Today’s quote is fun because the result might not always be the same… this is a mind bender that will make you think.

I consistently talk about the need to be consistent when providing your customers with content.  You need to create a bond and this is done by showing up regularly in their email box or in their newsfeed.

It’s no different from the concept of dating someone.  You need to show up regularly to build trust… I mean, imagine if you went out on a great date, got a phone call the next day… then nothing for 3 days… then a call to go out, you go out, get a phone call, another phone call then nothing or 5 days… you’d be left wondering, “what the heck?”

The consistency for content creation works the same.  You need to show up every day.

However… if we look at our quote, “Doing today what you did yesterday will make tomorrow the same as today” – does it?

If you create content today and yesterday and tomorrow, you’re consistent – BUT your bond is getting stronger and stronger!

So BOOM – it’s not the same.  It’s like cutting calories yesterday, today, and tomorrow… you’ll lose weight… the consistency of the act doesn’t make the result the same!

If you want a different result you have to be consistent.  And that’s the mind twister!  Normally if you want the same result you need to do the same thing over and over and over… but if you want a different result you also do the same thing over and over and over — it’s just the “thing” is different!

What am I trying to say?  Create content.  Do it consistently.  You will get great results and build your loyalty.  🙂

When should I post?

Have you ever asked this question?  You search and ponder, you may even go through statistics to narrow down the best time…

But guess what?

The time of day is not nearly as important as what it is you post!

Quit stressing about the technology.  If you want to make an impact you need to post — and when you post you need to think about what and how you are posting.  Not where and when.

After all, and excuse my language, but if you’re creating crap does it matter what time you post?  Yeah… probably not!

Knowing this, what type of content do you create?  Things that appeal to your customers.

Like our quote says… sociology and psychology make all the difference.  The simplest way to narrow it down is to communicate like you do with your friends.

When you evoke emotions, ask questions, and show photos that draw you in… you are creating valuable and relatable content.  The other thing to consider is that you choose words that are conversational — don’t say it has 10 rhinestones or has a down filling — say it’s sparklie or fluffy.  Evoke the emotion!

There are many other advantages of psychology in your posts – but for now – start with emotions and don’t worry about the time of day you post!

Yesterday I wrote about the need to start.  To just get out here and “do” — it’s important to come up with the ideas… AND it’s important to start.

However…

What happens between “start” and “do” is a whole lot of “what”

Shortly after the excitement of your blog or vlog starts your realize… OMG this is a whole lot of content and I have no idea how I’m going to keep up.

This is where the “Plan it” part of today’s quote becomes super duper important.

Last week I talked about your “Programming” and to develop a weekly schedule where each day highlights a different umbrella topic.

Yet you still have issues getting your content done… and we could be referring to your social media posts!

If it feels like you’re constantly writing or creating or posting – how do you get away from this slow death by content creation?

You learn to set aside once a week or once a month to PLAN.

At this time you grab a calendar, you put topics on the calendar, and you write – you plow through it and get everything or the week or month done all at one time.

This way you can see what’s coming at you.  Surprisingly, you have a better chance of remembering special events, “national days of”, and budgeting for holiday sales.  When you use a content calendar and I mean USE the calendar – you free your time up to enjoy the process of content creation.

So…. today’s goal is to get a calendar and plan your posts for the next week. This includes writing the posts, right now, all at one time.

It’s time to plan!  GO.

How much stuff do you have?  Me… I’ve got a whole bunch.  I think I just need to stop and take everything outside, and if it doesn’t bring me joy, throw it out.

Did you get it?  Bring me joy – if you’ve watched the internet you’ve probably seen the gal that folds clothes and gets them to fit in tiny little boxes.  Well, she decides if something brings her joy – if it doesn’t she get’s rid of it.

A… She’s teeny tiny so her clothes have an advantage at folding into the super small box
2… Clearly she’s not from a northern climate because there’s no way a wool sweater is fitting in the tiny box, and honestly, the wool sweater brings me warmth, not joy, although I am happy that I’m not cold, but flip flops bring me true joy… except that they have no use in the winter… yet I need both.

Which brings me full circle to “I have a whole bunch of stuff”.

Your content is a bit like my flip flops and sweater.  They both have a practical purpose.  One keeps me warm, one protects my feet… but if you wear at the same time you’d look really strange and be either too hot or too cold… you need balance.

So how do you balance content and prevent “stuff”.

You need a plan!

This is critical and it will help focus you.  You need to figure out what is most important to your followers…. what do they want to know about, what do they NEED to know about?

In the case of this blog I use my 5 C’s of the Infinity Marketing Machine that transforms “one and done” into “infinity”  They are: credibility, content, consistency, customers, and cash.  Each day has a different topic with a few few others…

This is a strategy that works – you can do this too!

Whether you post in a blog or simply use social media, creating your strategy will help BOTH your content and consistency.

Today – make your strategy… don’t get too hung up on the details, just make a decision… you can tweak it later.

Do you ever feel like no one understands you… or that maybe you’re worried when you create your blog posts that you’ll “miss the mark”?

Don’t worry about it.

Remember… when you are creating your gift of content your goal is to build trust.  The way to build trust is to speak directly to the people you WANT to attract.

When you speak to everyone you speak to no one.  Think about it… if a political candidate speaks to “everyone” they’re not remembered, but those that pick a “controversial” stance will be remembered.

The same goes for your tribe.

For example sometimes when you speak to your tribe, you speak to just your insiders and the content is ONLY for the people that “know” the tribe secrets.

Here’s how I came to realize this trick.  Apparently in 1964 Ford came out with the Mustang.  It started a trend of small, spots cars that became a category, the pony car.

Well, of course they’re called pony cars, the Ford Mustang got it all rolling, and a Mustang is a horse.  Except, when it isn’t.

Get this…

The Ford Mustang was actually named after the P-51 fighter bomber that made it’s debut in the US Army Air Corp (US Air Force) in 1940.

Alrightie… What does that have to do with something that is just for the tribe?  Well, have you ever looked at the flight tracker during an airline flight?  The speed will be converted to “ground speed” for you.

Again… what does this have to do with Tribe Building?

In the rented 2019 Mustang convertible we drove on our last trip to Florida, my member of the Mustang tribe (the husband), suddenly started laughing.  I asked him what it was and, grinning, he pointed at the speedometer which was displaying our “ground speed.”

It was that moment when you wonder if you should actually ask, “What?” or just leave your husband be in his “happy place”.

So I played and said, “What??”.

I was confused of course, because I’m not a member of the tribe and that message was for him, not me.  He then gave me the “five minute” explanation… on and on… for the next half hour.

Insert voice of The Peanuts teacher…

BTW… the top was down, it was warm and sunny, and I earned a great blog post topic to share with you!

Are you using your blog, emails, and posts as opportunities to teach your customers?  How about teaching them to grow?

Creating content is important for bonding with your tribe.  But this does not

If you teach them that every Tuesday you have a sale for 50% off… you will affect full price sales.  You actually teach them to only pay a discount.

But if you teach them every Tuesday you have a DIY or “How To” tip you teach them value.   They will bond with your brand, but instead of being viewed as a “bargain hunter” site you become a go-to for useful information.

Both pieces of content are consistent.  They both come out on Tuesday – but one teaches to not pay full price and wait for the guaranteed discount, while the other teaches VALUE and shows you are invested in their growth.

This is how you bond with your tribe.

Create content that is valuable to your customers personal development by educating them and fostering their growth!

You will become valuable part of their week and that’s a high compliment.

Give this technique a try with your content creation.

Yesterday I started my interview season… and it got me thinking about consistency, more specific what does consistency mean.

A great way to conduct an interview is to keep a list of questions and ask each candidate the same questions.  It helps you develop a baseline from which to compare their compatibility and find the best rise to the top.

Well… while the questions are the same, and you get the general topics covered.  That is where consistency ends.  The answers change the course of the interview wildly.

And the same happens when you provide content to your audience.

Let’s use today’s quote as your guide.  Let’s say I ask, what does the quote“If you are consistent, you will get results.” mean to you?

You will answer in a different way than I would answer.

So while the question is consistent, the answers will go all over the map.  That’s the fun of consistency in content.

This is why you need a content plan!

The content plan keeps you on track.  Think of content like buckets.  Buckets that you an fill with articles or posts.  For example I use the 5 buckets… credibility, content, consistency, customers, and cash — Each day has a topic and I write within the topic.

This consistency helps you as a reader to anticipate what “tomorrow” will bring… it’s comfortable.  It’s a surprise as to “what” the post will be, but you have comfort in understanding “why” the information is provided!

Stop and do this.

Make your broad topics.  Select 3 to 6 buckets that you know you can fill and then all you have to do is fill them!

SO make it your goal for today to pick your buckets!
