ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode #508 – Act While Your Mind is Stretched!

“A mind that is stretched by a new idea can never go back to its original dimensions.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

Have you ever been to a super, amazing, fantastic conference?  I sure hope so.  Attending conferences helps you keep on top of your industry OR keep on top of yourself for personal development skills.

But have you ever been to a conference and thought it was great, but can’t remember one thing?

Two tips: keep one notebook at the conference.  In the front make a list 1 to …  flip ahead a couple pages, write the date and presenters name on top… then take notes.  If something super amazing is said… write it on your list at the front of your note book!  This book will be come a great tool in the coming months… (FYI, I just used three of these notebooks for conferences I’ve attended over the last 18 months!)

Next tip:  Right after the conference ends… take one hour (or an entire flight) depending on your time allotment.   And brainstorm ALL of the things you learned and how you can implement them… just free thought!  Use your list from the front of your note book.  Now… make another list of the things you will implement AND do the top three within one week.  (at least start their implementation).

That’s how you can really take some amazing ideas from conference and put them to work for you!

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode 503 – Success or Hesitation, the Choice is Yours!

“Talent alone won’t make you a success.  Neither will being in the right place at the right time, unless you are ready.  The most important question is: ‘Are you ready?'” Johnny Carson

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

So are you ready?

I think you’re reading my blog because you are ready.  You may not feel ready. But you are…

Here’s how I came to that conclusion.

You somehow found me… probably because you were looking to improve your social media presence for your business.  And it’s because you were looking for a better way that you are the type of person who takes control and is… ready!

This makes all the difference in your success because when you’re ready to take action and that opportunity comes along you can act right then and there.

If you’re not ready… and that big opportunity comes along you look for an excuse as to why it won’t work.  Silly as that sounds.  You sabotage yourself with negative thoughts and non-actions.

We’re all familiar with the action.  It’s the action of “NO ACTION” otherwise known as hesitation that kills dreams.

Make sense? When you are “not ready” you hesitate.  So today, look for opportunities, but more important, be ready.  Decide right now that you are ready to take actions.

NO more hesitating – you came here for a reason… that reason is to succeed!  You can only succeed when you take action.

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode 497 – Making Life Less Suck!

“It’s all about finding the calm in Chaos.” – Donna Karan

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

Happy Halloween!  I decided not to go with a “spooky” inspiration and instead focus on the chaos… well the calm in the chaos!

That should give you a little insight into my past couple days.  🙂

I launched a new site and it’s been pretty successful.  What I’m doing is “testing” the processes I’m looking forward to teaching all of you.  It’s one thing to teach theory… but I’m not big into that.

I prefer results.

But… the path to results is often messy.  ANNNND that sums up my past week.

When you have that “chicken/egg” feeling and everything seems like it needs to be done before everything else can be done… my advice.  Pick something.  And just go!

SO I did.

It’s sucked… but I have a firm grasp of what it’s like to be the student in my own world and now I can make it “less suck”  hahaha

Stay tuned!

And by all means… KEEP GOING!

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode 491 – Another 10 Minutes?

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… Including you.” – Anne Lamott

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

When you’re tired, cranky, or just blank.  Unplug!

Yes, unplug.

Last week we talked about the 10 minute meditation.  How about this week we just talk about a 10 minute walk.  Get up, leave your phone at your desk.  (Or go airplane mode) and just walk.   Walk to your car.  Walk down the hall.  Just do something to change your location.

OH if you have palm trees in your location… please go have a “Rox-break” and look at the palm trees for me!  I know half of my relaxation in staring at palm trees comes from just being on vacation, but we’re a team here… so unplug and do palm trees.

I do have to say – today’s inspiration is great!  Just like when your computer, cable box, or other device “doesn’t work” and yet you unplug and plug back in… it works. You too can unplug for a few minutes and find that a mini-reboot is just the thing you need!

Here are even more ideas to help you motivate yourself.

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode 485 – Got 10 Minutes?

“The inspiration you seek is already within you. Be silent and listen.”

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

Have you ever gotten really silent and just listened to you?  It’s harder than you think.  but give it a shot.  Meditation can do wonders to focus you…

People that practice yoga have a good idea of balance but if you’re not going to find yourself in a series of stretches and poses.  Give yourself 10 minutes of stop.

Sit silently and breathe in and out.  Set the timer on your iphone but then shut off the network connection.  See if you can make 10 minutes.  Breathe in for 5 seconds, breath out and count 5 seconds.  If you want to close your eyes, that’s cool.

But do it.

Give yourself 10 minutes to completely unplug and just give yourself calm.

It’s a great way to feel refreshed and like today’s inspiration says, you’ll find the inspiration inside you!  It might surprise you that you’ll come up with ideas and make decisions you never realized possible!

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode #479 – Out of the Fire.

“For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned.” Benjamin Franklin

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

I’m back to Ben!  I found this inspiration and thought… it’s a must share.  It’s amazing how awesome Benjamin Franklin’s advice is and how it’s stood the test of time.  I hope 300 years from now I’ll be remembered for saying something brilliant. 🙂

OK, if you ever have that feeling where you’re completely overwhelmed, you know the feeling, you’re angry, short tempered, and you can’t figure out what to do.  Well, when this happens (again), just stop.

Take a deep breath.

My favorite way to organize is to start chunking down the big problem. The only way to do this is with a clear mind.  I know, I know… this seems obvious, but you’re reading this and you’re not in the middle of big unorganized out of control mess.

Annnnnnd that makes this the perfect time to talk about this!

At the marina we do fire/emergency response training.  We practice “what we would do” in the event something happens.  Why?  Well, when you have a fully engulfed fire in front of you that is NOT the time to practice… that’s “go” time.  Same thing happens when you’re super stressed out and overwhelmed. That’s not the time to practice what you would do… you’re in “go” time

So take my silly little piece of advice:  Overwhelmed = stop and breathe.  You’ve got to break your pattern so you can figure out your new path to success.

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode 473 – How Do You Achieve Success?

“A good system shortens the road to the goal.” -Orison Swett Marden

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

What’s your system?  I’m referring to getting or staying organized.  What is your system?

Do you have a planner, do you have post it notes, is it all in your brain?

Back up one step and ask, why do you have the planner, notes, or stuff in your brain… it must be centered around a goal.  You’ve gotta get a goal!

If you have a day where you feel like you got absolutely nothing done except a lot of busy tasks… then you started your day without having a goal!

When you wake up in the morning, try this… set a goal for which your day will be measured.  The ultimate goal…. if you accomplish this _______ your day will be a success.

Just to brag a little.  Yesterday, I work up and decided three things that needed to get accomplished and my day would be a success.  BINGO! It was a success.

It’s a good feeling.

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode 467 – Make a Change!

Reset. Readjust. Restart. Refocus. As many times as you need to…

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

The all important question… when to cut bait.  Well, some might say when to cut your losses, but I’m from the marina industry – we relate everything to the waters!

I’m not sure when is as important as actually doing it.

Think about playing a slot machine.  You’ve put quarter after quarter in the machine… and nothing.  But that next time, that next time… that’s the one… that could hit big.

It doesn’t.

When do you get up from your chair?

This is why I say, “when” isn’t as important as actually taking action.

Just like today’s inspiration says, “Reset. Readjust. Restart. Refocus. As many times as you need to…”

AS MANY TIMES AS YOU NEED TO!

Don’t be afraid of changing your course too soon… or that someone will think “bad” of you… just do it.  If something is not working, make a change.

BTW:  You might notice some things are changing on this blog and on my website.  They are getting a little makeover this week. (I got bored… and now I’ve gotten creative)

ProfitCenterCoach.com – E461 – Quit Living in an Echo Chamber

“Speak Freely”

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

Yesterday I shared the power of Storytelling.  So using my own advice, let me share a story from a trip to DC!

“It’s OK, speak freely” said the retail clerk at the train station.  Instantly a huge wave of relief came over me.

Washington DC is an amazing city.  If you get the opportunity to visit, it’s a “must see” bucket list destination.  The monuments look just like they do on TV!  haha.

Seriously!

Have you ever had that experience of seeing a picture of a landmark “over and over”, for example, the Eiffel Tower or Central Park, and then you visit and think WOW it’s just like in the movies!

Side note: the Eiffel Tower was MUCH bigger than I thought it would be. I’m not sure why I thought it would be small, but it’s really really big, something to stay awake for!

My other observation is that Central Park is full of hills!  You know when you see the crime show and they find the body in Central Park, it’s always in a flat area… yeah, that’s total fiction, the park is all hills! Some are really big, too!

OK back to the train station.  Back in 2010 I was buying Benjamin Franklin’s “Common Sense” it’s a small pamphlet written in the 1700s.  I thumbed through it and knew I had to buy it.  You should read it.  I was amazed the words are as relevant today as when it was written nearly 300 years ago.

The gal took my credit card and made a comment about the book, and I started to answer, then I caught my tongue.  She looked at me and said, “speak freely”.

It was refreshing.  Not just that it was OK to give an opinion but that she wanted to hear the opinion.

I think we have forgotten this skill.

Please. Speak Freely.

PS:  don’t worry that if you share your opinion that you’ll lose a sale and go out of business.  People will disagree with you!  It’s OK.  This ties in to building a tribe of people that know and like you.  Let’s not be disrespectful. Please listen with your ears, not your mouth.  If you shout someone down you’ll find yourself isolated in an echo chamber.  Our goal with the Infinity Marketing machine is to attract people that like us, that’s totally different from attracting people like us.

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode 455 – How to be a Beginner and Expert at the Same Time!

“Fake it till you make it”

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

It’s OK to be a beginner… in certain areas.  It’s also OK to “Fake it till you make it” – in certain areas.

Let’s explore.

Check out the photo I selected for today’s inspiration.  It’s a beautiful bouquet of wooden tulips.  Now… if you a gift shop with a spring display and have the wooden tulips, brilliant!  They won’t die.  However, if you’re a florist and you try to “fake it till you make it” with the wooden tulips… that’s just strange!

You are an expert in your business. You can’t fake that.  However, you might be a beginner at the social media thing… and that’s OK to “fake” – jump in, write a post, analyze what works, and do it again.  Learning on the job is OK!  This is the perfect time to “fake it till you make it.”
