Hummmmmm someone ate my Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups.

OK, first off… I don’t like Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups and Second, I’m annoyed they were eaten.  Well, I really don’t know if they were actually eaten, but I did not get them.

So how is it I didn’t get something I don’t like?  Amazon!

I actually ordered a pack of Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups off Amazon… why?  Because they’re a gift for my cousin.  He LOVES them… I’m putting them in the package with other silly things that he loves.  It’s a goofy package, but, in this new marketing era… I could pull up Amazon, spend 15 minutes, and have all the silly trinkets that he would love arrive at my door.  Presto, instant present.

BUT

Today, and this is a first for me, I had four packages arrive… One was an oversized padded yellow mailer, with the end open and empty inside.  OH and ask me if I actually opened the end super wide, shook it thinking some magical Reece’s Peanut Butter Package was going to appear. (but really, I did glare inside and shake it… why? I have NO clue)

Next step, text my other cousin that used to work for Amazon…  who said, that sometimes empty mailers “happen”, just log in and file for a refund.  It really was that simple.  I was able to return the package that I never received.  Mentally processing returning something I never received is harder than actually returning something I never received.

Tick tock, tick tock, you realize that at the end of reading this blog post you’ll be at a point in your life where you’ll never get that time back again?  My tid bit is Amazon returns are easy.  My REAL take away is… choose wisely how you spend your time.   It’s easy to get distracted and unlike empty packages, time is not refundable.  🙂

Focus on winning.  The basketball team is on the floor playing ball and they are focused on winning… do they win?

Probably not.

WHAT!?!!?!??

If you focus on winning you rarely win. I mean, what does winning mean?  The basketball team focuses on seeing the clock winding down, 3…2…1 we won!

NO!

The basketball focuses on team work.  They focus on the plays they practiced. They focus on preparation, like if their shoes are tied. They focus on the process.

If you want to win at tribe building, you must focus on my process.

Here’s my process.

Turn customers from “one and done” into “Infinity Customers” these are people that Know, Like, and Trust you.  You have earned this trust via the 5 C’s of Tribeology: Credibility, Content, Consistency, Customers, Cash.    When you have transformed the customers into this wonderful, magnificent tribe you will then be able to focus on offering products to them instead of searching for people to buy your products!

That’s it.

That’s the process.

Each day on this blog I focus on a different “C”.  Today is “Content and Consistency” – therefore, today I’m sharing a tip.  The tip is you yourself need to focus on “the process” to build your tribe.

If your focus is on “making money” it is the same as the basketball team “winning”.  Instead, focus on the process.

When you focus on the process, the money will follow.

There is one thing that has always surprised me… that’s when people are excited to have a “snow day”. Sure it’s fun to have time off.

But I’m speaking of “snow days” from school. OR you’re excited when the teacher lets you out early.

This baffles me.

You spend money for a class and then are thrilled when you don’t have to go! What kind of mindset is that? Its like paying for a dinner and being thrilled when they don’t bring dessert that you paid for… or you ordered a large popcorn and got a small.

You paid for it, you should be excited to get the full thing.

OK, enough of my rant, but I saw this post and thought to myself…

FINALLY SOMEONE THAT UNDERSTANDS IT.

 

Start looking at snow days as your time to get ahead! It’s like a catch up day or even a day you can work on the creative things you’ve been putting off. But it’s a great time, not to lay around and binge on Netflix… but you can make more money!

Look at the post. They are closed YET they thought ahead and said, let’s use this snow (lemon) and make lemonade snow (not yellow snow, that’s gross… but I knew you were thinking it!) haha

Alright, but look at the possibilities.

Many other people are taking their snow day to hang out, stuck with down time, and you know down time is occupied by surfing time… so why not go a step further and have your snow-day file! Come up with a GOOD promotion, like a BIG discount on crap you want to get rid of and clearance it out… shoot out an email to your list, put the post up, take out an ad and run a flash sale.

If it’s snowing where you are but your customer is in the sun… it’s OK. Maybe they’ll feel bad for you.

PS: I’ve got a whole weekend of potential snow days so I’ll try this and let you know what happens!

Tic Tock… what’s that?  OH it’s time.

I love to hear people when they say, I don’t have time.   Especially when it has to do with strengthening their knowledge.  “I don’t have time to go to classes to learn X” and yet… they have time to complain.  OR better yet, in three years when they reap the benefit of taking the classes to learn X they will STILL have the time to complain.

It doesn’t make sense.

When you want your business to grow you need to market yourself.  We regularly go over this “why” behind this statement, so I’ll review it… we need to market ourselves because people want to do business with people.

Therefore, you need to put yourself out there.  There’s a funny thing that happens when you “put yourself out there” and that is that you automatically become a public presence.

Now… that doesn’t mean an expert.

Let’s look at Hollywood and politics.  I’m not going to use names but why on earth does anyone think that someone who stars in movies has any basis for political guidance.

I guess it doesn’t matter “why on earth” the fact is, they have a voice and they have a stage.  (I ripped that off from my favorite singer/songwriter Kenny Chesney which is pretty amazing because I really like Debbie Gibson, too. It was the 80s)  Back to the quote “voice and stage” – I heard an interview with Kenny Chesney speaking of the hurricanes that hit the islands.

He didn’t know what he could do to help, but he had a “voice and a stage” hummmmmm….

Kinda powerful.

Back to the lame-o stars and politics.  Oh boy, by nature of their work they also have a voice and stage.  They choose to use it for political purposes.

What the heck does this have to do with you and today’s inspiration?  The purpose of your business is to give you the ability to exist and thrive doing something you enjoy.  As such, what happens when that all disappears?

OH chrimmity, not in the morbid sense…  but maybe you’ll get bored.

Then what?

Let’s say you’ve sold Real Estate for 30 years… and you’re burned out.  That doesn’t make the knowledge disappear.  However, if you’ve positioned yourself as a Subject Matter Expert, with a blog and taken the TIME to continually invest in youself, you could “quit” selling homes and start consulting.  OR if you’re a teacher, doctor, sales person, there are so many possibilities for your “after” career

BUT

You need to start now.

Think of positioning yourself as your “spring board” to the next thing… continue to work at what you are doing, but utilize your TIME to invest in yourself so you can SPRING to the next possibility… because you never know when that could happen!

The quote for today is one I use regularly.  In the summer we rent boats and we have several regular customers.  They come in a couple times a week.

The process to check out a boat is to listen to our orientation to the boat operation.  Well, when you’ve seen it a couple times, you’ve seen it.

However, we need to go over it each time.  It’s like the take off speech we’ve seen on a plane.   Even though you’ve seen it, you need to see it again.

I use the phrase, “you’ve paid for the whole show…” and then I finish the speech quickly.

Well… that makes me think.

What is your show?  What do you do at your business OR what CAN you do at your business to cross the line from a traditional service to a “wow factor” show?

Here was my trip to the “fancy” car wash.

First the entire process is featured with the floor to ceiling windows… but then look above the window, my car was getting the special service for clear coat.

This car wash business has turned their standard service into an experience.  You EXPERIENCE the car wash.

One very easy way I do this, and it’s SUPER easy… something you can do, too.

Make your “sign up” process special.  When you sign a new client, or sign an new contract… have an engraved pen.  Honestly, they are not expensive.  But you make the process a BIG DEAL.  They sign and you give them the pen.

It’s fun, it’s simple, it’s memorable… it’s a show.

Think of the car wash… do the pen.
