Episode #67 – Patience, Waiting and a Good Attitude… but My Free App is Ready – install at SmallBusinessClubApp.com

We have all had to wait in line for the person ahead of us with the “world’s dumbest question” to finish, haven’t we?!?!  Well, maintaining a good attitude is the best course of action, it gives you something to focus on.

OK, here’s the strangest metaphor I can come up with… my dog, Mr. Pancake, loves to bark at everything.  I mean everything.  His trainer taught him to “stay” and he stops barking.  Why?  Well, he has to focus on something else.  All of his energy is focused on “stay” and he cannot bark.  And really it’s teaching him patience.

If you focus on having a good attitude while being patient, it will help you, too.  Watch this some time while you wait in line… if you see the cranky person, they spiral out of control with a bad attitude, while the happy person maintains a good attitude.  And really, who do you want to be more like?

Business is all about patience, you wait for proofs, deliveries, employees… the better your attitude while you wait, the happier you’ll be.

That brings me to my new app!  YEA!!!!  It’s Here! It’s Here! It’s Here!

In a true test of my patience, where I did my best to maintain the most positive attitude, after 5 months of waiting for Apple to approve it, it’s finally in the App store.   I have no idea why it was rejected 4 times… other than it just got caught in some strange cyber loop OR I was being forced to practice patience (haha).  But it’s here!!!

Go install it… smallbusinessclubapp.com

Tell your friends that own business to install it too… the more people joining, the better this thing is going to rock!

Episode #41 – Choose the Voices in Your Head

You Become Like the 5 People You Spend the Most Time With… make a plan to get the influence of other business owners from networking, business clubs, and books.  it’s time to choose the voices in your head wisely!  For example, if you spend time with your clients for 8 to 10 hours a day, and you run a day care filled with 3 years olds, recognize this!  It does affect you.  Entrepreneurship can take lots of your time and soon you realize you’re isolated.  Get the right voices in your head.  Again, a powerful way to do this by joining business clubs, networking, and even through books or articles.

Action Step:
-Develop a plan to connect with other small business owners, whether in person, through mastermind groups, business clubs or even books you read.  You need to continue to get the entrepreneurial inspiration in your head!

Episode #40 – Winning is a Habit

Get in a winners mindset! Habits are a funny thing, you can have good habits and bad habits. While habits bring a downward spiral… good habits spiral up!  Today you need to get in the habit of winning. I want you to start by setting a goal and accomplishing it.  Just one goal, just one task to accomplish, everything else is a bonus.  You see… winning takes time, commitment, planning, and follow through.  It’s the same energy you put into your business everyday!  You just might not think of it as winning when you are unloading inventory, writing payroll checks, or vacuuming the display floor.  All of those tasks create your winning atmosphere for your business.

Action Step
– Today focus on one goal, just one thing you want to get done. Start your habit of goal accomplishment!

Episode #39 – Keep Up the Enthusiam

When you have enthusiasm it sets your business apart from the rest. As the leader you set the tone. Others will gain momentum from your enthusiasm and that’s pretty powerful!

Your big advantage as a local business is the ability to have your enthusiasm transfer to the people surrounding you… think about it, you’ve had interactions with both huge companies and small businesses, which one can you feel the excitement of the owner?  I mean, buying muffins at a local bakery where you can feel the love and artistry of the product is much different from prepackaged muffins in a box, right?  🙂

Action Step:
-Keep up your Enthusiasm

Episode #38 – Don’t Look Back

Focus on your goal. Keep moving toward your goal. That means don’t get stuck looking backward at an old situation or a “it used to be done like that”.  I hear lots of people say, “I used to just put an ad in the newspaper and that’s all I had to do to get customers” — that is true, but does that help you today?  To get the results you used to get with newspaper ads you have to become the newspaper (and create content) – it’s different.  but don’t look back, keep moving forward and keep your eyes on the prize!

Ask Better Questions

Did you fall?  Clearly the person is on the ground…

What happens when you start to ask better questions?  Earlier this week I had the opportunity to listen to a customer on the phone with his credit card company.  He spent over 10 minutes, calm as can be, until the problem was resolved.  When he was finished I asked, “what job are you professionally trained at… you never got mad”.  His answer surprised me.  He didn’t say psychology, police officer or clergy.  He instead told me a story.

His mother raised him with the belief that he only has so many “get mads” in life. Each time a situation arises he asks himself “do I want to use a ‘get mad’ on this?”

I asked a different question and received a beautiful story.

Action step
-Start asking better questions.  You already know the person fell…
