You’ve heard about “wow-ing” your customers — you go above and beyond to make their experience great.

This is exactly what building a tribe is all about.  When someone joins your tribe you have the opportunity to provide regular useful information that they desire.  This is your regular chance to be extraordinary!

Think of it like this…

Have you ever received an email that was super helpful?  There you are flipping through your feed and all of a sudden you get the weekly update from your favorite business… and it has a super helpful tip.

It’s like receiving a gift.

This is how you can go beyond wow!  When you want to wow someone they’re right there in front of you – but when you want to go beyond wow, that’s when you know them so well you anticipate their needs.

This is your email list!  This is when you can provide information they don’t even know they want before they want it… you know your tribe so well you offer items for sale they really want!

This is going beyond wow… thinking about your email list and creating content in this way helps to make it super useful, doesn’t it!

Much of my energy in writing this blog is to help you find your reason “why” to share content.

The reason I focus on this is because when you’re sitting at your desk, alone, with orders, bills, and other things… it’s hard to carve out time to write a post.  You know you should, but it’s also easier to not do it.

Right?!

So one good reason to provide content your customers like… and make it rewarding for you is to understand that sometimes, the information you provide can help the reader make a decision that changes their path in life.  I’m not going to say “change their life” that’s a little far reaching, although it can happen…

But your business is in operation to serve.  Even if you think “it’s just a gift store – this is a little dramatic” – hear me out.

Let’s use the gift store example.  Someone walks into your gift store and buys a baby gift – you are serving them.  They are buying the gift as a memento of their personality to share their thoughts.  You are serving them, especially if you make it convenient by gift wrapping OR suggesting other items (like batteries) – as small as this may be… it’s a big deal that you care.  Have you ever bought a gift or received one and not had the proper batteries. OH so Frustrating!

Back to content.

It can do the same thing as remembering the batteries.

My fall back example is typically potty training.  You have a tired parent at 3am searching for the best (or any) idea to get their kid to stop wetting the bed… they come across your article and info product… you are serving them.  Your ONE good idea can change their journey!

Kind words in a post… a reminder of events this weekend… even your sale.  This all serves your customer!  It’s important to share your knowledge, even when you’re tired, or think the info is not important…

Have you ever been flipping through your social media feed only to get distracted by one post that makes you cry, laugh, or think?

YES!

This is the reason you are providing content.

You are not here to go through a check list… your here to serve!

Today try keeping this mindset as you make the most amazing content filled post you can… imagine the reader and their reaction.

What should I sell?  What is it that’s going to make money… quick?

Have you ever said those two things?  Oh yeah… and if you haven’t uttered them out loud my bet is that you’ve said them in your head.

And it does work – let’s say if a holiday is coming up… you know that you’ll have traffic, whether it’s foot traffic or traffic to your website, it makes total sense to offer a product for this anticipated group visiting.

But what about sustained growth and sales?  Product or services to allow sustained or even stable growth is where you should focus your energy.

BUT – it’s not super easy to think long term… you have a business… you’re running it on a daily basis… now throw into the mix a long term focus.  That can drive you crazy. But one way to combat the craziness is to focus on your passion.

This is the ultimate for tribe building.

When you attract a group of people that has a common passion- the products follow!  But you need to provide information that they desire.

For example, at the marina we choose to focus on reasons to use your boat versus oil and filter changes… No one wants to hear about an oil and filter change… but they do want to hear about festivals and parties around the lake that they can boat to.

This makes a big marketing difference.

When your passion matches complements your expertise the rest really does fall into place.  SO, if you’re overwhelmed trying to figure out what to posts.

Take a step back.

Look at your customers and ask what is the passion or drive for using your product and service… why the heck have the found you — then answer that need with the passion you have for your business.

Again, we tell our customers all about restaurants… it has nothing to do with what we sell, and yet… our tribe is very engaged in buying stuff from us.

Give your customers your passion… the rest really does fall in place.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 754 – A Great Big Amazon Share

Yesterday I ended my day by balancing our cash register.  I found a penny from 1954.   I started my day on a tour of our local Amazon Fulfillment center… fascinated by the robots.

OK… let me get this out of my system

Robots are freekin cool.

OMG.  If you’ve ever thought about automating your business – then visiting a company tour where they’ve done this is like an amusement park for your mind.

The products come in the door, there are plenty of humans to support the robots — but dang.  They just keep going – I kind expected the Energizer Bunny to pop from around the corner banging that drum!

He did not… but here’s the deal.

The tour was great.

I saw the future… here now.

I saw the possibilities of how to make the future happen now.

AND I also got a photo and water bottle.

My cousin invited me to go on this tour… I joked, the last tour we went on together was in 2nd grade.  Our elementary school was 2 blocks from Tonka Toys… every child received a cute doonbuggy for visiting.

Amazon had awesome water bottles!

OK – not that that’s the reason to visit or even have a tour.

But they built this facility as a showcase for the tour.  Here’s why it’s important for you to learn from Amazon on our Big Money Small Change Day… the first stop on the tour was a hallway.  It was outside a class room.

That’s when the tour guide, Tony, told us about the education benefit for being an Amazon employee… it’s VERY good. Then he told us about the maternity benefit… it also is VERY good.

WHY do they do this?

Because they love their company and those on a tour are potential employees.

The tour is your showcase of your business.

When the tour ended we learned an interesting historical reference and symbolic tribute to the founder that is in every building.  It was cool.

Then we went downstairs and they had a photo booth set up.  This how they encouraged social sharing.

Why?

Because cameras are NOT allowed on the tour.  Yet… they did not miss out on this important social opportunity.

Now… you are not Amazon, so what can you learn from this?

Showcase your business.  You can showcase it online.  Share your history.  Share your future.  Share a gift… and by all means include a way to share it on social media.

Last night I was winding down my 4th of July and as so many of us do… I was surfing my social media.

Then I noticed something…  while the 4th of July is the  same holiday for everyone, it can create unlimited possibilities when you post a traditional… “Happy 4th of July” message.

Look at these…

They all have the same message — but these were some of my favorites because they capture the spirit of the holiday AND the business….

There’s a dance studio, boating, waterpark, gymmnastics club, home decor, and dog breeder.

It’s great!  Look at how creative others get and do the same — the next holiday that comes up, really think of how you can mix your business vibe with that of the holiday.

It seems small – but it’s an impact that really affects your tribe and builds your loyalty!

Plan ahead.

We’ve heard that before and regularly follow the advice, but… then thre’s are the times we think, hummmm if only I had done that.

That’s what I’m trying to help you avoid.

I’m using Subject Matter Expert to help illustrate this “plan ahead” concept.

Let’s say you want to make $100 dollars by the end of the day.  How will you do it?

If you had an email list, you could create an offer and send it out to your customers.  IF you have done the daily work in providing information they desire, presented in a fun, engaging and exciting manner, your success rate would rise.

IF you did this from the position as a subject matter expert your success would be even higher!

Now let’s get personal.  How many are on “your list” – that’s the phrase we use to describe your email list.  How many email addresses do you have?  1,000?  400?  10? zero?  Zero but you know you can get 7 by the end of the day?

If you have 7 you better have an outstanding relationship to earn $100!

Next question… how many posts have you created in the last month?  30?  20?  8? None? — The more frequent and outstanding your information, the better your credibility!

When your tribe is ready to hear from you and expect your message, you will be much more successful in gaining the privilege of “getting” that $100.

Is this making sense?

If you want to make $100 by the end of the day… and YOU have a list… And YOU have put the time into sharing information with your tribe… YOU have the ability to send out an email and make money.

You could wake up today and think… hummm… look at these 5 T shirts, I want to get rid of them, I know there are 5 people on my list of 400 that want them… here’s an email!

This is like creating your very own ATM machine.

It’s not free, it’s not without work, but it is the real deal.

TODAY, start!  Make one post, collect one email.

If you do this every day — next week you will have 7 email addresses AND 7 posts.  In two weeks you’ll have 14 posts, and 14 email addresses… OMG, by August 1 you’ll have 31 posts and 31 emails!

Imagine how many you’d have by Christmas?  177 posts and 177 email addresses…

This will greatly improve YOUR opportunity to “wake up and decide to make $100”

This is why it’s super important to position yourself as a Subject Matter Expert… it gives you the freedom to make a list, build a tribe, and share information — it’s so you can enhance your business as the leader of the topic – and so you can say, “cool, today I’d like $100” — think if you did that every day?  $700/week or $2,800 a month… that woudl be amazing!

Alrightie – go do it… start with ONE.

PS:  did you see that you’ve only got 177 shopping days until Christmas?  HAHAHA
