Yesterday I ended my day by balancing our cash register.  I found a penny from 1954.   I started my day on a tour of our local Amazon Fulfillment center… fascinated by the robots.

OK… let me get this out of my system

Robots are freekin cool.

OMG.  If you’ve ever thought about automating your business – then visiting a company tour where they’ve done this is like an amusement park for your mind.

The products come in the door, there are plenty of humans to support the robots — but dang.  They just keep going – I kind expected the Energizer Bunny to pop from around the corner banging that drum!

He did not… but here’s the deal.

The tour was great.

I saw the future… here now.

I saw the possibilities of how to make the future happen now.

AND I also got a photo and water bottle.

My cousin invited me to go on this tour… I joked, the last tour we went on together was in 2nd grade.  Our elementary school was 2 blocks from Tonka Toys… every child received a cute doonbuggy for visiting.

Amazon had awesome water bottles!

OK – not that that’s the reason to visit or even have a tour.

But they built this facility as a showcase for the tour.  Here’s why it’s important for you to learn from Amazon on our Big Money Small Change Day… the first stop on the tour was a hallway.  It was outside a class room.

That’s when the tour guide, Tony, told us about the education benefit for being an Amazon employee… it’s VERY good. Then he told us about the maternity benefit… it also is VERY good.

WHY do they do this?

Because they love their company and those on a tour are potential employees.

The tour is your showcase of your business.

When the tour ended we learned an interesting historical reference and symbolic tribute to the founder that is in every building.  It was cool.

Then we went downstairs and they had a photo booth set up.  This how they encouraged social sharing.

Why?

Because cameras are NOT allowed on the tour.  Yet… they did not miss out on this important social opportunity.

Now… you are not Amazon, so what can you learn from this?

Showcase your business.  You can showcase it online.  Share your history.  Share your future.  Share a gift… and by all means include a way to share it on social media.

Last night I was winding down my 4th of July and as so many of us do… I was surfing my social media.

Then I noticed something…  while the 4th of July is the  same holiday for everyone, it can create unlimited possibilities when you post a traditional… “Happy 4th of July” message.

Look at these…

They all have the same message — but these were some of my favorites because they capture the spirit of the holiday AND the business….

There’s a dance studio, boating, waterpark, gymmnastics club, home decor, and dog breeder.

It’s great!  Look at how creative others get and do the same — the next holiday that comes up, really think of how you can mix your business vibe with that of the holiday.

It seems small – but it’s an impact that really affects your tribe and builds your loyalty!

Plan ahead.

We’ve heard that before and regularly follow the advice, but… then thre’s are the times we think, hummmm if only I had done that.

That’s what I’m trying to help you avoid.

I’m using Subject Matter Expert to help illustrate this “plan ahead” concept.

Let’s say you want to make $100 dollars by the end of the day.  How will you do it?

If you had an email list, you could create an offer and send it out to your customers.  IF you have done the daily work in providing information they desire, presented in a fun, engaging and exciting manner, your success rate would rise.

IF you did this from the position as a subject matter expert your success would be even higher!

Now let’s get personal.  How many are on “your list” – that’s the phrase we use to describe your email list.  How many email addresses do you have?  1,000?  400?  10? zero?  Zero but you know you can get 7 by the end of the day?

If you have 7 you better have an outstanding relationship to earn $100!

Next question… how many posts have you created in the last month?  30?  20?  8? None? — The more frequent and outstanding your information, the better your credibility!

When your tribe is ready to hear from you and expect your message, you will be much more successful in gaining the privilege of “getting” that $100.

Is this making sense?

If you want to make $100 by the end of the day… and YOU have a list… And YOU have put the time into sharing information with your tribe… YOU have the ability to send out an email and make money.

You could wake up today and think… hummm… look at these 5 T shirts, I want to get rid of them, I know there are 5 people on my list of 400 that want them… here’s an email!

This is like creating your very own ATM machine.

It’s not free, it’s not without work, but it is the real deal.

TODAY, start!  Make one post, collect one email.

If you do this every day — next week you will have 7 email addresses AND 7 posts.  In two weeks you’ll have 14 posts, and 14 email addresses… OMG, by August 1 you’ll have 31 posts and 31 emails!

Imagine how many you’d have by Christmas?  177 posts and 177 email addresses…

This will greatly improve YOUR opportunity to “wake up and decide to make $100”

This is why it’s super important to position yourself as a Subject Matter Expert… it gives you the freedom to make a list, build a tribe, and share information — it’s so you can enhance your business as the leader of the topic – and so you can say, “cool, today I’d like $100” — think if you did that every day?  $700/week or $2,800 a month… that woudl be amazing!

Alrightie – go do it… start with ONE.

PS:  did you see that you’ve only got 177 shopping days until Christmas?  HAHAHA

Having trouble with positioning yourself as a Subject Matter Expert?  Sometimes its because it feels strange to “brag”.  I assure you this is not bragging.

This is about building trust.

You need to build trust online and this is the most effective way to do this.  Here’s why… when you meet someone in person you have the advantage of picking up on non-verbal ques.  You can see the way they smile, the way they use eye contact, and even how they shake your hand.  But online you’ve got nothing!

Well… you have something… you have the ability to position yourself as a Subject Matter Expert!

When you’re having trouble trying to focus on “what” to list that would be helpful to strangers in the “building trust” category… just think of how you’d like someone to introduce you.

Imagine you’re taking the stage and the emcee is going to give your 30 second pitch!

What honor, titles, awards, and credentials do you want the audience to know about?

Your answer is exactly what you need to focus on.

So now… go, build up your profile and create a one paragraph “pitch” that you can add to your “about me” page.  This is really how easy the Subject Matter Expert positioning can be.

I picked today’s quote to help us all understand the important reason behind WHY we need to position ourselves as Subject Matter Experts.

Confidence.

Confidence is a simple word that is terribly complex.  We want to appear confident but at the same time not so confident that we are arrogant.  However, there is the danger of underselling our accomplishments in an effort to humble that creates a compeetitive disadvantage.

That’s why today’s inspiration is fantastic.

Use it as a tool to inspire confidence in your ability to inspire confidence!  (I couldn’t resist)

The first C of the Infinity Marketing Machine is “C”redibility.  It its our ability to create social proof with our tribe. We position ourselves as experts so that it builds the fundamental “trust” of know, like, and trust that is vital to bonding a tribe to you.

BUT… we know this.  We know that we should position ourselves as Subject Matter Experts.   We know that we should write a blog and “beef up” our About Me pages.  We know that we should share our knowledge… however, it’s uncomfortable OR seems like a time waster because we think, “who wants to know about me???”

It’s not about what you think, it’s about what your potential customers and potential future tribe thinks… they have ZERO confidence in you if you don’t tell them.

SO TELL THEM.

Spend the time to build the confidence that they need in you, and in turn you’ll find confidence in yourself.  And when you have confidence in yourself, others will have confidence in you… it’s like a big infinity loop.

Have you ever noticed how dumb people are?  They seem like they continue to get dumber with each day.

Then I noticed this online review.

Did you figure it out?

Margaritaville Resort in Orlando has 88 reviews and a 4.1 rating.  Not bad, right?  Look at these two zombies.  One goes so far as to say “no fun”.

You might be thinking to yourself… well, if they didn’t have fun… will I?  And you make a decision.

Guess what people… the resort is brand new and will not open for business for a MONTH!!!

People are so stupid or so malicious that they fill out bad reviews on a place that hasn’t even opened.  As for the other 86 reviews, I guess you can read their reviews and see what’s going on there.

What I’m trying to say is… anyone that receives a bad online review needs to remember this page on Google (who does not verify actual consumers of products) and decide what you want to believe or chalk up to fake.

When we deal with “Big Money Small Change” look at your responses to bad reviews.  Maybe Margaritaville should dumb it down a little more, instead of “ground breaking” it should say in it’s very first 5 words “We are not open yet”

Our short attention span society needs this straight forward, only reading the headline, shortcut to common sense.   Dumb it down. Don’t take for granted that people will understand you.  Make it simple.

Seriously…

People are dumb, help them out.

Are you in business for a “reason”?

You may see that question and say, “of course”.  I don’t want to work for someone, I have a passion for my product or service… the list goes on and on.

But is there a bigger why.  Look at this package of dog treats…

“This bag gives to shelter dogs” that’s the most important message on the package.  Sure it’s the Campfire Feast… but when you buy, is it because it’s campfire flavored dog treats or is it because you want to help shelter dog?

Most likely to help the shelter dogs.

This is important because if you are passionate about a “why” then use this dog treat bag as a role model.  They have positioned their “why” as the focal point of the business.

Now… I didn’t buy the bag, I simply took a photo, therefore, I’m not sure how much they give to shelter dogs… or what they give… but the message of giving is special.

This type of messaging is wonderful for attracting and growing your tribe, people who like the WHY are very loyal.
