Goals happen via a plan… so when the plan is interrupted, you quit. Right?

Wrong!

You adjust and keep going.  I know, that’s super simplistic but don’t give up on the big goal.  You may have set backs and the original plan may be detoured but look at the quote for today — tomorrow is a new day.

Oh wait, stole that from Scarlett O’Hara.

But it’s totally true.  When you’re having a bad day – or string of bad days… fear not, as long as you keep moving toward the goal – even if it’s moving sideways… you will attain it!   Yes, sometimes you take a step backward – and that’s OK, too.  Just keep your eye on the prize.

Tomorrow will happen.

Today’s quote spoke to me… I’m sure it’s tough to be a perfectionist, I’m far from one… but I do know this.

How do I know this?

Just read any post I’ve ever written. There are spelling errors, grammatical errors… the list goes on and on (no need to point them out, I know they’re there!)  But, the thing is… if I waited until it was perfect I would never press “publish”.

If I waited until it was perfect I would be scared to death to ever press “publish” and you know the problem with that…?  The problem is YOU would never get to read what I have to say… and that’s wrong.

The content you provide is a gift.  It’s an amazing gift for your tribe.  The moment you convince yourself “I’ve got nothing to write” that’s the moment you need to stop, sit, and reevaluate your leadership.  You are the leader and your tribe needs you…so what information do they need right now?

When you answer that question you’ll have plenty to write about!

Stop worrying about perfection, and start focusing on the needs of your tribe.

Today – create a post that your tribe needs!

Last Saturday I shared a simple “Try This”.  It was a soda machine that had a sign on it that said “new flavors” that the vendor just wrote in a marker the new options.

Simple, right?

Well… it’s so obvious that it’s often overlooked.

It’s important to keep the simplicity of this story in mind as you set out on building your subject matter expert status!

How is that possible?

The simplest things are often the best understood.  And as a subject matter expert you want to lead your tribe.  They need you!

BUT

They’ll never follow you if they have no idea what the heck you’re talking about.  Remember this.

It’s super easy to get too complicated.  Especially when it comes to your messaging.  Remember to focus on speaking the words your customers understand.  If it helps, talk about the emotion of your product, not the tech specs!

I often catch myself doing this when I talk about our Dry Stack Service.  See… I just did it!  What the heck is Dry Stack?

We’re a marina and instead of keeping your boat in the water at a dock, we store it in a warehouse, on a custom built rack.  We can stack them three high using a really big forklift.  It’s very cool.  But that’s where “Dry Stack” comes from…

Well, knowing the product as well as I do, I realized I was talking about launch times, hours, cleanliness of boat — and no one cared!  Sure, visitors were polite… but what really resonated was what THEY understood.

Family time, memories, and easy.  They call.  They pack their cooler. They get in the boat.  That’s it.

We do the heavy lifting (all puns intended)

When I started talking about all the summer photos that could be hanging on THEIR living room wall.  That’s when I got my message simple, understandable, and relatable.  That’s when THEY started to listen to all of my “complicated” jargon about how the dry stack service works.  That’s when it was important to be a subject matter expert.

But first I had to learn to get simple.

Keep it simple.  Increase sales with this simple idea.

Make a sign — put it by your product.

Yep… this week is that simple.

OK, there’s a little more to my explanation.  In my opinion we are making things too difficult. You are trying to figure out when when to post, how many times to post, and what to post – and you forget you’re in business to SELL.

I went to pick up new shoes the other day.  It’s not what you think, I was on a parts run and needed new brake shoes for a trailer.

That brought me from the city desk to the will call and right next to the will call was a pop machine (remember I’m from Minnesota).

Did you see what’s on the pop machine?  That snazzy high tech announcement of new products.  It’s a pre-made half sheet of paper that had blank lines that you write new flavors on.

That’s it.  Scotch tape (remember I’m from Minnesota), a marker, and a sign.  Hang it in the area you’re drawing attention to.

It really doesn’t get much simpler!

Increase sales… now.  Look around your office/business/website and draw attention.  You can even make the sign, take a photo, and post the photo online – I know that’s a little more complicated.

BUT

Focus on increasing sales!

Because today is “Big Money Small Change Day” and I’m here to prove a point. (get it)

Share your personality!

The one thing that’s the hardest point (haha) to get across to people when they start their Infinity Marketing Machine… especially when they are “old school” meaning they grew up loving anything John Hughes… the hardest point in your writing is to share your personality.

I’m not kidding (well I am, see… I’m a smart alec)

But my point (again.. haha) is that you need to share your personality through your posts and writing. This is difficult for those that did graduate in the 80s because we were taught to write within strict parameters.

In fact, we did not have fun.

I like to write with… (dot dot dots) and USE ALL CAPS – I even make up words.  But this is my personality.  If you love the 80s, and have zany personality with puns, etc… then follow me — because this is your tribe.

NOW… outside of actually telling you to follow me — you should feel comfortable reading someone else’s post and think… yeah that person is pretty cool… I think I “get” them.

And this is what spurred my magical post…

GET IT?  There are LOTS of yoga studios.  Depending on your style, you could be earthy, trendy, retro, intense, peaceful… but there is a studio for you that matches you.

I was flipping through my posts on Instagram and this video of this ornery “cat” caught my attention.  The “kitty” looks angry… then it strikes at the camera.

The caption is perfect.

IF you “get” this post – you want to do yoga with her… You want to be a part of her tribe.  I don’t do yoga but I totally understand her!

This is the easiest way to attract your tribe — be yourself in your posts, show your personality and if you’re a grouchy kitty — embrace it!

If you’re worried about mastering tomorrow, here’s a clue – you won’t.  You can’t master tomorrow because it’s tomorrow.  The only thing you can do is master today and then repeat.

Work in the present.  Be Present.  And Repeat.

What does this have to do with your Infinity Marketing Machine?

You do not have to master the entire Infinity Marketing Machine, today… but you do need to put 100% effort into it today.

Just like I mentioned above you can’t master tomorrow… you can’t master your Infinity Marketing Machine tomorrow… you’ve got to do it today.

If you’re working on a post to drive traffic to your freemium…. do it with 100% effort – master it.

If you’re working on creating the freemium… do it with 100% effort… master it.

If you’re sending that email — press send with all the confidence that your message is going to bond the tribe to you.

There are lots of moving parts to the Infinity Marketing Machine.  It’s a constant work in progress.  As with anything though, you’ve got to focus on today and give it 100% of everything you’ve got.

The ability to transform your customers from “one and done” to “infinity” happens everyday… it’s not something you perfect tomorrow, the perfection comes today.

And then you repeat. repeat. repeat.

So today – get out there and do one thing that helps bond you to your tribe.  And then repeat!
