TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #590 – How are Car Washes and Ballpoint Pens the Same?

Quote: “You paid for the whole show”

Saturday: Try This!

The quote for today is one I use regularly.  In the summer we rent boats and we have several regular customers.  They come in a couple times a week.

The process to check out a boat is to listen to our orientation to the boat operation.  Well, when you’ve seen it a couple times, you’ve seen it.

However, we need to go over it each time.  It’s like the take off speech we’ve seen on a plane.   Even though you’ve seen it, you need to see it again.

I use the phrase, “you’ve paid for the whole show…” and then I finish the speech quickly.

Well… that makes me think.

What is your show?  What do you do at your business OR what CAN you do at your business to cross the line from a traditional service to a “wow factor” show?

Here was my trip to the “fancy” car wash.

First the entire process is featured with the floor to ceiling windows… but then look above the window, my car was getting the special service for clear coat.

This car wash business has turned their standard service into an experience.  You EXPERIENCE the car wash.

One very easy way I do this, and it’s SUPER easy… something you can do, too.

Make your “sign up” process special.  When you sign a new client, or sign an new contract… have an engraved pen.  Honestly, they are not expensive.  But you make the process a BIG DEAL.  They sign and you give them the pen.

It’s fun, it’s simple, it’s memorable… it’s a show.

Think of the car wash… do the pen.

Try This!

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode 464 – Go Live, Get Pearls!

Saturday: Try This!

Go Live!

Ok, it’s not exactly what you think… but we’ll get to the thing you are thinking of!

EPCOT at Disney World is kind of a cool place. I like the International Showcase. I was a student in Japan for a semester and the EPCOT version is pretty true to real which makes me believe the other countries are realistic, too.

The last time I was at EPCOT I noticed a new attraction. Inside the Japan shopping store (which really is like the department stores in Japan) – they had a cool, live, interactive feature of finding a pearl in an oyster.

I noticed it because of all the people standing around watching… well, that made me need stop and watch!

The excitement of just opening the oyster to see the treasure inside is fun enough, but the addition of an overhead video monitor to “see for yourself” when you’re standing behind a row of three deep people is… thoughtful.

It’s worth considering as a business in the recretainment industry (any industry specializing in recreation or entertainment) you need to add a live feature.  The oyster/video monitor is a wonderful example.

Back to my original “Live” hint… you can use live on a social platform, too.  How?  Anytime you take the opportunity to communicate with your audience in a “real time” fashion is… cool.  Could you imagine getting a lunch time view of the beach at your favorite resort?  That would be amazing!

Use your creativity and add an experience!

“People are hungry for stories. It’s part of our very being” Studs Terkel

Oh my… what a long day at the marina!  There was a “big” party on our lake… That meant I made four calls to 911 and two actual visits from the police to our marina.  (And it’s a Tuesday! UGHHHH)   I’d share more of the stories… but let’s just leave it at the question, “Is it necessary to puke on our front lawn?”

Again… I’m still here!  I’m just taking a mini-blog-break.  More info soon… 🙂

Episode #342 – Is a T-shirt a Digital Product?

“Little things add up and become big things.”

Friday!  Time to figure out what you can do to make money by creating a small change.  I’m writing a brief about some of the changes I created last summer.  The funny thing I realized is that some very small things had big impact.

One thing I had a fun experience with was our BoatPhotoDay.com

I think you should try this.  Well… maybe not with a boat and a forklift… haha!

But here’s what we did.  We created an online store that sold different digital products such as mugs, T shirts, and bags.  What? Digital products.  YES.  These products do not actually exist until you order them. We do not carry inventory!

You can do this if you have an interactive audience based business.  For our marina, customers love to see their boat on the forklift.  Well… why not take a photo of each boat while it’s on the forklift.  Sure, it took time.  But that’s a matter of logistics.

The next part is fun.  We used an online service that creates the T shirts, etc… and all we had to do was generate sales.  We did this via email.  I utilized my #1 tactic which is to find a product to sell to my list.  THIS is how the Infinity Marketing Machine works.   You create products your list wants!

So there you have it.  Today’s “big money small change” tip is… find a way to take a photo for your customer and offer to create it into a shirt!  It does not require inventory… it makes you money.  YEA!

Episode #337 – It’s a Chalk Board, It’s a Clip Board, No It’s a Calendar!

If you’ve got a large wall space, this is a great idea!  If you’ve got a small wall space, it’s still a great idea, you just might need to modify it.

I was leaving the grocery store and I saw this really cool large wall calendar!  It’s awesome.  The clip boards hang on nails… that means you can just move the clip boards around each month.  The clip boards are chalk… so you can write the numbers on them, or the holiday…  and finally, they’re clip board!  You can put coupons or fliers on special days, too!

It just seems like a very creative way to make your in store promotions personalized!

I said early on that if you don’t have a big wall space you’d need to modify… you might utilize this for a special of the week or other centralized customer information location — it’s just a great way to draw attention and regularly update, without being really expensive!

Give it a try.
