Tuesday: Content and Consistency

You need to create consistent content for your tribe.  In fact, even before they become a tribe you must position yourself as the Subject Matter Expert in your field so your tribe has someone to follow!  The best way to accomplish this is via original content.

However…

This is easier said than done!

I know, I’ve said it before, content is your gift.  It’s your way of sharing information with your tribe that they really want to hear… but you’re tired and burned out and someone just yelled at your and writing anything sounds like the worst thing on the planet… let alone getting in front of a camera with my happy face to tell the world how great my business is… so then what?

DO IT ANYWAY.

Remember, not every piece of content you product will be your best.  It’s simply impossible… but, your tribe will love you anyway.  Actually, they’ll appreciate hearing from you.  If you don’t show up they’ll miss you.  This is the reason you need to create your content consistently.

Thinking of today’s inspiration… what is the result of our content?

Hummmmmm…… Our goal is to build trust with customers.  Trust happens when they “trust” we’ll show up on their newsfeed or in their email box.  Trust happens when we share our knowledge.

Another Hummmm…. Our other goal is to find customers that know and like us…. well, when we write they learn a little about us (like me and my obsession with chocolate chip cookies)…. and we like them because of their crazy personalities.  (Or nice sweet reserved personalities – not me) – but you get my point, when you produce content regularly, the outcome is that your customers begin to know you and like you.

Therefore, our ultimate goal is to transition customers to a tribe that knows, likes, and trusts us AND all three of these things happens with CONSISTENT content… let’s focus on the result and get out there and create something to share.

Friday: Big Money Small Change

We’re going to take this idea “out for a spin”!  Get it? It’s a car theme idea!  haha

OK, on Friday we look for different ways to make small changes to create a big impact.  This is a great idea.  We’ve all seen the window cling in your car reminding you to bring your car in for it’s next oil change… that’s pretty routine.

However, look at this one…

This one has a reminder for Tires, Brakes, and Battery… three additional safety “wear and tear” items.  Three additional ways to serve your customers by courtesy checking their vehicle. AND three additional ways to make money that cost very little in additional time for a service crew to check out.

This type of care given to a customer helps convert them from “one and done” into Infinity.  It’s a great tribe building technique which helps to build the “trust” component of Know, Like, and Trust.

Why?

Because you’re checking the brakes, tires, battery and using this window cling as a reminder for their next visit.  In essence you’re showing you care.

Now the challenge is how can you do this at your business?  When do you have an opportunity to “upsell” your next product or service on a standard wear and tear without actually selling… Things I think about are birthday clubs or Christmas Registry… you are providing service and promoting loyalty without actually selling something.

I’ll guarantee with this technique now on your radar you’ll find your opportunity soon!

HINT:  I was at the dentist today, my face is no longer numb thanks for asking… but when done with the entire process the nice gal said, “Let’s schedule your next appointment” – I’m like WTF… I just was tortured and I need to come back???  (That was a little dramatic, it wasn’t that bad) – but I was seriously confused… then she said, “OK six months is June” I had this nice wave of relief flow over when I realized I was “done” and she was scheduling the cleaning.

But this too is a “On your next visit” opportunity….

It’s important to be a good citizen in your community… but it does get overwhelming with the constant asking for donations.

You want to help… but at a certain point you do have to look out for your business.

So what can you do?

Offer your space!  I don’t mean your physical space in your building…

Is there a way you can put a sticker on your box or a flier in your bag… how about a flier in a bill you send out.  There a lots of ways you can help spread the word!

Today I was picking up a pizza and the top of their box were stickers for two upcoming up events… one is a free movie sponsored by the fire department and the other is a fundraiser for teens.

Both are a great way to help out the organization.  You can say “yes” without hurting your own finances, and you share with your tribe a useful way they can take part in something fun, too!

“Inviting people into your home is about them, and not you. . . “

When I’m creating marketing ideas the easy way to come up with the best ideas is to consider the customer as a guest.

Sometimes this is a tough leap to make… depending on your crowd… but when you visualize the customer in your house you get a completely different perspective on how to interact with them.

For example… if you invite someone to your home, and they show up, you invite them in.  I mean how rude would it be to leave them on the porch?!

Same for your business.  Every piece of advertising you create is an invitation to visit your “home” a.k.a. your business.

That means… when they show up, treat them well!  Make sure your store/or office front is clean, welcoming, and that you are happy to see them!

Remember, you INVITED them.

See the difference?  If you look at marketing/advertising as your way to INVITE people it’s completely different from placing an ad or writing a post.

I’ve spent a lot of time on this particular topic… because I really, really like it.  I created a mini-series.  The first of a three part series on the way to becoming a tribeologist!

Yes… how cool is that.

We start with the marketing party system, move to the mini-infinity, then complete pre-tribe.  These three things are going to transform your business, easily, into it’s own Infinity Marketing Machine – based on the concept of building a loyal tribe that knows, likes, and trusts you!

It’s always risky naming a post “Get a Room” but when we look at today’s inspiration it all makes sense.

When we are building a tribe you’ve got to speak to them… HA!  I’ve now jumped from “Get a Room” to speaking about your tribe.  It’s getting a little strange at my keyboard.  Then again, I did write this on Halloween night.

OK. Back to normal.

Each Thursday our main goal is to learn how to better connect with our customers and turn them into a loyal tribe… to do this we need to speak their language… and this means we need to become the “vibe behind our tribe”

You need to be this person.  You must be the Leader.

Today’s inspiration states there’s always room for improvement – thus “get a room” meaning… always improve.

So Halloween at Noon I was at Subway and it hit me.  Carving Pineapples.

WTF is she talking about now.

Well… I have a site on the back burner which I’m currently cultivating.  It’s called Pineapples In Progress.  You see… I’ve always felt that there are times in life you need a crown.  I mean… doesn’t vacuuming just sound TOTALLY better if you’re wearing a sparkle crown?

That idea became a solid “run with it” idea when I came across the mantra “Be a Pineapple… Stand Tall, Wear a Crown, and Be Sweet on the Inside”  However, let’s face facts, not every day we’re feeling “pineapplely” – and that’s why, vacuuming while wearing a crown, just might make you feel a whole lot better.

Back to carving pineapples.

I was at Subway and getting ready to post my PineapplesInProgress.com Midweek Motivation – when it hit me.  The one I was going to post was a normal inspiration and THIS WAS HALLOWEEN.  I just wonder if anyone has ever tried to carve a pineapple like a pumpkin…

Sure enough I found a photo!  A very cool photo… and then it hit me.

You cannot carve pineapples.  It’s like trying to fit into a crowd by imitating… and yet you can be a good pineapple that imitates a pumpkin BUT you’ll never be a pumpkin.

BOOM.

Inspiration: “Somedays I feel like a lost puzzle piece tryin to find where I fit in this world.

I LOVE THIS.  I totally “got a room” and ran with it.

My only problem was… how do I share it with YOU.  I had already posted my Midweek Motivation for here… but I really wanted you to see it.

So there you go.  When you are building your tribe, really go deep into the vibe, and love them.  You just might find out that “carving a pineapple” is magic!

Be the vibe behind your tribe.

Also… never be afraid to run with a last minute idea… “Get a Room”!

Make a connection.  Recently I stayed at a nearby hotel.  It’s just a chain hotel but the neat thing they have done is selected decor that bonds with our resort area.

They have selected to do it via historical photos.  Sure, some visitors may not notice they are specific to the area because they look like art.

But…. if you have a connection to the area you quickly realize they are actually “old time” lake photos.  The one below is the steamboat docks in Excelsior from the 1800’s.  The docks are still there, but the steam boats have been swapped out for large dinner cruise boats.

Other examples I’ve seen in our area include the two grocery stores have named the aisles after the bays on our lake.  There are at least two other hotels that have named their ball rooms after the bays.

So whether it’s aisle names, photos, restaurant food names, or even specials…select your area attractions or even school colors/mascots! There are many ways to show your customers that you are part of the community.  We strive to attract customers that know, like, and trust us… when you strengthen the bond you will build loyalty.  This is critical to your Infinity Marketing Machine!

Question:  What’s the best way to create a tribe of Infinity Customers?

Answer: Today’s Inspiration.

1) Don’t chase people.
2) Be Yourself.
3) Do your own thing.
4) Work Hard.
RESULT: The “right” people will those that REALLY belong in your life (tribe) will come to you and stay!

People are attracted TO you.  Otherwise you become the “close talker” at the party that stuffs your business card in their pocket… you end up chasing them.  (and they run faster away from you… haha)

You want to attract people.  You want to attract customers.  You do this by being yourself and doing your own thing.  I love that you are here to read my post.  But if it annoys you that I write short paragraphs… use dot dot dot’s… and write conversation style.  Eventually, I’ll annoy you.

However… If you like my style, you’ll hang out, come back, and stay for a long time.

To transform a customer into an Infinity Customer. You need to make them want to stay.  This is accomplished by respecting them with information they desire that provides them insight in to YOU and makes them know, like, and trust you.

When this happens – they’ll stick around!  That’s the goal, create a tribe that wants to do business with you.
