TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #594 – How Can a Blizzard Be A Customer Reward?

Quote: “No matter how much is spent, visiting a business must be rewarded.”

Thursday: Infinity Customer

So we’re having a little blizzard here today in Minnesota… that really has nothing to do with this blog except I’m very tired of snow (and it’s only February) – and yet the snow keeps coming. We were very close to breaking the all time snowiest February, so as long as you’re that close you might as well beat the record, right?

Record broke. Now I’m over it.

However, I’ve had two great posts today with nice engagement because of the snow. I’ve also got a little Summer Fever going on with the weather – so weather can be a great draw for your business. But, you need to plan ahead. I’ve already got the following on Facebook and on my email so it’s easy for me to do a quick interruption to their day to just say “hi” and lead the group in a joint complaint about the weather.

That’s what I want you to be able to do to. When you plan ahead and build a list of customers that know, like, and trust you… you’ll be able to complain about the weather with them! Haha

Here’s my real point.

When you have a business in the real world and you customers stop by you are able to have a dialog. With them, IN PERSON. They walk in your door, shake off the snow, and you can comment on the weather.

When you’re online, you need to take a proactive step and send out a “one sided” thought about the weather. Think of it like they did actually just step in your store and you’re commenting… and ice breaker so to speak.

This is how you reward customers for visiting you online.

It seems funny that a “complaint” about the weather is a reward and yet… there it is. When we complain about the weather it gives us something to bond about.

Granted, one of my posts was for a nationwide following, and it still worked. Why? Because there are active TV news reports about the Snowmageddon we are having here in Minnesota. This can actually be MORE impactful because someone sitting in Florida will show their co-worker the photo, or even share with their friends because they have a “local” connection.

It’s all about making connections.

You can and must make connections with your online visitors. If you have a website, give them an area to come back to again and again… this is a blog. A place of new information.

If you ship merchandise, reward them with a note or small gift. Do something to wow them. This is how you reward!

Rewarding can be bad weather, new information, or even a gift. But never silence. So just because there are no door bells alerting you to a visitor doesn’t mean you’re off the hook for reward marketing.

It actually will separate you from the rest of your competition and is one of the best ways to build your infinity customer.

Show them love!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #590 – How are Car Washes and Ballpoint Pens the Same?

Quote: “You paid for the whole show”

Saturday: Try This!

The quote for today is one I use regularly.  In the summer we rent boats and we have several regular customers.  They come in a couple times a week.

The process to check out a boat is to listen to our orientation to the boat operation.  Well, when you’ve seen it a couple times, you’ve seen it.

However, we need to go over it each time.  It’s like the take off speech we’ve seen on a plane.   Even though you’ve seen it, you need to see it again.

I use the phrase, “you’ve paid for the whole show…” and then I finish the speech quickly.

Well… that makes me think.

What is your show?  What do you do at your business OR what CAN you do at your business to cross the line from a traditional service to a “wow factor” show?

Here was my trip to the “fancy” car wash.

First the entire process is featured with the floor to ceiling windows… but then look above the window, my car was getting the special service for clear coat.

This car wash business has turned their standard service into an experience.  You EXPERIENCE the car wash.

One very easy way I do this, and it’s SUPER easy… something you can do, too.

Make your “sign up” process special.  When you sign a new client, or sign an new contract… have an engraved pen.  Honestly, they are not expensive.  But you make the process a BIG DEAL.  They sign and you give them the pen.

It’s fun, it’s simple, it’s memorable… it’s a show.

Think of the car wash… do the pen.

Try This!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 584 – Make Marketing Magic!

Quote: “Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it!”

Saturday: Try This

There’s magic, everywhere.  Even at a bag in the middle of the boat show.

I love Satuday’s because it’s “try this” day… and it doesn’t mean you have to do exactly what others are doing. But it’s time to see the magic in how other business do something so you might be “sparked” to a new idea.

It’s fun to learn about your own industry, see what the competition is doing, and take action accordingly.  Well this isn’t one of those times, this is time to look at a completely different industry.

We’re looking at the boat canvas cover manufacturering industry.  Told you, completely unrelated!

This company exhibits at the boat show to gain new business.  They repair and make new covers for boats.

Here’s the magic.

Over the course of the year they collect their scraps.  You know, they take a giant rectangle and cut into the shape of a boat and that makes scraps.

They form the scraps into bags and sew!

Look at these amazing duffel bags for $10.00 – no two are alike, and they don’t look like remnants. But they are creating quite a following. People seek out their booth to get an amazing bag.

Normally the scraps are thrown away.  But with a little magic they have taken on a life of their own.

This is what you need to be on the look out for in your business. What is it that you throw away that is really a treasure?  I’d love to know how you create magic!  Use the comments and chat away.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #579 – Are You an Underwear Expert?

Quote:  “Even the Genius asks Questions.”

Monday – Subject Matter Expert

Just because you wear underwear does not make you an underwear expert!  Remember this.

Now… why on earth is this my lead?  Because, I was reading a request in an online group about “how do I improve my traffic to my site?”

Backstory… the site was a lingerie site.  Now, the owner of the site was perplexed that “to date” there have been zero sales.  I went to look at it and the site is nice, actually really nice… it looked like many other sites out there.

And that’s the problem.  Most retail sites look like every other site.  There is nothing too spectacular about them.  And with traditional marketing… you’ve got a couple P’s to be aware of… four actually.  They are Price, Place, Product, and Promotion.

SO where does this leave us and the underwear site… well, if it looks like every other site it doesn’t do any of the 4 P’s with excitement.

That’s why Tribeology is critical to “new marketing” – you must be able to cultivate your own customers and transform them into a tribe.  This tribe will have loyalty and buy from YOU… the reason they buy from you is the reason we have a “Monday “C” Character” topic!

If you are selling underwear, you must be an expert at underwear!  You will build a niche among a tribe of underwear loving customers.  You’ll understand fit, fashion, fabric, function, and fun!  You’ll create who your ideal customer is and attract them with your knowledge via a blog, vlog, or podcast.  This really works.

It’s hard to explain to someone that you need to attract traffic in order to build a tribe and yet at the same time the problem is they can’t attract traffic… it’s much like our dreaded “which came first, the chicken or the egg” scenario.

But as you are building and living the 5 C’s… The critical piece you will control is you!  You can continue to educate yourself and share your knowledge AND position yourself as a Subject Matter Expert that customers are attracted to.

So when you find yourself asking the question,  “how do I get more people to buy things from my site?”  Answer that question, by asking this question… “would I actually buy something from my site?”

Be Honest.

Do you want to do a financial transaction or a friendship transaction?

Remember, people want to do business with people, not businesses.  So make sure your expertise is shared on the site and that you personalize the experience for your visitors.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 576 – Learn the The Best Secret of Infinity Products

Quote:  “Limits only exist in the mind”

Thursday: Infinity Customer

Welcome to today’s fourth C!  We’re talking about customers and mixing it up with infinity… and I have been very excited to share this story with you.

On Sunday I was at the boat show, working the booth for our family marina… and the show was winding down.  I had talked with a “mover and shaker” in the industry over at her booth and I said, “if you need a speaker for your conference… I’d love to speak!”

We had a great conversation about marketing.

Here’s the fun part… I explained what all of you already know… I explained infinity products.  Her assistant was sitting there and her eyes got really big when I told her about my ice blue sweatshirts.

My ice blue sweatshirts were a promo I did last week on Pontoon Girl.  I said, I created a “blue theme” and offered the sweatshirt as a part of the fun.  And yes… a I sold a few.

So the assistant said, so that’s good, how do you pick what sizes to have in stock.

This is the “eyes get big” secret.

I said, “I don’t have inventory”.  As all of you know, infinity products are AMAZING.  I created the design and sold the concept.

Here’s the actual promotional piece…

So I explained, that you don’t need inventory when you practice infinity products online, you can actually conceptualize the idea and sell it.  If it doesn’t sell, go back to the drawing board and try something else.  But when it does work… it’s super fun.

Here’s the actual product!  I took a photo of one of the ordered sweatshirts before I shipped it to the customer.  Now, I have a “real” product photo.

Now my job continues to infinity!  I just get to sell it over and over… and the color rocks!  It’s super pretty.  My favorite!

Your turn, there are many many design websites out there where you can conceptualize a product and sell it to your email list.

Did you catch that?  Sell to YOUR email list.  You’ve got to cultivate your tribe via an email list.  Creating products your list wants to buy via Infinity Products makes all of your hard work rewarding.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #567 – Proud Member of Shawn’s Tribe

“Greatness Looks Good On You” LReid

Monday: Subject Matter Expert

A new week!  New opportunities to boast about yourself.

Seriously, it is.  Today is Subject Matter Expert Day and we need to focus on positioning ourselves as the expert we are.

Again, sometimes this may seem difficult because we’re often taught not to talk about our accomplishments.

However, would you like to get surgery from the doctor that graduated from Medical School and hangs the diploma on the wall… or…

I can’t even come up with an “or” haha

But you see my point we really don’t get the opportunity to watch a surgeon in action, therefore, we rely on diplomas, articles in journals, word of mouth from others that have had the surgery by this doctor.

So how about your business, what can you do to position yourself as an expert of the “thing” that you do or sell.  After all, someone is giving you money for that “thing” so it’s best to be the expert in the transaction!

The reason I bring this up is I received a very clever representation of positioning yourself.

The salesperson of my most recent car purchase sent me (well, his email list) a two page PDF that was an announcement of his new location at the car dealership.  It included his mission statement, commitment to customers, and his awards.

Short story.  I am the WORST car buyer.  I just hate the whole process and everything about it.

This last car purchase was over 2 years in the “internal” process… I went back and forth on what I wanted… shopped online, rarely went anywhere to visit a car… it was more of a quest.

SO… I found the car, it was slightly over budget… I figured I’d drive there, test drive it… and go away for another 6 months.

Then I met Shawn.  I actually uttered “crap” under my breath.  I knew from the moment he walked toward me that I was going to buy the car.  Don’t ask me why… I have no idea, but something about that encounter was just different.

And I bought the car.

Now here’s the funny thing about Shawn… I knew he was good at his job, as represented on the test drive and the 7 trophies on the shelf behind his desk for top sales.  OR when you wandered over to the waiting area and found brass plate after brass plate on plaque after plaque with his name as top sales for the quarter.

But his humble PDF mentioned in one sentence that he achieved top sales nationwide.

That’s Shawn.

Sometime, when you get a moment, write up your PDF to your customers and just send it out.  It’s OK, we can talk about ourselves.

You see, I’m part of Shawn’s Tribe and I’m proud of it.

Your customers will feel the same way – your excellence elevates your tribe.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #558 – Nerd Party!

Quote: “Possibilities do not add up. They multiply!”

Thursday: Infinity Customer

The fourth “C” of the Infinity Marketing Machine is Customer, more specifically Infinity Customer. This is a person that joins your tribe and stays.  They are very loyal and purchase items “over and over and over”.  We like Infinity Customers.

Now… the thing to keep in mind is this… Your Infinity Customer can leave at any time, so don’t neglect your relationship.

It’s important that the information you provide is useful… but the other thing that is important is that you provide items they want to buy!

I was looking on Pinterest a couple days ago and came across this!

Can you see why this is important for us to study?

This is an Infinity Product!  Remember, the infinity product is one that can be replicated over and over.  But I really like this because it’s niche based.  If you had a business of nerds as your base.  This is your product!

T Shirts for science loving introverts that apparently don’t like pants.  haha

But look at the significance.  It’s a gray shirt with different words under a common theme that is niche based.

YES.

Learn from this product – because as you want to make money and seek that $1/per month per person on your email list, the infinity product is critical to your success.

Next Step… sit down and brainstorm your niche and the type of product that is desired from your group, then provide it!  If needed, throw them a nerd party!
