The Infinity Marketing Machine is based on a 5C pillar system of Credibility, Content, Consistency, Customers, and Cash.  That’s why I’ve chosen this blog to spend each day on a different “C”.

But you know what’s fun…

When I find a quote that says something very similar… and that’s today’s topic for credibility!

Money is not cash… it’s the “THING” that makes trading two wants equal.  It would be hard to be a dancer that wants gum from the convenience store and find a store owner that appreciates a single leap enough to trade for gum.

However, if the dancer sells tickets to a performance and accepts money for the tickets, the dancer can go to the convenience store to get gum.

Normally I’d use chocolate chip cookies for my examples… but I’m trying to cut sugar out of my diet and I dislike gum.

SO… back to the quote and how it relates to our 5C system.

Money is credibility, credible relationships, character and competence.

When you build your Infinity Marketing Machine – you provide content that attracts a tribe… and you must provide that content consistently to build trust.

This trust is your action and follow through which is your relationship trust and is different from the trust you gain as a Subject Matter Expert based off your character.

But the character trust is what makes your content reliable and worth coming back again and again as you consistently build your relationship.

Eventually the customer turns to a tribe that you offer items for sale that you know they desire and BOOM…that’s when your skills and trust transforms into money that you can use to buy gum.

The dancer showcases all of her Subject Matter Expertise on a stage to an audience willing to trade money for a ticket to see her provide content they will enjoy, but the cash is just the equalizer to allow her to buy gum.  It’s the trust that brings them into the theater.

Build trust and eventually you’ll be able to buy gum.

Friday night I received a, “… mentioned you” comment from Facebook.

It was from someone I don’t really talk to.  I also didn’t post anything earlier in the day… so it was odd.

I opened the comment and found a woman looking to purchase pageant banners because her normal vendor came up with a problem… she is completely stressed because the pageant is in a week.

Alright, this might seem strange so here’s the backstory.

I competed in baton twirling for 17 years.  Part of every twirling contest is a pageant category or awards that involve pageant sashes.  There are a couple social media sites I run for baton twirlers, and I also create rhinestone T shirts… well, I thought… maybe making pageant sashes would be a great way to provide a service to the baton twirling community.

Last year, I tried.  I made some for one contest… then crickets.

Until Friday.

The gal I made the sashes recommended me in the answer to the woman seeking help with her Facebook need.  Since I was tagged, I hopped on and put the link (MyAwesomeTitle.com) to the sashes I create… then about 30 minutes later, my phone did “cha ching”

We operate in a very interesting commerce era… right now.

Credibility and personal reference is more important than ever.

Lots of people listed who they used in the reply for help on Facebook…. but she chose me.

It’s just something to think about as you work to develop your online credibility and social network.  It really gives purpose to all of that work you are putting into your Infinity Marketing Machine!

You are creating content but this is all about creating a connection.  And it was the mutual connection that got me the order.

Can you be a Subject Matter Expert for a Bakery?  Maybe.

There are lots and lots of different types of bakeries.  Off the top of my head there’s the bakery at a restaurant, the bakery in the grocery store, a mass bakery that send cookies across the country, the bakery that creates wedding cakes, and a cupcake store.

They all create baked goods.

So… my original question, can you be a Subject Matter Expert for a Bakery?  I argue that you can but not as a whole for the entire industry, but for a specialty… yes. Absolutely.

If your bakery does not serve pie, you cannot be a Subject Matter Expert of pies, however, if you have won an award for a cupcake flavor or cake design, you are an expert.

Someone outside of the industry has recognized you.

Even without the awards your secret power is hidden in one aspect or specialty of your business.

so… yes, everyone can be a Subject Matter Expert and the beauty of this entire discussion is that the internet is so large AND easy to access that there’s a niche for you.

You just must be willing to do it.

If you feel overwhelmed by saying your an expert at the bakery… try being an expert at creating woven crusts on pies… or two toned frosting for cupcakes… or, you get my point.

In your industry there is a need for your expertise – this is what you need to communicate and it will attract your tribe.

Today, take 10 minutes, use a brainstorm session, and explore each of your profit centers… ask, “what do I do really well?”

You don’t have to reveal your “secret sauce” but there is a process or procedure that is unique to you, emphasize this and attract your ideal customers that also understand the importance of this process/innovation.

It’s an excellent way to find your Unique Selling Point or Unique Selling Proposition.

Now, actually do this… it’s very easy to read and think, yeah…that’s a good idea.  But pick up your phone, set a 10 minute timer… or just yell at siri and ask her to set a timer… start brainstorming!

Yesterday was a first!  It’s taken about a year… but I had a goal.  By the end of the year I would record my first information video.

This doesn’t seem like a tough task… but somehow, despite what I teach here, I personally went through every excuse imaginable.

The fun of the video was that pressing record was super duper difficult… the first time.  But the next time it was no big deal.

I’m not kidding.

But getting to December 29 went like this… I’m too busy… I don’t know what to talk about… My hair is grown out and showing gray… I look tired… I don’t have a good enough camera… the lighting is awful… I don’t have a nice back drop…

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

OMG.

Yesterday I actually exhausted every excuse I possibly could come up with SINCE MARCH.

So there I sat, new computer, new light, newly painted backdrop with desk as a prop, new microphone, free recording program, hair that’s “sorta” not gray… and I pressed record.

I have spent the last week intensely developing SOMETHING to talk about.

So I hit record and simply started.

Eight minutes later – and it wasn’t awful.  I’m recovering from a super nasty cold… so it’s a little nasal sounding…

I’ll end up re-recording it – but I did it!  And honestly, who the heck thought eight minutes of talking to myself in a room with a camera could actually feel normal. But it did.

And so it begins.

With a challenge.  As we quickly approach 2020 – what are you going to start sharing?  Sometimes writing is easier than video… but I want you to sit down TODAY (since 2020 is really coming quick) – but sit down and answer this question on a piece of paper.

QUESTION TO ANSWER:  “If you were asked to present for 10 minutes about a work-related topic, what would you speak about?”

This answer makes you a subject matter expert!

NOW go press record.

So who is the star of the show?  Clearly it’s Monday so it’s “Subject Matter Expert Day”… so you think it’s you, right?

UM, it might be…

But the purpose of positioning yourself as a Subject Matter Expert is to allow others to gain trust in your background making you more credible.

For example, I can tell you to use the 5 pillars of the Infinity Marketing Machine, “Credibly, Content, Consistency, Customers, and Cash” and leave it at that… but if I say, I sent out one email and generated $1,800 in sales in two hours… or if I said that a week ago I sent out two emails in 4 days and generated $17,000 in sales, that makes your ears perk up…

However, that doesn’t make me the star.

YOU are the star… (in this case).

What do I mean?

I mean make your customer the star.  In a WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) world you’ve people only care about how something effects them.

That means my above examples are only good in that YOU want to achieve these types of results… right?!?!?

Yep.

Now, it’s the Christmas season so here’s a little real world present for you.  And I think it’s fun!

Let’s jump back to your tribe member as the “star” in the context of making them a Subject Matter Expert.

What?

How on earth do you do that?

It’s super simple… You can do it by elevating their status.

Everyone loves a loyalty card, VIP group, or even a certificate.  These distinctions in your tribe will give others something to strive for…  And at times it will give them the opportunity to list it on their “resume” as a Subject Matter Expert.

How?

Have you ever attended a conference and paid for VIP access?

Well.. often as such there is an photo opportunity… depending on circumstances, this can be hung in their office, store, or even displayed on their website.

 

I had the opportunity to meet Gary Vaynerchuk at a VIP event.  And in return I got a photo.

Another way to help your tribe with their credibility and increase yours is to have a certificate… It doesn’t have to be a complicated process.

Here’s how I used this process… I created a “Clean Boater Pledge” program. If you’re a boater – make sure to take the pledge.

It’s a simple “yes” checkbox and when you’re done it emails you a digital certificate to print and display.

But what this does is adds to their credibility!  People that love boating and want to spread the word pledge to environmentally sound boating practices.

My brand PontoonGirl.com has an “army” of followers to help in our mission.  The followers are elevated, and the brand is strengthened.

So as we head into this week of holiday madness, think of how to make the tribe that follows you, “stars”.

At first it might seem like a strange way to build your credibility by making someone else the “star” but creating a way to elevate a tribe member status is a wonderful way to build loyalty and increase your subject matter expertise.

When you get to basics you’ve got to start with a strong foundation.  The basics of the Infinity Marketing Machine are the 5 C’s.  Credibility, Content, Consistency, Customers & Cash.

The basic of credibility is your own confidence.

Today’s quote is about inner strength and how it projects to your outer foundation… meaning the confidence you project.

I was talking with a family friend that has coached his favorite sport for a long LONG time.  I mentioned that he should start a hockey camp… he had many excuses as to why others were more qualified.

Now it made me laugh.

There is a place for EVERYONE.

When you have expertise, it’s selfish to keep it to yourself.  Really it is.

There will always be someone better than you, more experienced than you, and has more awards.

But you know what… the person in front of you is not looking for THAT person, they are in front of you for some reason.  You attracted them. They were drawn to you.

It’s your job to have confidence in your message and share it.

As for that lack of confidence moment… OH yes, I have it too.  I know what I’m saying is accurate and useful, but I also watch the “big names” and think, why would someone listen to me.

Yet, here you are.  Reading my message.  For some reason you were brought in front of me and for that I’m grateful.

Today.  Stop.  And appreciate what you’ve done.

I’m serious.

We’re in the middle of the 4th quarter crunch.  There’s time to make last minute gains and a push to the New Year.

But look back (at least for a quick moment)

This will help you in HUGE ways.  When you’re talking to customers, and by talking I mean writing an email or speaking in person… maybe I should say “communicating”.

When you are communicating with your customers, the confidence you have will give an automatic boost to your credibility.

But to gain that confidence you must stop and recognize all that you have done.

It’s so easy to say “yep I hit a sales goal” or “Yep, I won that award” but the goal or the award are the capstone of an entire journey.

My cousin opened a yoga studio, of her own.  I mean she actually bought her own building.  She’s been teaching yoga for almost a decade, so she has a following… but she took a leap, remodeled a building, hosts events, and has students that respect and pay her!

Last weekend she had a special event with a guest teacher and packed room.  I said, look at just how much you’ve accomplished to get to today.   All the training, practice, mentoring you’ve done.

It’s not that she opened a studio, but she’s changed lives.

She was busy focusing on the next thing coming up (class in two hours) but just like her… you need to stop and appreciate where you’re at, right now.

The credibility you share with your tribe is not just in the words you say, awards you’ve won, but it’s in your actual day to day actions.  Your actions right now are only possible from all the hard work you did to just before reading this!

Congratulations.
