What’s happening?  I wish there was a sign so I could find out!

I saw this sign at Disney and thought, with all the technology around, this is pretty cool – an old schools sign.

This was in the lobby and it’s attractive and movable AND informative. It helps to, guess what… build a tribe among the guests!  YES a hotel of 500 rooms certainly needs to create a tribe.  The challenge is, everyday their tribe changes.  BUT, one sign like this is an opportunity to provide activities that support the vibe!

 

You’ll notice that this hotel is a “nautical” theme by sailor Mickey on the sign.  Again, vibe behind the tribe.

So how can you do this?  You’re not a hotel…

Well, if you have download PDF’s online, do they have design layouts that also support your vibe?  Do you have a “schedule” of events that you can share… you may be thinking “arts and crafts” like in the photo… But imagine laying out your next month of “soup of the day”

There are lots of things you already know are coming next, but your customers don’t… so keep them in the loop and build the excitement of your vibe!

Never miss an opportunity to share your vibe.

Email, posts, websites… these are all great places to share your mission statement or history…

BUT look at this!

Vineyard Vines uses their shipping box as an opportunity to create their vibe in your home.  You open the cover and they share their story, right there, under the cover.  It opens up to look like a showpiece!

Now, it might be hard or expensive to replicate this exact style of box…

BUT that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

If you send a bill, include a small flier that shares your story, vibe, message… it’s “free” to mail something additional.

If you send a package – you can create a sticker and get a similar vibe!  Include your story in the package.

Use the same type of sticker and attach to your shopping bag.

There are endless ways to create this little bit of magic for your customers.

Create an Experience!  Look at this candy display…  It evokes the “Old School” general store feel with a little nostalgia in the middle of the fancy hotel.

Why is this important?

Look in the jars… there are Tootsie Rolls, suckers, and other “penny” candies… it looks like Jolly Ranchers…  Super ordinary candy.

BUT, the experience of the glass jar, metal tin, and wooden crate make this a memory.  Even if you are not buying candy, you slow down just a little to appreciate the display.

If you stopped in and saw a slat wall with pegs and hanging bags of tootsie rolls or jolly ranchers would you get the same “longing for yesteryear” feel?

Nope.

So… the question is, “How can you enhance the mood at your business?” and if your in person area is not a retail store, you can do this online with photos, fonts, info graphics and even music!  Look for these opportunities to dare I say, enhance the “VIBE” at your business!

Here’s a quick but great idea for our Saturday “Try This” topic!

I was wondering what the spring break schedule was for our local school district.  I asked Siri and she came up with a link for the district page.  Sure it was the page with the calendar, but here’s the cool part.

Right on the main menu it says, “One page printable” – this is the most helpful idea!

The district could have posted a graphic on the page that showed the dates and that would have been sufficent.

BUT

They went the extra mile (which isn’t difficult) to post a PDF version so you can print out and put on the refrigerator…

Think about what services you offer at your business.  Is there a way that you too can create a one page PDF download?

Friday: Try This!

Don’t wait for perfect, it will never arrive. You’ve got to take action and tweak later.

The reason I mention this today is because we watch what happens on the internet and often we see “perfect” examples that make us feel inferior to what reality really is.

I loved seeing this at the Sheraton in Florida.  They have a very busy convenience store area and nice retail displays.  You can tell it’s very busy because there are huge open spaces for large crowds.

But I turned around and on top of the counter was this…

Two picture frames and waterbottles with the logo of the hotel.  They were just sitting there and if you wanted to purchase, you grabbed one.  That’s it.

Here’s the thing.  They could have waited for the perfect display time and place, but I think we can all learn from this SELL display.

Crowds are coming and going all the time… so whether you have an “in person” business or an “online” business… get out there and SELL or capture leads.  Just start. You can fix it next week.   Just don’t wait for “it” to be perfect.

Are you in business for a “reason”?

You may see that question and say, “of course”.  I don’t want to work for someone, I have a passion for my product or service… the list goes on and on.

But is there a bigger why.  Look at this package of dog treats…

“This bag gives to shelter dogs” that’s the most important message on the package.  Sure it’s the Campfire Feast… but when you buy, is it because it’s campfire flavored dog treats or is it because you want to help shelter dog?

Most likely to help the shelter dogs.

This is important because if you are passionate about a “why” then use this dog treat bag as a role model.  They have positioned their “why” as the focal point of the business.

Now… I didn’t buy the bag, I simply took a photo, therefore, I’m not sure how much they give to shelter dogs… or what they give… but the message of giving is special.

This type of messaging is wonderful for attracting and growing your tribe, people who like the WHY are very loyal.
