TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 683 – What’s the Real Value of ONE Post?

Here we go!  Post 683.  That’s so many… and you know what??  I started with post number one.

I didn’t plan to write over 600 posts, in fact, when I started I really really REALLY worried I’d run out of things to say.  I also feared that I’d use up all of my “good stuff” at the beginning and the rest of the post would be lame.

Here’s secret, not every post will be amazing.  Not every post will even be interesting.  But there’s something about the consistency that is important.

For me the consistency helps me build a pattern.  I have a specific time of day that I allocate for writing.

Here’s another little secret, when I started writing I did so for me.  It was MY goal to write every day, just to see if I could do it… but somewhere along the way it transformed into writing for you.

I write to share information to help with your journey and your process.  The fun part of a post such as this is to share where I was because it’s quite likely you are there right now.

Someday you will have over 600 posts, if and only if, you have your number one post.  Not your best post, just your first… then you keep going.

But I’ll tell you this… when you do have this type of momentum you will also be building your very own content library that you can re-use!  If I took every post together in one great big book I’d have almost 700 pages!

However as a content marketer, the value is not 700 pages together – but understanding if I chose to re-use each post I’d have nearly 700 days of content!  What’s that… 2 years?  cool.

But again, it all starts with ONE… just one page, one post, and one moment to sit down and write, it’s pretty valuable.

The most amazing thing you can give your tribe is yourself.  The truest most approachable down to earth imperfect perfection you’ve got!

And then I say you need to position yourself as a Subject Matter Expert… and you are confused.

How can you be an expert and at the same time be imperfect.

Well… this is the wonderful aspect of a Subject Matter Expert!  You don’t have to have a professional degree to be you.  You and your experience are “just enough” for your tribe, especially when you bring in other experts to enhance your knowledge.

Think about it like this… I’m in a Facebook group that discusses business tactics.  The moderator regularly brings in “live” special events… two that I’m remembering off my head are an attorney and an Instagram expert.

The moderator is not the expert, but she has rallied a tribe that needs HER connections.  She goes out of her way to find out what her tribe needs and provide it, therefore she IS the perfect imperfect small business Subject Matter Expert.

Get it?

My cousin has a yoga studio, but she regularly brings in experts to enhance the wellness teachings whether it’s meditation or energy work.  She has a tribe but regularly brings in other experts to enhance her imperfect perfection (she’ll laugh and just say she’s imperfect) but she really goes out of her way to continually elevate HER Subject Matter Expert status.

You can do this too.

When you’re out of your element, bring in another expert to write the PDF, Create the post, host the live, or interview for your podcast.

It’s OK to know where your knowledge needs more… and then give it to your tribe – they won’t leave you, in fact… they’ll stick around even longer.  It’s part of that “one stop” things we all love!

Customers do not give you money.  You may wonder… “what the heck?” — of course they give you money.

Not so fast.

You exchange money for goods and services.  To “give” you money implies that you are standing with your hand out and magically you have a line of customers with open wallets throwing money at you!

Knowing that this scenario simply doesn’t happen, how do you get customers to exchange money with you?

It’s about value!

When you provide value higher than your competitors your customers find you and they stay.

So how do you provide value?  By discovering what they want and giving it to them.  This is the best part of the Infinity Marketing Machine.

You provide the value to attract your tribe.  The content you create is your vibe and when it reflects your business personality your customer stick around… for a long time.

They buy from you because you provide a value.  It’s not the value of free shipping, double quantities, or low price.  It’s the value of your personality.

Get to the heart of your personality through content and you will create Infinity Customers.

Today’s quote is fun because the result might not always be the same… this is a mind bender that will make you think.

I consistently talk about the need to be consistent when providing your customers with content.  You need to create a bond and this is done by showing up regularly in their email box or in their newsfeed.

It’s no different from the concept of dating someone.  You need to show up regularly to build trust… I mean, imagine if you went out on a great date, got a phone call the next day… then nothing for 3 days… then a call to go out, you go out, get a phone call, another phone call then nothing or 5 days… you’d be left wondering, “what the heck?”

The consistency for content creation works the same.  You need to show up every day.

However… if we look at our quote, “Doing today what you did yesterday will make tomorrow the same as today” – does it?

If you create content today and yesterday and tomorrow, you’re consistent – BUT your bond is getting stronger and stronger!

So BOOM – it’s not the same.  It’s like cutting calories yesterday, today, and tomorrow… you’ll lose weight… the consistency of the act doesn’t make the result the same!

If you want a different result you have to be consistent.  And that’s the mind twister!  Normally if you want the same result you need to do the same thing over and over and over… but if you want a different result you also do the same thing over and over and over — it’s just the “thing” is different!

What am I trying to say?  Create content.  Do it consistently.  You will get great results and build your loyalty.  🙂

How can you serve your customers? That’s an important question to answer.

I’ve found the best way to serve is through information.  Sure, positioning yourself as a Subject Matter Expert helps with your credibility…but really, being a Subject Matter Expert only happens with information.  Information you provide.

So how do you know you’re providing the right information?

Feedback really helps.  However… we’re not always lucky enough to have feedback so then how do you know you’re providing the “right” information?  Start with a great big list of questions!

This really is a great way to get to the information your customers want.  Take time to write down every question you’ve ever been asked.  Just write… hold a brainstorm session with yourself and think to a customer interaction and write down what you are asked!

The next step is to answer every question you wrote down! This becomes a very big and valuable asset to your customers!  When you post it on your website your customers can research and find the answers to the “common” questions AND this makes them more comfortable, often spurring more complex questions…

This way when they call they can get real “buyer” questions answered – it saves them time (and it saves you time).

It’s a great way to serve!

Earlier this week I talked about emotional words and yesterday I talked about putting your customer into your post… then I came across a photo I took earlier this spring.

WOW

Renting a car is kind of a mundane event.  When you travel you need to have ground transportation.  And it’s pretty easy to substitute the businesses that provide car rental…

Look what this one did to help you use the product – they used emotional words to help paint the picture of the emotion of their rental cars.

They don’t say convertible, 4 wheel drive, automatic transmission… it says scenic, fun, and family.

This is something you can do… maybe not on a wall as your back drop – but what about on your website or brochure?

Use the opportunity to share the words of the emotion of your product!

You want to create an email for your customers.  Easy… well, it should be.  But, you’ve got to plan.

The plan comes from coordinating it with your other messaging.  The goal is to provide your customers with information they desire… remember this is the way to build credibility by getting your customers to know, like, and trust you.

However…

You need to be respectful of their time.

What I mean by this is that you cannot bombard them with lots and lots of messages all at one time!

Well, how do you keep 5,000 people or 50 people all coordinated on their journey?

You need to plan… and plan well.  Develop your ideal journey that your emails will take.  If you start a welcome series and it runs everyday for 5 days, don’t have the customer immediately start your weekly newsletter right away.  Wait until the first Tuesday after the welcome series is completed.

See what I did?

Regardless of the day of the week the welcome series is started, your customers all funnel down to the one day of the week that your weekly newsletter is sent… THEN, all 5,000 (or 50) people are on the exact same journey!

Pretty cool, eh?

It’s the way of making your job of creating new emails… simple!
