TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 747 – Did Your Light Bulb Just Go On?

Quote: “Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.”― Warren Buffett

Thursday: Infinity Customer

What is Price?  Normally if you think of a price it’s that number written on a sticker that tells you how many dollars you need to spend to take home a product.

You walk into the boutique and see an amazing lamp on the shelf.  It’s gold and has sparkle blue rhinestones around the shade and the cutest drawstring to pull instead of an on/off switch.   And hanging next to the drawstring is a tag that reads $9.95

You immediately buy it and go home.

The lamp is plugged in and you pull the drawstring annnnnnd nothing.  You spent 9.95 for nothing.  The lamp is adorable.  It brings you a little joy to see it, but you wanted it for your desk and now it’s just clutter.  You still can’t see your paperwork. That does not bring you joy.

What’s the value of your $9.95?  Not much.

So what is price?  It’s the exchange.  It’s what you give with the expectation of receiving some joy.

Your customers GIVE you their email with the expectation of receiving joy.

That brings me to our next questions… what is joy? That’s the value they receive. This value can be simple happiness from a cute puppy video… to super joy at a BOGO offer!  The email that you send is magic.

When you adjust your thinking from “ugh I have to send an email” to “I’m creating value” you’ll better understand the relationship you’re creating.

Although you are not receiving money for your “lamp” you do need to make sure that when the drawstring is pulled it lights up!  You must share value with your tribe.  This is the only way you can bond them and transform from “one and done” into Infinity!

The better your customers feel about the value they receive the more likely they are to trust you when you offer them an item for sale.  Value Matters!

Did your light bulb just go on?

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 739 – Building A Tribe Makes A Difference

Quote: “Shifting customer needs are common in today’s marketplace…”

Thursday: Infinity Customer

The fun part of creating your Infinity Marketing Machine is that you can create a group of people that are drawn together for a common interest.

Providing information and helping them discover the best of what you do.  For example, I host boating information and it’s fun to share all of the fun of what there is to do in our area.

This gives us the opportunity to sell things to a group that knows, likes, and trusts us.

But there’s another benefit… it helps us understand what they like and don’t like.  Because you are providing information to them and get an interactive response… they like it or share it or even comment.

This is helpful information!

Instead of buying a product and placing an ad… you can talk about a new trend, watch your engagement, and if positive provide your product!

But… here’s the catch… customers needs are changing faster and faster.  The greatest benefit to creating your own following is that you have a better opportunity to discover these changes.

A couple years ago I bought a cool new product – a large folding water mat.  It was fantastic, flew off the shelves.  This year, I reordered… omg… they did not sell well. I needed to get very creative and I developed an offer to promote our mid-season discount for the boat club… join our boat club and receive a watermat!

This worked well.  Here’s the deal… I would not have had the opportunity to sell these mats quickly if I did not have a tribe!

Building a tribe makes a difference.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #738 – Just Keep Going

Quote: “Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement” – Matt Biondi

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

Last week I talked about taking the high road.  Sometimes its tougher than others… well my saga has continued now or over a week.  It’s getting better… I think.

BUT… this is when you just have to jump in with both feet and just go with persistence.

On Monday I encouraged you focus on trust because big changes are coming that will command a swing back to all things real.  But this involves really focusing on your posting schedule and creating content people really want to read.

If you feel like you’re getting no where with your efforts… you simply don’t know how close you are!  Your ability to keep going will be rewarded.

Remember, build your own list.  Turn the list into a tribe.  And just keep going!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 737 – Picture This!

Satuday: Try This

This is an awesome idea.  I know… it’s from Disney Springs and to make it more specific… from Cirque Du Soleil.

It’s a world famous show from a world famous location… how on earth can you use it at your business.

Well… if you see something like this what do you do?

You go right up to the design, stop… pose… snap a photo… then post!

Make it easy for your customers to promote your business.  I was talkig to my cousin earlier this week.  She’s at the final stages of building an amazing yoga studio.  She asked me if I liked the design she’s picking out for the main wall.

I said it’s great!

Then I mentioned she should think about adding her business name or logo… it’s a great location for her to film in front of!  You can mark mile stones like birthdays or goals met…  but it makes a permanent location to show consistency in your photos.

The branding helps when people scroll through their feeds…

This is how you use a world famous idea at your location!

Try This!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 734 – Sometimes the High Road Sucks

Quote: Want to avoid the crowd? Always take the high road.

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

It’s easy to yell back.  It’s easy to put someone down.  But it takes some serious skill to rise above the ugly.

Some days are harder at your business than others…  Let’s use the example of online reviews to illustrate how the concept of the “high road” is important.

In the WAR of online reviews… the least crazy person sounds most credible.  For example… I have a bad review from a guy… it was 3 years after the incident that he posted… Well… since he’ll never see this blog.  I would love to write, “Yeah, how’s the DWI… since you were so drunk I called the cops as you drove away” — but is that necessary?  It would feel good to make that my reply (oh whi am I kidding, that felt good to type) but again, he’ll never read it here and I feel comfortable using it as an example for you.

It makes more sense to let him rant and just not comment.  I know, some would disagree and say you need to comment… there are times that silence IS a response.

Another example, the last couple weeks have been SUPER difficult for me. Lots and lots of math and cross checking.  You own a business, you know that means something ain’t adding up… which is typically an inventory shrinkage problem.  It sucks, you have things like this that happen, but guess what, the high road is difficult because the argument, put downs, and mud slinging is easier.

However

Sometimes you need to grin and suck it up.  In other words, take the high road.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 732 – Why Do You Want to Compete for Local Awards?

‎Quote: ”A goal should scare you a little, and excite you a lot.” Joe Vitale

Monday : Subject Matter Expert

Are awards important?

Yes and no… if you are the local bakery and enter your pie into the State Fair and win a blue ribbon then YES it’s important.

If you are an exercise guru and enter a pie eating contest and win… hummmmm maybe not.

Awards are fun and keep you at the top of your game.  But what about the message it send to someone that doesn’t know you?  The award is a 3rd party endorsement of whatever you competed in.

Here’s the deal though, you need to look for opportunities.  Sometimes you may think that the award is small or trivial, but there’s no such thing.  If someone wants to recognize your accomplishment(s) – that’s quite an honor.

This recognition from 3rd party is critical to building your credibility!  Awards are a great way to  gain immediate trust with your prospective customers because someone else has recognized you!

I think the most common award a business can participate in is the award your local newspaper hosts. Typically this is an award that comes via getting your customers to “vote” for you on their site.  The winners receive an award for your office and logo for your website.

Well… this award, at a minimum, gives you social proof in your local community!  What a better recognition than to have your customers vote for you to win!  It also builds a bond with your customers, they helped to get your business recognized.

Pretty cool!

This awards also acts as a stepping stone to the next award.

Your next award may be a state or regional trade organization – they often have a section on their application that asks for honors/awards received… well using that local award proves that a different organization was willing to lend their good name to promote YOU!

And finally, the regional award leads to the national award.  Imagine being a national winner or nationally recognized… that’s a really cool thing!

But this all start with your local award, the one that is right in front of you if only to take few moments to compete.

Guess what your homework is for today?  Find the award and COMPETE!
