There is one thing that has always surprised me… that’s when people are excited to have a “snow day”. Sure it’s fun to have time off.

But I’m speaking of “snow days” from school. OR you’re excited when the teacher lets you out early.

This baffles me.

You spend money for a class and then are thrilled when you don’t have to go! What kind of mindset is that? Its like paying for a dinner and being thrilled when they don’t bring dessert that you paid for… or you ordered a large popcorn and got a small.

You paid for it, you should be excited to get the full thing.

OK, enough of my rant, but I saw this post and thought to myself…

FINALLY SOMEONE THAT UNDERSTANDS IT.

 

Start looking at snow days as your time to get ahead! It’s like a catch up day or even a day you can work on the creative things you’ve been putting off. But it’s a great time, not to lay around and binge on Netflix… but you can make more money!

Look at the post. They are closed YET they thought ahead and said, let’s use this snow (lemon) and make lemonade snow (not yellow snow, that’s gross… but I knew you were thinking it!) haha

Alright, but look at the possibilities.

Many other people are taking their snow day to hang out, stuck with down time, and you know down time is occupied by surfing time… so why not go a step further and have your snow-day file! Come up with a GOOD promotion, like a BIG discount on crap you want to get rid of and clearance it out… shoot out an email to your list, put the post up, take out an ad and run a flash sale.

If it’s snowing where you are but your customer is in the sun… it’s OK. Maybe they’ll feel bad for you.

PS: I’ve got a whole weekend of potential snow days so I’ll try this and let you know what happens!

If you missed yesterdays post – make sure to check it out… I started out by stating I was too excited to wait until today to post.

It focused on creating partnerships with your vendors to multiply your audience.  The example was a florist with Valentines Day flowers who’s post appeared on a cake bakers page.

With that in mind, let’s look at today’s inspiration: “Push harder than yesterday if you want a different tomorrow.” – that means if we look at yesterday’s idea and try it ourselves tomorrow is going to show the effect…

Well, I was going through my feed again and found this cute post.

The Albuquerque Police Department helped the Hospital system with a message about warding off heart disease.

What a smart move!

The mounted horses are such a visual presence and in this capacity make you stop and take notice of the post.  Using the police in a “softer” message creating the silhouette of a heart with their hands again makes you take note.

But for our learning purposes, the “big money small change” advantage is a “level up” from yesterday’s lesson.  Today, the hospital system, crafted a message utilizing the police department.  It’s visual, simple, and builds goodwill for the police, creates subject matter expertise for the hospital.

But ultimately, gets the important message of healthy hearts to our attention.

I received TWO emails today letting me know it’s pet dental month.  Ironically, I read these after I gave my dog a dental treat.

The funny thing is that it spurred me to action for my “Big Money Small Change” topic.

My topic has a twist.  The obvious topic is to utilize the “Of the Month” topics for your promotion, special, or post.  It’s a great way to generate ideas and turn your marketing into a party.

But I said my topic for today will have a twist… here it is.

This is a screen shot of what popped up in my email box.  It looks like a great “blurb” “sneak preview” or “short cut” to see what the message actually is all about

But read it.  It’s like a four line classified ad (that shows how old I am) – but look at line four… Flea and tick sale/rebates?  That’s a little confusing.  I thought it was pet dental month.

So here’s your twist.  Double check your email before it’s sent.  You need to send yourself a sample so you can check all aspects.  NOW guess what… I’m guilty of this, and that might be why I’m sensitive to this error.

We used to use email “magic” and type our 4 line classified info into the very top of the email and hide it in the text color of the background, typically white.  Now, you can select these preview sentences.

So that’s twist one, double check.

Twist two… don’t mix messages.  Again… something I’m terribly guilty of.  I am old school with bad habits.  One habit is to put more than one topic in a message… DON’T!  It’s lazy… either lazy that you didn’t sort your people OR lazy in not creating a unique message for different segments of your email.

Back to the normal “of the month”

The cool thing with this email is that they used an infographic – I guess that may be a “twist” but I included the screen shot because, well, if you have a dog, the message is important and interesting!

So your turn to 1) double check before you send… 2) craft only one topic per message and 3) use your “of the month” resources!

Do you have the best intentions, but can’t find the time?  It’s like when you have an amazing idea, you think it will be great, but then “poof” the time passes.

For example, I have a brilliant idea for the Christmas holiday shopping season and next thing you know, it’s December 23rd…

OR

You want to do a welcome to summer event, and the ice doesn’t go off the lake till early May (not that I’m still bitter about that happening last year)

Here’s the deal.  You can make most things happen.  But you need a plan.  And that starts with old fashion paper and a pen.  Just brainstorm the ideas you want and the results you hope to achieve.  (the results on paper should be the motivator you need to get going)

I love using this type of plan/reward get going style when I think of my email list and the creation of content.  Not content you create on a consistent basis.  Special content… for example my booklet, The 5 C’s of the Infinity Marketing Machine.  Content that is designed to attract people to take action.

SO… using the plan/reward/ get going style… this type of booklet has a reward of growing an email list of people I’m trying to attract.  It’s hard work, but worth it when it’s finished!

NOW, here’s our “Big Money Small Idea” I got as an email from Pillsbury.

They sent out an email “Get your free gift” – it’s a download recipe cookbook.  They personalize the email and even include the day I joined their list.

Why would you want to send an email like this?

You already have someone on your list… what’s the point?

You will gain engagement.  This is a big deal.

More important is the result.  You can get rid of people with dead emails or that do not engage… emails do cost money.  If you are sending out several thousand emails that are not opened, you are being charged.

SO… you might want to create a neat download and send it out to your list – you’ll find out who is engaged and ready to receive your information, build your tribe!  HOWEVER, it is also a fantastic way to clean up your list and save money!

Our 5th C is Cash and it’s a fun topic to find great examples on my feeds.  This one stood out because it’s one event with a couple intertwined activities.

It’s a workshop that teaches you how to use a product – BUT, it’s got a twist.  They are promoting how to wear and use a head wrap… and it’s a workshop, however, there’s wine!  So it’s more of a party.

Here’s the twist… because it’s a workshop you buy a ticket, therefore, you make money!  Sure you’re giving away a “free” head wrap with the purchase of a ticket… but that will be built in the price of the ticket.

People are paying money to attend your workshop to learn about how to use your product by actually getting a sample of your product.

AND they’re getting to sample your vibe and since it’s fun you are at the same time building your tribe!

Brilliant!

I love when I check my feeds in Facebook or Instagram and find amazing posts to share with you!

Since we’re always looking for new ways to increase our money this might be a great idea for you.  Maybe not exactly like it, but if you grasp the spirit you’ll be rocking it!

This post is from a baton twirling group.  Remember, I competed fro 17 years so it’s fun to still follow teams and see how the sport evolves… one evolution is the introduction of social media on the business side.

There’s something in baton twirling called a 1-turn.  It’s when you toss the baton in the air and while it’s out of your hand, you turn around once and catch the baton.  You can do a 2-turn… which is two spins.  3-turn… 4-turn… etc.  YES, the very good competitors get up to 9ish, it’s pretty incredible.

BUT you have to start somewhere and that somewhere is the 1-turn. It’s a milestone. Honestly, it’s the first “real” trick that separates the new students from those on their way to competition levels.

SO, back to the post.  This girl was at practice and caught her 1-turn!  Look at how they celebrated.  The studio has a chalkboard and wrote the milestone on it for the girl to stand in front of the studio logo on the wall!

The caption said “she joined the 1-turn club”

This is a pretty exciting way to showcase your product (lessons) as a brand.  LOOK AT THIS… it’s tribe building.  You celebrate your student’s success and share with your online family so they too can celebrate!  It motivates the girl who achieved the milestone, shows your teaching success, and can create a shareable moment.

And it’s an Infinity promotion. You erase the chalk board and wait for the next milestone… the wall is a great decor item that serves double duty.

This is a “very big money small change” item.

How can you do this?   Use creativity –  like our quote says… make it special.

For me… We have a marina… We could do this by celebrating “my first boat ride” or “my first visit to Lake Minnetonka” create a certificate, award to the customer, and take a photo in front of our sign and post online!

Done consistently, it’s a fantastic content creator!

So let’s see… of our 5 C’s we have…

  1. Character (Subject Matter Expert) – YEP, success at teaching.
  2. Content – YEP – it’s a content generator
  3. Consistency – YEP – it’s going to happen again…
  4. Customer – YEP – the student is celebrated
  5. Cash – it likely will build excitement for others to want to join.

This is a home run for Tribeology!

Then guess what… you can be really awesome at social media marketing.  How do I know?

OMG… look at this example!

We are looking at an example of amazing tribe building.  It’s NOT expensive, it’s just fun. Can you imagine getting your hair cut here?  The business looks like they are down to earth and FUNNY.

All they did was take their in store display board with a funny saying that relates to hair… something that is a part of their normal day… they took a photo and posted it on their Instagram page.

That’s It!

People in their store appreciate it and experience the essence of their vibe.  People on line also understand their vibe.

I love to say that my mission is, “I help real word small businesses go from ‘outrageously complicated social media marketing tactics’ to ‘attracting ideal customers that buy things.'”  Now, I didn’t help this person… I just came across their post.  In terms of keeping it simple and focusing on attracting customers that buying thing, it’s awesome, awesome, awesome!

It’s crisp, clean, and simple, AND when you dig deeper that see it’s performing an amazing job of Tribeology!  It builds loyalty and you know what… it does not cost a lot to do this!
