How clever are you?  Well… here’s a great post that really shows some creativity.  It’s the type of post we regularly talk about – something that gabs attention and suits a purpose without saying “here’s the purpose of this post”

Look at it!

This is a brain teaser that each student was given to learn more about their new teacher…  and the teacher shared it on her Instagram.  The cool thing is this… if you were a teacher it’s a great “pop up” on your feed that will make you think… “I can do this” – but if you’re not a teacher – it’s fun to figure out how many siblings she has, how many miles she’s biked… etc.

You really learn about the teacher without reading, “I am 27 years old and enjoyed 12th grade…. blah blah blah”

Excellent teacher.

Posts should engage and draw you in… just like this!  Don’t be afraid to get creative.

This dance studio has a store.  They sell more than dance essentials, like shoes or leotards.  Their style is trendy.  And they love pink!  Well pink is actually the branded color of the studio.

We learned all of this from their post.

AND that’s not even the main point of their post… the post is to let you know that this super cute product that was picked out just for their tribe has arrived and to hurry!

When you’re looking for a great post idea – look beyond a typical product post — use the post as your opportunity to support and strengthen your bond with your tribe.

Because today is “Big Money Small Change Day” and I’m here to prove a point. (get it)

Share your personality!

The one thing that’s the hardest point (haha) to get across to people when they start their Infinity Marketing Machine… especially when they are “old school” meaning they grew up loving anything John Hughes… the hardest point in your writing is to share your personality.

I’m not kidding (well I am, see… I’m a smart alec)

But my point (again.. haha) is that you need to share your personality through your posts and writing. This is difficult for those that did graduate in the 80s because we were taught to write within strict parameters.

In fact, we did not have fun.

I like to write with… (dot dot dots) and USE ALL CAPS – I even make up words.  But this is my personality.  If you love the 80s, and have zany personality with puns, etc… then follow me — because this is your tribe.

NOW… outside of actually telling you to follow me — you should feel comfortable reading someone else’s post and think… yeah that person is pretty cool… I think I “get” them.

And this is what spurred my magical post…

GET IT?  There are LOTS of yoga studios.  Depending on your style, you could be earthy, trendy, retro, intense, peaceful… but there is a studio for you that matches you.

I was flipping through my posts on Instagram and this video of this ornery “cat” caught my attention.  The “kitty” looks angry… then it strikes at the camera.

The caption is perfect.

IF you “get” this post – you want to do yoga with her… You want to be a part of her tribe.  I don’t do yoga but I totally understand her!

This is the easiest way to attract your tribe — be yourself in your posts, show your personality and if you’re a grouchy kitty — embrace it!

Look at this post…

What a great way to use a special event, the photo shoot, to give your customers a unique view of HOW the photo is created.

Everyone has bought pizza.   But rarely do you think about the photo shoot and it gives you a great way to see the product in a whole new light – pun intended!

Will it translate into sale…

It’s a cool way to say “hey look at our product” without saying “buy buy buy”

It’s also very inexpensive to do this marketing tip.  Just remember that people love a sneak peek!  Give them what they want.

Yesterday I ended my day by balancing our cash register.  I found a penny from 1954.   I started my day on a tour of our local Amazon Fulfillment center… fascinated by the robots.

OK… let me get this out of my system

Robots are freekin cool.

OMG.  If you’ve ever thought about automating your business – then visiting a company tour where they’ve done this is like an amusement park for your mind.

The products come in the door, there are plenty of humans to support the robots — but dang.  They just keep going – I kind expected the Energizer Bunny to pop from around the corner banging that drum!

He did not… but here’s the deal.

The tour was great.

I saw the future… here now.

I saw the possibilities of how to make the future happen now.

AND I also got a photo and water bottle.

My cousin invited me to go on this tour… I joked, the last tour we went on together was in 2nd grade.  Our elementary school was 2 blocks from Tonka Toys… every child received a cute doonbuggy for visiting.

Amazon had awesome water bottles!

OK – not that that’s the reason to visit or even have a tour.

But they built this facility as a showcase for the tour.  Here’s why it’s important for you to learn from Amazon on our Big Money Small Change Day… the first stop on the tour was a hallway.  It was outside a class room.

That’s when the tour guide, Tony, told us about the education benefit for being an Amazon employee… it’s VERY good. Then he told us about the maternity benefit… it also is VERY good.

WHY do they do this?

Because they love their company and those on a tour are potential employees.

The tour is your showcase of your business.

When the tour ended we learned an interesting historical reference and symbolic tribute to the founder that is in every building.  It was cool.

Then we went downstairs and they had a photo booth set up.  This how they encouraged social sharing.

Why?

Because cameras are NOT allowed on the tour.  Yet… they did not miss out on this important social opportunity.

Now… you are not Amazon, so what can you learn from this?

Showcase your business.  You can showcase it online.  Share your history.  Share your future.  Share a gift… and by all means include a way to share it on social media.

There’s something to the “everyone gets a trophy” philosophy.  People just love to be recognized.  Now the fall out might be that there are so many trophies that they begin to mean nothing.

However…

Sometimes the surprise recognition means a lot!

Earlier I was scrolling through my Instagram and came across this post…

 

These two girls are national champions in their own right.  But those “pieces of paper” mean more than the trophies that are waist high!  The pieces of paper show they participated in their world championships.

YES.

They did not make it on the medal stand, but they did get the recognition of participation.

Sometimes that means a whole bunch!  Those certificates will be framed and displayed right along side some very impressive medals in their rooms at home.

Well… how can you utilize this type of marketing?

Is there anything you do that is a “first” for customers… I like to think at our marina it might be a “first boat ride” or a “first visit to Lake Minnetonka” or maybe a special anniversary or birthday…

It’s a simple paper certificate – but the meaning behind it is picture worthy and even postable!  It’s inexpensive but can have a very big impact.

Figure out how YOU can do this at your business… I mean if Disney World hands out “first visit” buttons – it must be a good idea… right?

Ahhhh Good Morning!  I know… I broke my consistency rule.  Typically this post comes out 3 hours earlier.

Normally I write the post the evening before – but last night I was in an incredibly distracted — OK not good mood.  NOTHING good would have come from writing, so I went to bed.

Sometimes you need to evaluate your mood and if it breaks consistency – it breaks consistency.

That being said, I woke up refreshed and found a “Cash” topic right away…

Look at this great example from the Chamber of Commerce in Wisconsin…  It had this beautiful gazebo with flowers.  It looks so pretty.

The caption is great and invites you to visit the area!

Then I noticed something cool.

Below the photo are blue dots indicating more photos – so I swiped.

The next photo is also from the town — but it’s a chalk message from the sidewalk from a group that celebrated “girls weekend”

I thought, “how cool is this?”

The first photo shows how beautiful the town is — the second photo suggests a reason to visit…

Then I swiped again.

There were more photos!

I got to this one that showed a sidewalk sign for a sale at a store!

Amazing!

They were able to show that there are cute stores without being all “bargain bargain bargain” salesy!  Is “salesy” a word?  It is now!

I guess what I’m saying is that this post is one that tells a story of the product, in this case the chamber’s product is the town… it does it through photos…

Think about this as you promote your business.

Use the one sentence to plant the seed “what plans are you making this weekend?” a photo to stop their attention – then back up the question with photo suggestions of how the customer can answer the question!
