone cook for them, people still want to be treated special.

People just might not want to leave their home…

SO put your effort into the delivery aspect of your business.

OK, now you.  It might be time to pivot.

Find your micro niche in your business, the one that will work best in this time of adjustment.  Think about how you have served your tribe and then micro niche this… what new service can you focus on OR what existing service can you enhance.

Remember, you are the expert of your business and customers look to you as a leader.  They want to continue that relationship, help them make it happen.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 924 – What Do Your Customers Need to Hear From You Today?

Monday Topic: Credibility —

Quote: “You need a vision that is so big that it is compelling, not only to others, but to you.”

In the middle of December I signed up for an online course.  Since it’s Monday I thought this would be an excellent topic.  It’s a “walk the walk” type of story…

Monday is the day we discuss how to increase our social proof.  We want to have our customers “know like and trust us” and an amazing way to do this is to position ourselves as leaders of the tribe.

But to be the leader we must have information to lead… so back to my original statement… back in December I signed up for an online course.

I’ve wanted to create a course to create students of the Infinity Marketing Machine.  I know I teach the concept in this blog… but the importance of registering for a course and going deep into how it can help you at your business is an exciting idea to me.

But, I’m not a classically trained teacher. I’m a marketer.  Sure we tell stories and seek to understand the needs and wants of our customers, but teaching is a different art. Thus, I’ve been stuck in the middle of a bunch of ideas without a focus.

The course I registered for helped to focus the idea, and then I started learning.  Oh my, the instructors are amazing.  I love writing research reports… I know that sounds like a crazy thing, but it’s something I enjoy.

But the missing piece was to get out of my own way and think of what a student would need.  The ability to go back to what made me excited to start out and discover the Infinity Marketing Machine and figure out how to teach that.

Well… the “Infinity Product” was born, sort of, it’s been a busy 6 weeks of messaging, tweaking, and putting together an amazing product to help people really understand how an infinity product will benefit the customers/tribe at their own business.

It’s been fun… but I realized today – while I’m done with a lot of it, I have a whole bunch more to go!

That’s why today’s quote was so much fun.

“You need a vision that is so big that it is compelling, not only to others, but to you.”

Well… I’m freaked out by my vision, just like you are when I encourage you to create content on a consistent basis.  When teach that you need to lead and continue to do things to build your credibility… it’s scary to put yourself out there.

But congratulations, I’m happy you are!  So today, put yourself in your customer’s shoes.  Think about what they need from you to see you as a leader.  Do they need to hear a story of your most recent accomplishment, an article you just read, a seminar you attended about a new law or regulation affecting your industry.

What do your customers need to hear from you?

Now give it to them.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 920 – How Do You Gain Expertise?

Monday Topic: Credibility —

Quote: “Never become so much of an expert that you stop gaining expertise.” DWaitley

What did you learn today?

That was a question I remember being asked every night at dinner… all the while I was growing up.

So what happens we “grow up”?  Is it no longer popular to learn?

We go through the first 18, 22, or even longer, years getting an Education.  We graduate. Then often we stop seeking knowledge.

But to best serve your customers you need to maintain and expand your expertise.  Sure, you could continue with formal education… but often conferences and seminars can increase your knowledge base.

Reading or listening to book increases your knowledge and so does the consumption of trade magazines.

What else can you do?

One amazing way to increase knowledge is to take an online course.  The Infoproduct industry is expanding quickly allowing you to gain (or keep up) with knowledge from your phone!

Take a look through an online course guide and almost anything you can imagine is there… the next time you have trouble with a computer program, look it up… someone probably created a course.

And that’s the catch – someone.  When you position yourself as an expert due to experience you are able to create educational materials for others.  It’s important to share this type of information, whether for pay or free.

A blog is a great way to help your tribe.  When you lead with your knowledge it builds the trust with you.

I enjoy marketing and sharing my knowledge here is fun, but I hope you find it informative.  My “professional” education ended long ago but over the last 5 years I’ve taken many seminar/extra learning/online courses.

Often that knowledge is shared here.

One thing I’m in the process of creating is an Infoproduct called InfinityProduct.com to showcase how easy it is to add a profit center to your existing business without inventory.

The course to learn how to create a course has been intense and will allow for a launch at the end of the month (hopefully, cross fingers).  I’m going to be sharing more about the journey over the next couple weeks… I can’t wait for you to be able to get your hands on the product, but for now… for sure jump on the waitlist – InfinityProduct.com!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 914 – The Effort is the Success

Monday Topic: Credibility —

Quote: “Let your effort eliminate your need for excuses.”

The perfect way to stop making excuses is to actually do the work… seems obvious, right?  Well, sometimes it’s not that obvious and here’s why.

We all fall in to a trap of saying, “I’m just not good at…”  Let’s say posting consistently.

It’s “hard” to create content and keep up with it.  You know you should, yet… there you are making excuses like I had to order product, I had a customer to call, I needed to do X, Y or Z or maybe all of those.

Then someone says how much success they’ve had with their content program and you reply, “yeah, I’m just not good at creating content”

Which is actually not true.  You are good at the content, you’re not good at the habit!

You know your business better than anyone else AND you know your customers better than anyone else.

That means creating the content should be fun, exciting, and interesting.  This really isn’t a chore… the chore is the actual consistency of doing it.  Sure you may have other obligations in your life but the best way to improve at the consistency of this task is to actually do it.

It’s a lot like losing weight… it’s easier to eat the cookies than to walk the mile, right?

OR finances… it’s easier to use the credit card than it is to save up for the purchase.

Recognize the need to let your effort shine through.  This is what your tribe needs, they need your success and leadership.  But it’s hard to lead if you’re silent.

The best way to position yourself as the subject matter expert… the leader of this tribe is to lead.  The effort IS the success.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #906 – Why is November 17 important?

Monday Topic: Credibility —

Quote: “Start by doing what’s necessary; then what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible”

I was reading a blog post the other day about, “How to Become a Millionaire in 5 Years or Less.”

The title intrigued me.  And to my surprise it did not say “win the lottery” – so what did it say?

It was surprising that it didn’t say the traditional “start a business”, “save money”, etc.  That is what I expected.

What the article focused on were things such as, find a good mentor, create a vision of wealth, find clarity, focus on results instead of habits…but the one thing that caught my attention causing me to read the entire article, a couple times was…

Develop a 90 day process to measure the past and multiply the future.  This is very interesting.  I like to goal set/achieve… but the future pace is quite a concept.

Start by looking over the past quarter at your “wins” – what are the big accomplishments?  Once you establish this, HOW did they come together?

For example, if you had an increase in income… HOW did it happen…. meaning what widget sold and then HOW did you sell it?  Were you making more offers…

This may seem elementary but the goal to a million in the article mindset was to then take that previous success, focus on it and do it again.  Seems simple, right?

Why is this important? Because today is our credibility topic and your success and understanding of how you achieve that success will project into all of your areas of business, from a simple conversation with a customer to a blog post you write.

So today, even though it’s not the end of the quarter, review the last 90 days.  Go back to November 17… yep, just before Thanksgiving and write down the answers to the following…

1- What went well for you?
2- What would you identify as the top three wins?
3- What are the take-aways from the wins?
4- What in the last 90 days made you super happy?
5- Where do you need to simply STOP and do something else?

If you want to post in the comments, let’s hear it.  If you’re more comfortable writing your list on your own… that’s great too. But please do this exercise!  If you keep doing the same thing as yesterday, you’ll get yesterday today… but maybe if you target #2, #3 and #5 today you’ll get powerful results.

It’s worth a try, right?!?!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 900 – Compete with Yourself and You Will Always Win!

Monday Topic: Credibility —

Quote: “The greatest achievement is to outperform yourself.” – Denis Waitley

First… thank you!  It’s episode 900… wow!  I’m so grateful you’re here with me on this journey !

On to the blog….

It’s very tempting to compete with other people. And you might ask yourself, “what the heck who else would I compete with?”

Well… it’s important to compete with those that you are equal to in skill. I know that might sound strange because it’s always the goal to exceed your best.

HA!

And that’s the key — YOUR personal best.

One great example of this is the story of what my cousin told me about a student in her yoga class. This gal had felt defeated when she couldn’t touch her toes with her legs straight out in front of her while seated.

I mean the woman next to her, who had only been to class three times could touch her toes with ease. She felt, that with all the practice she was doing she was getting no where and she asked my cousin what she was doing wrong.

My cousin answered, “nothing… have you looked at her body, she’s got short legs, you’ve got long legs”

And that’s how simple it is to get lost in competition.

It’s important to compete so you can improve your skill for the benefit of your tribe. But never get lost in the “all about me winning” trap

It’s Monday and I take the time to talk about credibility and positioning yourself as a Subject Matter Expert… yes, this is super important. Awards are the ideal way to have social proof for your tribe.

That endorsement from a third party as “best in class” for your business is HUGE. However, there is a balance. And that balance is not to get lost in the completion of comparison.

You are successful for emphasizing your strengths and not competing with a business in your area of weakness. Focus on your strengths and improve your abilities, every day and you will win!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 894 – The Effortless Way To Increase Loyalty With Your Tribe

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Monday: Subject Matter Expert

Quote: “Leader loyalty strengthens when the relationship is based on TRUST!”

Remember back to your dating days… that time when you “put yourself out there” to meet someone to spend the rest of your life with…  maybe it worked, maybe it didn’t.

But why didn’t the date or worse yet… why didn’t the relationship work?

Most excuses come down to trust.  Think about it, if some cheated, spent money on the credit cards without you knowing… both are trust issues.

The funny thing is, as we are developing or Infinity Marketing Machine we have 5 C’s to work with – Credibility, Content, Consistency, Customers, Cash… well, the very first C and every Monday we talk about Credibility.

Credibility is your trustworthiness.  Even when we focus on your status as a Subject Matter Expert – at the base we are still focused on trust.

Your trust with your tribe.

If you have a good leader… you will follow.  If you have a bad leader… you question EVERYTHING.

When you have trust, you have loyalty.

Building trust is the effortless way to loyalty.  But that does not mean building trust is effortless.  It’s actually far from it.

To build trust you must have credibility and often one great way to do this is to receive honors and awards from third party sources.

An excellent opportunity is with your local Chamber of Commerce or your local newspaper that runs a “best of” series each year.  Get customers to vote for you or your business.

Another opportunity is with testimonials.  Now, a testimonial is a little different from a review.  They are typically more positive because you’ve asked a customer for their words.  A review… yikes… that is uncontrollable.  Hopefully good, but sometimes not.  🙂

As you get going with your Monday, think about building trust.

Look at your local paper and Chamber of Commerce and find out what awards you might apply for, and then also ask for testimonials from key customers to use in brochures or on your website.

Both ideas are fantastic avenues to great social proof!

Both are excellent resources for building trust.

And trust is the number one way to loyalty… and loyalty transforms customers to a tribe.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 889 – Why You Need Credibility Goals

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Monday: Subject Matter Expert

Quote: “Men acquire a particular quality by constantly acting in a particular way.” Aristotle

I remember attending a conference  a couple years back… and by “a couple years” I mean at least 4 years.  The crazy thing is I remember something the speaker said.

She said, “How many of you have an employee that is cranky, hostile, lazy, or just mean?”

Everyone in the room had their hand in the air in agreement.

Then she said, “… Annnnd you’re paying this person to act this way?. hummmm”

That’s how she started her presentation.

Again, how many presentations have you watched or attended and what do you remember of the sessions from at least 4 years ago?

My point is… this was a very powerful and impactful statement.

But what if YOU’RE the cranky, hostile, lazy or mean person?

What?

Yes… you now own the business and others work for you… so I’m just sayin you may still have a problem.

But it’s more than that.  Even if your not cranky or mean… what if you come to work and you are not leading.  What if you are going through the motions with a “good enough” mentality.

Now, I assume that most of you reading this are interested in your businesses because you are seeking insight for improvement… otherwise, why read blogs.

Yet… today’s quote is still here for us to read.

“Men acquire a particular quality by constantly acting in a particular way.” Aristotle

How are you acting?

The reason I mention this today is because my system of creating a tribe and offering products is kinda a “new marketing” concept.

Last week I was at a boating conference and I worked out a wholesale/drop ship relationship.  I have no idea how much I’ll sell… but if I don’t have to carry inventory or pack up stuff to mail… I’m pretty excited.

To get to that agreement, I just said, “I build a tribe and offer items to buy” so I plan to create offers.  I have no idea how much will sell weekly, but it’s not a traditional store front where people find me and buy stuff.  (although I have that function too).

Both the sales rep and his manager just looked at me.

I could tell they were processing what I just said.  “I build a tribe and offer items for them to buy”  It didn’t freak them out.  It was just new.

But my reputation and consistent behavior was the reason they said “yes”.

As you are building your Infinity Marketing Machine pay attention to credibility, our Monday topic.

Sure… you are building your tribe and they need a credible leader… but you are also building relationships with mentors, distributors and sales people.  They need to trust you as well.

Your “About Me” section on your website can be a powerful tool.  Today, take a look at it and see what needs to be updated AND what you can do to enhance it.

Set those credibility goals and get to work!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 883 – Build Trust and You’ll Eventually Be Able to Buy Gum.

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Monday: Subject Matter Expert

Quote: “Money is not cash. Cash is the lowest form of money. Money is 4 things before it becomes cash. Money is, first, credibility, credible relationships, character & competence before cash. Build these 4, money will follow.” Emeka Ojoko

The Infinity Marketing Machine is based on a 5C pillar system of Credibility, Content, Consistency, Customers, and Cash.  That’s why I’ve chosen this blog to spend each day on a different “C”.

But you know what’s fun…

When I find a quote that says something very similar… and that’s today’s topic for credibility!

Money is not cash… it’s the “THING” that makes trading two wants equal.  It would be hard to be a dancer that wants gum from the convenience store and find a store owner that appreciates a single leap enough to trade for gum.

However, if the dancer sells tickets to a performance and accepts money for the tickets, the dancer can go to the convenience store to get gum.

Normally I’d use chocolate chip cookies for my examples… but I’m trying to cut sugar out of my diet and I dislike gum.

SO… back to the quote and how it relates to our 5C system.

Money is credibility, credible relationships, character and competence.

When you build your Infinity Marketing Machine – you provide content that attracts a tribe… and you must provide that content consistently to build trust.

This trust is your action and follow through which is your relationship trust and is different from the trust you gain as a Subject Matter Expert based off your character.

But the character trust is what makes your content reliable and worth coming back again and again as you consistently build your relationship.

Eventually the customer turns to a tribe that you offer items for sale that you know they desire and BOOM…that’s when your skills and trust transforms into money that you can use to buy gum.

The dancer showcases all of her Subject Matter Expertise on a stage to an audience willing to trade money for a ticket to see her provide content they will enjoy, but the cash is just the equalizer to allow her to buy gum.  It’s the trust that brings them into the theater.

Build trust and eventually you’ll be able to buy gum.
