Monday:  Subject Matter Expert

I picked today’s quote to help us all understand the important reason behind WHY we need to position ourselves as Subject Matter Experts.

Confidence.

Confidence is a simple word that is terribly complex.  We want to appear confident but at the same time not so confident that we are arrogant.  However, there is the danger of underselling our accomplishments in an effort to humble that creates a compeetitive disadvantage.

That’s why today’s inspiration is fantastic.

Use it as a tool to inspire confidence in your ability to inspire confidence!  (I couldn’t resist)

The first C of the Infinity Marketing Machine is “C”redibility.  It its our ability to create social proof with our tribe. We position ourselves as experts so that it builds the fundamental “trust” of know, like, and trust that is vital to bonding a tribe to you.

BUT… we know this.  We know that we should position ourselves as Subject Matter Experts.   We know that we should write a blog and “beef up” our About Me pages.  We know that we should share our knowledge… however, it’s uncomfortable OR seems like a time waster because we think, “who wants to know about me???”

It’s not about what you think, it’s about what your potential customers and potential future tribe thinks… they have ZERO confidence in you if you don’t tell them.

SO TELL THEM.

Spend the time to build the confidence that they need in you, and in turn you’ll find confidence in yourself.  And when you have confidence in yourself, others will have confidence in you… it’s like a big infinity loop.

What is value?  Think of a time you received a great deal, was it the price or was it the feeling you had from purchasing.

I was listening to one of my favorite books (again) today, The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles.  This is always a good book to “check-in” with, and I do every couple months.  And I reached this important reminder…

You must provide more use value than cash value received.

Let’s break it down.

Use value that’s what you “get out” or benefit from the product.  And cash value is what you pay.  Think about a book.  There’s paper bound together with ink on the pages.  The cash value is the amount you pay, and often you are paying more than the price of the raw paper/ink.

The use value is what you get out of the book!  Let’s say you read the letters on the page and it creates an idea that bonds you with your family, or it makes you $2,000.  Your use value far surpasses the cash value you paid!

This is what you need to strive for in your business.  When you determine how to compete with value you will never compete with price again.  The reason is because your customers who are comparing business will choose yours because of your perceived value!

Look for ways to increase value and look for ways to market value.  At our marina we historically wrote a suggested work order on every boat in our winter storage program.  We just did it and would send out, unannounced.  Now we market this service. It’s a huge value to our customers and it has raised our “use value” in their eyes.

Happy New Year!  It’s a time of new possibilities and exciting fresh starts… so you know what I’m going to do?

I’m going to take a look back at the last 8 days of 2018… why?  Well, I’m just that kind of person. haha

Nah, I really want to show you how to take something very ordinary and make it into a big opportunity.  Last week on Tuesday, our Content & Consistency day I showed you how I turned a tree into multiple content sources.

Well… here’s the extraordinary part of the tree…

I reused it!  Well… I repurposed it into a New Years Theme with a ball drop.

OK, it’s a little more than that.  What I did over the past 8 days was put my Tribeology Guidelines to the test and orchestrated a special event.  My challenge was this… it’s winter and my site Pontoon Girl is focused on boating.  Sure, some parts of the USA are warm enough to boat… but where I am we have over a foot of ice on the lake.

Yet… my results over 8 days:
101 New Pontoon Girls!
89 trusted me with BOTH email and mailing address
21 NEW installs of the Pontoon Girl App
47 Social Media Shares
A compounded social conversion rate of 459.1%
$110.00 in Sales
Over 100 new follows on Facebook!

The sales were icing on the cake, my goal was to increase my mailing list.  Which I did!  I grew my list by 28.9% in eight days which is incredible… and in this situation it’s a “summer vibe” lifestyle that grew in the middle of the winter!

How did I do it?
I hosted a contest and make it into a special event.  The grand prize was a Pontoon Girl blanket!  However, your skeptical side should say… yes, but these are not loyal followers, they signed up just to enter the contest.

My messaging to attract people to my tribe had the same focus.  I focused on people interested in pontoon boats and I showed them the same love (vibe) they normally receive from me… the “next step” was the contest.  Therefore, I have a healthy list of people who’s first point of entry was simply wanting to join the Pontoon Girl vibe.

 

Why the Tree and Ball Drop?  This allowed me to make it timely and fun.  It generated excitement.  It also showcased the vibe of ME which as we know when you focus on Tribeology you must become the vibe behind your tribe.

My advice.  Content and Consistency does not need to be boring or ordinary.  When you plan you can take your content to the next level, but always be ready to capture your leads to convert from “one and done” to Infinity!

So moving forward into 2019 and the Boat Show season, I have 100 new people to attract even more Pontoon Girls!

Here’s a quick but great idea for our Saturday “Try This” topic!

I was wondering what the spring break schedule was for our local school district.  I asked Siri and she came up with a link for the district page.  Sure it was the page with the calendar, but here’s the cool part.

Right on the main menu it says, “One page printable” – this is the most helpful idea!

The district could have posted a graphic on the page that showed the dates and that would have been sufficent.

BUT

They went the extra mile (which isn’t difficult) to post a PDF version so you can print out and put on the refrigerator…

Think about what services you offer at your business.  Is there a way that you too can create a one page PDF download?

Alright — this made me laugh… but you’ve got to ask!  Today is Friday, and on Friday I like to talk about cash – especially ideas from the real world and how we can make “infinity cash” –

Ultimately, infinity cash is the best!  It’s cash that just keeps coming.  It’s one simple thing that can be replicated without much effort, over and over and over.

The best and simplest way when you sell a product via subscription service.  Remember, I’m a big fan!  Anytime you can get a customer to buy something on a regular basis, for example monthly… you’ve found gold.

But here’s a funny one.  I was shopping on the Office Depot site yesterday… and they regularly offer subscription buying.  It makes a lot of sense for paper, toner, toilet paper.  You know, consumables.

However, I was in the market for a pencil sharpener.  Just a cheap little sharpener to sharpen a pencil about twice a year when we don’t use a mechanical pencil.

I found one!  $2.09 each… it arrived today – great product, self contained for the shavings…. you know, a nice pencil sharper, can’t say enough about it – haha.

Look at the photo… you can buy this sharpener on a subscription basis.  I’m sure someone out there buys many sharpeners and this is probably a welcome service.  Granted, I’m having trouble finding the need to have a shiny new sharpener arrive every month, but again, I’m not the ideal client.

So in terms of “Big Money Small Change” day… just offer it.  You’ve got to ask otherwise the answer really is no.  Someone out there will see this and think, AWESOME I get a new pencil sharpener every month… cool.  Might not be you, but if this is your site, do you really care?  NO, you just want to sell more.

Go for it… ASK!
