TribeogyBlog.com – Episode 634 – When a 5 Star Hotel Rates a Three!

Quote: “No amount of money can buy someone credibility” – DMclaughlin

Monday: Subject Matter Expert

Becoming a Subject Matter Expert takes time and money.  BUT, money won’t buy your credibility.

Think about that.

It’s like taking photos of a hotel room at a 5 star hotel, putting them on your 3 star hotel’s website and rationalizing that, well, it LOOKS like we’re a 5 star hotel.

Great idea, until…

The guest that reserved your room shows up and BOOM they’re mad you lied.  Your hotel loses all credibility.

You tried to buy credibility with “nice” photos — it’s just too bad they were not YOUR photos.

If you had just been true to yourself and sold your best attributes you would have earned credibility.

It’s really that simple.

Time and information earns credibility — but if you short cut it by trying to buy your way it will backfire.

If in doubt, think of the hotel example!

Now that you know this little rule, what do you plan to do about it?  Will you take this information and create a post on Facebook or upload a video on Instagram?

Now’s your chance… get out there, put your time in, and share your brilliance. 🙂

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #621 – Building The Tribe Within Your Tribe

Quote: “When you let go of the ordinary, you make way for the priceless.”

Saturday: Try This

Loyalty programs are an “easy” way to build your tribe… and I say “easy” because the right program can make it a breeze.

If you don’t use the correct program… total headache. You’re not looking for a new job just a way to bond your vibe!

Now… here’s the deal.

It’s STILL fun to receive mail. And that’s where I wanted to show you the rewards program for our dog food store!

They print the rewards certificate inside the front cover of a fantastic news catalog brochure thingie.

Funny thing is… I JUST noticed the rewards coupon in January,

I’m a smart person… just sometimes not the most observant since Mr Pancake (best dog ever) is six.

Since my reward is around $40 a quarter… I’ve thrown away… roughly… $1000 – YIKES!

However… even though I’ve “missed” the rewards certificates… this is still a great idea and something important for our “try this” topic.

Why?

We all need to create “touch points” with our tribe – -look at this.  Once a quarter (most people look forward to the real money certificate) now I do, too….haha — but you have an audience WAITING for your communication.

AND

You give them valuable information.

This isn’t junk mail.

It’s something your tribe waits for and bonds with.

Here’s the deal… you don’t have to do this in depth of a publication to make it valuable.  Simpley using a rewards program AND giving valuable information associated with it naturally creates an “insiders” type of group — a tribe within your tribe.

Try This!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #615 – Are Your Pages on the Same Page?

Quote: “Be Extraordinary Enjoy the Ordinary”

Saturday: Try This!

So today’s “Try This!” tip is something I’m pretty familiar with because it’s at our marina.

A little later today we’re hosting an open house.  This is a great opportunity for our customers to visit the marina without having to take time off at this time of year.

However, it does pose a little problem because it’s winter and there is ice on the lake but we are selling summer recreation.

So what to do?

We put our boats from our Boat Club Fleet on display in our warehouse and invite people to visit.  But we go a little further to help explain the boats.

The reason we have discovered this little trick is that each boat has a “show piece” photo and that is the one that we use on every brochure.

when the customers visit it’s hard to visualize which boat is the one they love from the brochure because the boats are not floating and they are not “in action” driving.  By associating the boat with a photo, it reassures the customer they are looking at the boat they desire.

This helps build trust AND it helps build anticipation.

Look for opportunities where you can help bring the brochure or website to life in your store… I guess the simplest way is to keep profile photos current with human appearances.  If you were a heavy, dark haired, glasses wearing person and you lose weight highlight your hair and get contact lenses… meaning… you no longer look like your photo – Update it!

When your website matches your business you build trust.  So make sure all of your “pages” are on the same “page”.

Try This!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #604 – How Can a Smile Face Beach Ball be Considered Content?

Quote: “Go the Extra mile, it’s NEVER crowded”

Tuesday: Content and Consistency

Content is typically thought of as the words you speak or write… but then again we have photos so content doesn’t have to contain words.

So does content tell a story?  It can, but you can also create content that causes a vote… I mean, what else is a survey!

Your content is completely subjective and it’s about connection.  It could be through music or video.  There are lots of ways to create the connection you desire.

So what about your packaging.  Does packaging qualify as content.

Let me answer that with a question, have you ever seen an “unboxing”?

OH my we’ve actually created a word to describe the act of opening a package.

YIKES!

If there’s a word, you better pay attention to it.  So YES packaging is content, and it can create content.

The big difference you have over is this… you can create a personal connection via your packaging. Your vibe will translate through your thank you note, stickers, stuffing.

Amazon has that smile on the outside of the box, but typically nothing vibe worthy on the inside.

Therefore…this is an area you can knock your customers socks off!  I mean… here’s the deal… Amazon is affecting your pricing, you might as well capitalize on your vibe.  It will help with your return customers… I mean Infinity Customers!

Include a treat, a small momento, it could be a piece of candy, a rubber duck, a key chain.  It should not be expensive, it does not need to be a logo based item, but it must evoke your vibe.

Could you imagine if you sold movie memorabilia and inside the shipping box you included a bag of microwave popcorn with your thank you note?  That would be so cool!

I don’t have an online store associated with our marina.  I had one around 2006…  but if it were open right now, I’d include a thank you note and a smile face beach ball.  Why?  Our city has a smile face on the water tower and you can see the smile face on your way to our marina via the water!  AND it’s something you can use on the boat.

The smile face beach ball evokes emotion, becomes a vibe, and causes people to talk… it becomes your “no words needed” content.  If you include a hashtag sign in the box you’ll also receive social interaction.  Again, more content!  Gosh, this makes me want to open an online store for the boat yard!

Go the extra mile and think about what you can do as you expand your view of content!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #600 – Focus on the Future

Quote: “Focus for the future – achieve the unachievable!” JChan

FIRST:  OMG… 600 blog posts.  You guys, thank you so much for hanging out with me.  I love creating content to help all of us get better at tribe building.  When I set out on the adventure to write daily, I had my doubts, but now that I’m at 600 posts… that’s just CRAZY.  Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and your time, you’re the best!

Back to my post…

Thursday: Infinity Customer

It’s funny… Sometimes I forget to go back to basics when I talk to a newbie.  I had a woman that was looking for a way to market her Jewelry better.

So… I looked at her website and learned about her passion for volunteerism.  I suggested to build a PDF around previous volunteer activities she had participated in… things she actively did, places she’s gone…

Then she said, “Yeah, but would someone really be interested in that?”

That’s when I went back to the basics.  YES!  Someone you are attracting would have the same passion you would in volunteerism.  You want this person to buy from you and more important you want to serve this person.  This is your ideal “one and done” to “Infinity Customer” scenario.

Then I explained… I’m not your ideal customer.  haha

So today, I opened my email and had this message…

I’m like 2020?  What the heck… it’s February!  Why on earth would I want a 2020 calendar?

Guess What?  I’m not their ideal client!  BUT… it’s worth sending out the email because after seeing it I thought… well, I am planning to go to a conference in January, and one in March…and then I thought about putting my birthday in it!  All sorts of things that would make me want this product that at first glance I had no idea I wanted.

This is what is useful about email.  If you tell a story you can help your customer visualize how it will benefit them AND you do this from the perspective of Serving/Helping you will earn their trust and loyalty.

Don’t get stuck in the trap of putting your preconceived buying habits as the same as your customers.  Simply be the guide of helpfulness and move them down your path of products.  It’s a mind shift, but a profitable one!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #552 – Do You Have a Customer Loyalty Department?

“One loyal customer is worth ten satisfied customers.”

Thursday: Infinity Customers

I saw today’s quote and it stopped me.  I thought, “yeah… that’s right”.  We spend our days satisfying our customers.

Let’s visualize a restaurant.  The host seats us at a table, hopefully it’s the nicest in the room, and we are presented with menus.  The menus are carefully thought out to strategically have portion sizes, prices, and location in reading pattern to maximize profit.

Our server asks for a drink order, brings drinks. Asks for a food order.  Stops back to check on drinks.  Then brings food… well someone brings food – typically the food runner.  The server stops back and asks, “how is everything?”  If anything is wrong, this is the time to correct the issue.  Next we eat. The table is cleared. And a bill is presented.

The bill is paid. We go home.

Then what?

This is classic “one and done” business implementation.  There is advertising, people eat, they leave.

Now… you can have 10 satisfied customers that never come back.  OR would you rather have one loyal customer that comes back… over and over and over… till Infinity!

How to you gain loyalty?  You earn it.

Satisfied customers know you… but do they like and trust you?  As you build your tribe and actually give a poo about them.  Loyalty will happen.  In addition to building “buy in” – as a quick example, taking valuable space on the menu for your history helps.  You can also name the menu items creatively to your area or business.  On the table you may have a table tent that has more “love” to bond your customers and build loyalty.

The satisfied customer is like an assembly line.  Very predictable.  But the Loyal customer is like an event.  Full of life and energy.

Remember you want streamlined things in your business so you can be efficient… for example, at the restaurant food prep is streamlined.  It’s something that you want predictable, over and over.

Your customers are not a process, they are not to be streamlined.  Customers that transform to your tribe are loyal because remember, they bring life and energy to your vibe.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #534 – Don’t End Up in the Friends Zone!

“Wake up. Kick Ass. Repeat”

Thursday: Infinity Customer

Let’s Kick Ass!  I could say “kick butt” but I thought you’d all appreciate a little rough and tumble speak.

I changed the key word to butt for my baton group.  But regardless of the word, the sentiment remains the same.  Get up, take action, and do it again.

When it comes to our customers we want to get up, take action, and do it again.  We devote Tuesday to our Content and Consistency topic which helps us provide information for our customers that will build loyalty and transform them into a cohesive tribe.

So then what… you’ve got a tribe…

Well, don’t end up in the “friends zone”.  Gosh, I crack myself up with these analogizes but sometimes they are soooooo perfect.

You are in business to make money. But, tribeology cautions you to provide information and focus on loyalty and trust… so how do you get someone to be an infinity customer?  You have to offer items they want to buy!

Think about your tribe and share product offerings as you would sitting at the kitchen table talking to a friend.  If your friend would sitting there, you wouldn’t start rambling the features of the product, you’d talk about how it benefited you.

Focus on the benefits, successes, or how it changed YOUR life. As I say, products you OFFER to your tribe… not products you SELL to your tribe.

When you have your “kick ass” moment… learn from it… and repeat!  Be careful not to end up in the Friends Zone.
