So this is what I’m talking about!

As we’re learning the basic foundation of the Infinity Marketing Machine — step one is character/credibility.  Look at this photo and ask yourself, “Where is a good place to get Sunday Brunch?”

When you compete for local awards… even the ones that seem “easy” to win, they can make a big impact if you utilize the skills of Award Marketing.

Award Marketing is something I came across, quite by accident.  It was after our marina won National Marina of the Year and it has to do with using your award, title, and honor for purposes of public exposure.

Well… take another look at the photo.

Clearly this restaurant won an award for the best Sunday Brunch.  Now we don’t ask our selves who sponsored the contest, how many people competed, was the criteria including bacon… or just eggs… no we just say, “I’m hungry – that looks like a fantastic place to eat breakfast – they were voted best brunch, so other people think they’re great… let’s go eat!”

I was flipping through my feed and came across this post and a couple ideas came to mind.

A couple ideas that you can keep in mind as you look for free things to implement that will increase your sales.

If you remember going to a Blockbuster “back in the day” – you’ll remember a couple things… spending up to an hour to pick the best movie.  Think about that… you spent time at a store deciding what movie you were going to watch.

Now we binge watch on our phones.

It was an event!

The first comment on this post stopped me in my tracks… she said it was an event and it really was.

Make your shopping experience “an event” – the words you use in your post are the equivalent to walking around a Blockbuster and dreaming about the best movie you want to see.

You read a post and get drawn into the details. If done well, you will imagine yourself using the product… much like when you picked up a video and thought about the people you would watch the movie with and what a great time it would be…

Then you walked by the candy and popcorn… and soda! You could almost taste the popcorn!  Sell things that make the product you are selling a complete experience.  Take it to the next level and by all means make it easy for your customer.

What goes with a movie… popcorn! If you sell a product with a natural product pair – sell it.

So that’s two great ideas for free from this one post… create an event and make it easy for your customer by selling the companion products!

Keep it simple.  Increase sales with this simple idea.

Make a sign — put it by your product.

Yep… this week is that simple.

OK, there’s a little more to my explanation.  In my opinion we are making things too difficult. You are trying to figure out when when to post, how many times to post, and what to post – and you forget you’re in business to SELL.

I went to pick up new shoes the other day.  It’s not what you think, I was on a parts run and needed new brake shoes for a trailer.

That brought me from the city desk to the will call and right next to the will call was a pop machine (remember I’m from Minnesota).

Did you see what’s on the pop machine?  That snazzy high tech announcement of new products.  It’s a pre-made half sheet of paper that had blank lines that you write new flavors on.

That’s it.  Scotch tape (remember I’m from Minnesota), a marker, and a sign.  Hang it in the area you’re drawing attention to.

It really doesn’t get much simpler!

Increase sales… now.  Look around your office/business/website and draw attention.  You can even make the sign, take a photo, and post the photo online – I know that’s a little more complicated.

BUT

Focus on increasing sales!

Ahhhh Good Morning!  I know… I broke my consistency rule.  Typically this post comes out 3 hours earlier.

Normally I write the post the evening before – but last night I was in an incredibly distracted — OK not good mood.  NOTHING good would have come from writing, so I went to bed.

Sometimes you need to evaluate your mood and if it breaks consistency – it breaks consistency.

That being said, I woke up refreshed and found a “Cash” topic right away…

Look at this great example from the Chamber of Commerce in Wisconsin…  It had this beautiful gazebo with flowers.  It looks so pretty.

The caption is great and invites you to visit the area!

Then I noticed something cool.

Below the photo are blue dots indicating more photos – so I swiped.

The next photo is also from the town — but it’s a chalk message from the sidewalk from a group that celebrated “girls weekend”

I thought, “how cool is this?”

The first photo shows how beautiful the town is — the second photo suggests a reason to visit…

Then I swiped again.

There were more photos!

I got to this one that showed a sidewalk sign for a sale at a store!

Amazing!

They were able to show that there are cute stores without being all “bargain bargain bargain” salesy!  Is “salesy” a word?  It is now!

I guess what I’m saying is that this post is one that tells a story of the product, in this case the chamber’s product is the town… it does it through photos…

Think about this as you promote your business.

Use the one sentence to plant the seed “what plans are you making this weekend?” a photo to stop their attention – then back up the question with photo suggestions of how the customer can answer the question!

Start a new profit center… and start it small.

Earlier this year I noticed this place card on the table at the restaurant and just had to share it.  In a area where you would expect to find the “special of the day” or a list of drinks you have an advertisement for swag!

This is a restaurant that’s enhanced it’s revenue with a new and unrelated profit center.  They sell food… and T Shirts.

AND they tell you about it during the time you’re most captivated.  There aren’t many times you actually read anything put in front of you other than waiting in line for a bathroom… right?!

So, there are TWO take-aways from this week’s “Try This” — one, add a new profit center, and two, promote things in the areas of your business where you have a captive audience.

Here’s a small and sweet idea — COOKIES!  Learn from this amazing idea.  Not that you want to bake cookies, although I always think that is a great idea. 🙂

I’m talking about what’s on the cookies.

This week is the National Baton Twirling Championships.  Most people don’t follow baton twirling, but I do! I competed for about 20 years and now, with social media, it’s a blast to continue to watch what is happening in my sport.

And then there were cookies…

This popped up on my feed a couple days ago.  It’s from the local Target.  The bakery, knowing that baton nationals are in town, decided to make frosted sugar cookies with adorable baton designs on them!

Lots and lots of people go to Target – even on vacation.

This is such an amazing idea figure out how to make this small change at your business.  How can you “welcome” an outside event visiting your area to buy from you?

These are ordinary sugar cookies, with ordinary frosting — but designed with simple words they become extraordinary!

What do you sell?

Funny question- but really think about it.  I was eating pizza and took a look at the box.

At first glance I thought the box was pretty cool because it took a very impressive piece of “real estate” and used it to create a vibe of the company in my living room.

That alone is a valuable lesson… use the bag or box as the place to share your story and create your vibe.

But let’s go back to my initial point… what do you sell?

Now look at the box…

You have pizza

OR

Do you have dough, vegetables, cheese, meats, sauce, and the bonus?

When you sell something – break it down!  Show the value of all the working pieces that together make the one singular thing you sell!

This is your “try this” moment.

More often than not, your item you sell is actually a “package” deal, sell these items!  Share the benefits and how they work together to make your “one” product superior.
