Alright — this made me laugh… but you’ve got to ask!  Today is Friday, and on Friday I like to talk about cash – especially ideas from the real world and how we can make “infinity cash” –

Ultimately, infinity cash is the best!  It’s cash that just keeps coming.  It’s one simple thing that can be replicated without much effort, over and over and over.

The best and simplest way when you sell a product via subscription service.  Remember, I’m a big fan!  Anytime you can get a customer to buy something on a regular basis, for example monthly… you’ve found gold.

But here’s a funny one.  I was shopping on the Office Depot site yesterday… and they regularly offer subscription buying.  It makes a lot of sense for paper, toner, toilet paper.  You know, consumables.

However, I was in the market for a pencil sharpener.  Just a cheap little sharpener to sharpen a pencil about twice a year when we don’t use a mechanical pencil.

I found one!  $2.09 each… it arrived today – great product, self contained for the shavings…. you know, a nice pencil sharper, can’t say enough about it – haha.

Look at the photo… you can buy this sharpener on a subscription basis.  I’m sure someone out there buys many sharpeners and this is probably a welcome service.  Granted, I’m having trouble finding the need to have a shiny new sharpener arrive every month, but again, I’m not the ideal client.

So in terms of “Big Money Small Change” day… just offer it.  You’ve got to ask otherwise the answer really is no.  Someone out there will see this and think, AWESOME I get a new pencil sharpener every month… cool.  Might not be you, but if this is your site, do you really care?  NO, you just want to sell more.

Go for it… ASK!

Have you ever noticed how dumb people are?  They seem like they continue to get dumber with each day.

Then I noticed this online review.

Did you figure it out?

Margaritaville Resort in Orlando has 88 reviews and a 4.1 rating.  Not bad, right?  Look at these two zombies.  One goes so far as to say “no fun”.

You might be thinking to yourself… well, if they didn’t have fun… will I?  And you make a decision.

Guess what people… the resort is brand new and will not open for business for a MONTH!!!

People are so stupid or so malicious that they fill out bad reviews on a place that hasn’t even opened.  As for the other 86 reviews, I guess you can read their reviews and see what’s going on there.

What I’m trying to say is… anyone that receives a bad online review needs to remember this page on Google (who does not verify actual consumers of products) and decide what you want to believe or chalk up to fake.

When we deal with “Big Money Small Change” look at your responses to bad reviews.  Maybe Margaritaville should dumb it down a little more, instead of “ground breaking” it should say in it’s very first 5 words “We are not open yet”

Our short attention span society needs this straight forward, only reading the headline, shortcut to common sense.   Dumb it down. Don’t take for granted that people will understand you.  Make it simple.

Seriously…

People are dumb, help them out.

Sometimes people take a little longer to pick up on tricks. But here’s one that came across my Facebook feed and I just had to share it!

This is the time of year that pajama grams really kick up their viability. They are everywhere!  You see them on TV and the internet.  It’s one of those products I’ve seen but never purchased – it’s kind of like a Chia Pet… although I have to admit I’ve bought that one.

Well… this year it looks like Pajamagram is Leveling Up their game.  They appear to have done something so spectacular that I needed to share it on “Big Money Small Change” day.  Because it really is a small change, something you may be able to do, too.

Add a “matching” thing to your product.  Pajamagram has added matching dog jammies!  What product is so useless and so wanted at the same time?  Dogs do not need clothing but their owners really love making their dog special.

This product seriously does not have any “need” factor HOWEVER it’s awesome because the upgrade and impulse buy factor of it is overwhelming.  Everyone wants to match their dog, right? Well, no one asked the dog.

We’re going to take this idea “out for a spin”!  Get it? It’s a car theme idea!  haha

OK, on Friday we look for different ways to make small changes to create a big impact.  This is a great idea.  We’ve all seen the window cling in your car reminding you to bring your car in for it’s next oil change… that’s pretty routine.

However, look at this one…

This one has a reminder for Tires, Brakes, and Battery… three additional safety “wear and tear” items.  Three additional ways to serve your customers by courtesy checking their vehicle. AND three additional ways to make money that cost very little in additional time for a service crew to check out.

This type of care given to a customer helps convert them from “one and done” into Infinity.  It’s a great tribe building technique which helps to build the “trust” component of Know, Like, and Trust.

Why?

Because you’re checking the brakes, tires, battery and using this window cling as a reminder for their next visit.  In essence you’re showing you care.

Now the challenge is how can you do this at your business?  When do you have an opportunity to “upsell” your next product or service on a standard wear and tear without actually selling… Things I think about are birthday clubs or Christmas Registry… you are providing service and promoting loyalty without actually selling something.

I’ll guarantee with this technique now on your radar you’ll find your opportunity soon!

HINT:  I was at the dentist today, my face is no longer numb thanks for asking… but when done with the entire process the nice gal said, “Let’s schedule your next appointment” – I’m like WTF… I just was tortured and I need to come back???  (That was a little dramatic, it wasn’t that bad) – but I was seriously confused… then she said, “OK six months is June” I had this nice wave of relief flow over when I realized I was “done” and she was scheduling the cleaning.

But this too is a “On your next visit” opportunity….

Humor brings people together and humor builds your tribe.  But sometimes you may be hesitant to show your funny side.

However, even if you’re a “serious business”… it’s OK to show humor.   Nothing gets more serious than law enforcement…

Look at this great example from today.  Our local police department re-posted our local sheriff’s post.

Our lake just started freezing over and people get antsy to walk, snowmobile, or drive on the ice… before it’s safe.   And every year people “go through” the ice and that causes a need for rescue situations.

Every year there is the standard graphic of “proper ice depth” produced that shows what is needed to walk/snowmobile/drive on the ice… but this year… they added Godzilla.

It’s hilarious!

It’s also getting quite a bit of traction.  When you look to see what depth of ice Godzilla needs you also look to see what it takes to walk/snowmobile/drive.

As you are crafting your posts and you’re looking for a great way to get your message across, even with a serious topic, it can be completely appropriate to use humor.

If you create an ad but no one understands it… you are wasting money!  You’ve wasted money on the creation of the ad, on the placement of the ad, AND most important, on the result of the ad.

When you create the ad you are counting on results, therefore… if you have a bad ad that does not communicate your message you’ve wasted the opportunity to seek results!

Don’t take for granted that you will communicate.  Make sure you communicate.

I thought the following social media post did a great job of this…  I didn’t understand it’s headline, but they took, not just one, but two, opportunities to clarify the message.

By the time you finish the ad, you know you’re getting a free dozen cookies!

When you’re looking for that small change to make at your business… make sure you’re communicating!  Whether it’s your ad, blog, or in person communication.  Don’t take for granted that someone understands you.  Make sure they understand you.

It’s like the old saying:  “Let’s eat Grandma!” vs. “Let’s eat, Grandma!”

Clear communication is important.

Let’s take a look at a post I saw online this past summer.

It’s celebrating National Ice Cream Day and it’s a cookie store.  Does the store sell ice cream?  Nope.

Just in case you don’t think you can make money promoting a “National Day Of…” that does not relate directly to your business… look at this

 

As you get more creative with your post think of this one… I love this company. The gal is an artist with frosting.  Look at how adorable these cookies are!  They taste yummie too.

But they don’t sell ice cream.  However, looking at the photo, you see just how creative they are with their marketing.

Here’s a challenge:

Today is National Indiana day… that should be easy for some of you in Indiana… or that have customers from Indiana.

Today is also National Fast Food — that might be a little more difficult… but imagine if you can see a fast food place out the window from your desk?  It’s OK to wish them a Happy Fast Food Day.  Even exercise facilities have “cheat days”!

I’ve got to tell you, Monday is National Carbonated Beverage with Caffeine Day!  YES… I’ll celebrate that one!  But maybe you have a soda machine you visit… it’s OK to make a silly post to just show you’re human.

What I’m trying to say is don’t let your fake plants die because you haven’t pretend watered them.  Let your tribe celebrate with you!  Sometimes silly works.  (PS:  From the dork files… when I was a kid, my parents went out of town and left me the job of watering the plants, hummm much to my surprise, many were fake!  Still watered them… oops)

So don’t actually water fake plants, but doing small things like showing your “behind the scenes” will pay off via loyalty with your tribe.
