Episode #394 – It’s OK to “Just” Focus Your Consistent Content

“Reliability is the precondition for trust.” Wolfgang Schauble

The foundation of your Infinity Marketing Machine is trust.  When you gain trust in your followers it converts them into a tribe!  This tribe then grows in strength and loyalty.

You want this loyalty, after all, this is how you find products that your customers want to buy!

Read that again… your goal is to sell “things” to your customers that they want to buy.  Not stupid dumb things, but things they really desire.  You do this by understanding your tribe.

Lots of this understanding comes from learning what your customers want and providing it regularly… hummmm……kinda sounds like “content and consistency”!

That’s because it is.

Provide your tribe wonderful information they desire and you will automatically learn what products and services they desire.  OH… and you don’t get to take a break from this consistency thing.

Just because you’re busy doesn’t mean your customers are… in fact, they might be waiting for you to say something!  Case in point… right now we are intensely busy at the marina.  OH my, the ice went off our lake 9 days ago, and that’s the latest it’s ever gone off the lake!  BUT, it also turned into “instant spring” so we are crazy busy — however, this is when it’s even more important to give them regular updates.

Now… my social posts are “suffering” because in allocating my time, I’m writing lots and lots of emails to keep our core customer base “in the loop” — it’s a different kind of content, but it’s necessary.  I should be able to reboot my regular content creation.  But sometimes, you need to simply focus.

I like to term this, where life takes over your social media “perfect”!

Episode #388 – It’s NOT About the Fluffy Pillows

“Consistency is not very glamorous… but it is effective.”

Do you want results?  Do you want to increase your sales?  Do you want to make more money?

If you answered “yes” to the above… keep reading!

The Infinity Marketing Machine is a new way of tackling the age old situation of increasing sales among current customers.  The twist is turning these customers into a tribe who’s loyalty encourages the purchase of more and more products.  I like to think of it as the philosophy of  “there’s always something else you can sell someone.”

So knowing that… the foundation of the Infinity Marketing Machine is your ability to provide interesting content.

What is interesting content?

It’s whatever unites your customer base!  If you are a hotel, the thing that unites your customers may be the ability to stay in your rooms… but look deeper.  The hotel provides a restaurant, free breakfast, gift shop or even workout area… that unites them.  Now go deeper… the actual area or destination really unites them. Now even deeper… they’re staying with you to attend business meetings.

When you start to “speak their language” know the difference between a newsletter and posts that are geared toward the fluffy pillows and new TV’s… and business tips for more productive meetings or the restaurants in the area.  Sometimes the information you’ll provide to your customers has nothing to do with your actual business!

The things your customers want to learn are how to USE your business so it benefits them… I mean, if your hotel had a newsletter and featured a review of the latest marketing book, that might be WAY more interesting than learning about the new paint in the hallway, especially if you are 800 miles away from the hotel, sitting in your living room.

Create content that unites your customers… when they’re NOT at your business!  That’s the name of the game in terms of providing content that will turn customers into a tribe and that’s the foundation of the Infinity Marketing Machine!

Episode #382 – The Woman in the Low Cut, Red Sequin Dress… What is Her Personality?

“You can’t photoshop personality” CPoludarch

Imagine a woman, low cut tight red sequin dress.  Imagine the same woman in a white lab coat, hair tied in a tight bun, wearing horn rimmed glasses.  Now, imagine the same woman stepping out of a mini van with a T shirt,  leggins, running shoes, and two children under age 10.

Do you like this woman?  Do you respect this woman?

You have absolutely no idea.  And that’s my point.

When you drive by your business or pull it up on the internet… do people like your business or do they respect it?

You have absolutely no idea.

Social media, which includes Facebook/Pinterest/Instagram, etc… along with email or blogs…. all of the communication you do on a regular and consistent basis IS the personality of your business!

This is your chance to add character to an otherwise unknown entity.  You can be clever, weird, smart, cute… you can be what ever you want!

I recommend you be YOU.  Be the personality of your business… be the personality consistently – -but ultimately you have been given a gift, well we all have been given a gift, we now have the opportunity to create a personality for our business to make it approachable.

If you choose NOT to communicate with your fans, customers, and tribe… wow.  What an opportunity you are missing.  Lately, I’ve focused my message to all of you to be consistent… but I thought it was worth the time to share a “why” of your content.  Sure, it needs to be interesting and it needs to be consistent…. BUT there is a very important reason you are doing this… your business deserves a personality!

And you know what?  You must create it, you can’t Photoshop it!

Episode #368 – Warning – This Post Might Bring Out Your Inner 13 Year Old…

“Be yourself. Nobody can do it better!”

I’ll warn you right now… we are in the middle of a blizzard, the roads are horrid with traffic discouraged AND I just finished compiling the info for my taxes.  That means I’m a little stir crazy!

But honestly, I could not pass this up… it’s one of the best examples of utilizing the Subject Matter Expert skill EVER.

I discovered this post when I woke up at 3:10 to the “beep beep beep” of the plow trucks in my driveway.  So what do you do when you can’t sleep… yes, open up Facebook.  I noticed a post from a girl I used to teach baton twirling to… she’s now married.  She was writing her sister…

The topic was a re-post by a baker.  The baker is also from the Twin Cities and due to the blizzard she decided to share the many comments she received two months ago on a post of a cake she created.  The photo was a designer cake.  It looked pretty, it was pink — it used rock candy and it was designed to look like a Geode.  All shades of pink.  Very cool.

Yeah… that’s not how my former student took it… she wrote to her sister, “LOOK a Vagina”  I’m like WTF?

So I looked at the cake again, and burst out laughing.

This brought me down the rabbit’s hole of Facebook creeping… to which I quickly realized… I was not going to fall back to sleep anytime soon.  It got more hilarious with each customer comment.  I actually came to an article on Epbot.com that I had to screen shot and share.

img_2754.jpg

And thus, the best example of Subject Matter Expert status to humble yourself to adoring fans.  And you know, from the comments this baker is amazing.  As an artist, she was willing to “expose” her talent through the cake.  And as a human, she’s a super hero.  Imagine how you would feel after spending hours on your “labor” of love to have strangers compare the result to… well… a vagina?  But it happened to her and she handled it beautifully!

Here’s what she did… in a single reply, she mentioned that she won Cupcake Wars once and the Food Network’s Holiday Baking Championship – then went on to have some of the best comebacks you’ve ever read.  Look up her Instagram feed at NadiaCakesCupcakes and her Facebook at Nadia Cakes – they are through the roof entertaining AND an example of how to relate to customers on social media.  I’ll guarantee this has become much bigger than she planned.  She has since trademarked the name “Vageode” and celebrated International Women’s Day with even more of her delicate cakes.  Her ability to share her true personality, and in this case, not to take herself too seriously, especially when things journeyed NO WHERE she planned has skyrocketed her success.

This is why you need to position yourself as a Subject Matter Expert.  When you become the leader of your industry it gives you the opportunity to relate to your customers, share expertise, and weather the storm!

All I have to say is…. thank goodness this is not episode #369… so close! Whew!
