What do you think when you read today’s quote?  Do you think, people with education change the world… then get a little queasy when you think about your education and resentful.

Or maybe you have a great deal of education and wonder why you haven’t lived up to the quote.

Well, here’s the deal… let’s break down the quote and show you how super valuable it is.

One of the biggest components of your foundation as a Subject Matter Expert is your education.  BOTH formal and informal.  Any learning you’ve done to gain the expertise you have is valid.  If you’ve read books, attended seminars, taken classroom learning… what ever it is that you’ve done to learn what  you know, that’s education.

Do you see how Education is your most powerful weapon?

What makes you, YOU… the fundamental learning you’ve done, this is powerful!

Now the next part of the quote, it’s to change the world.

What is the world you are trying to change?  Is it world peace or is it to sell your product that makes someone’s life better?

The definition of “world” is quite subjective.  But if you’re here to learn about Tribeology and creating an Infinity Marketing Machine to make your business better… then… your “world” is your customers.

Your everyday goal is to make their world a better place anyway!   You’re already using your education to make the world a better place…

I read today’s quote and came up with two different thoughts… the reasons you don’t put your expertise to use are…  1) analysis paralysis and 2) not sharing your gifts.

Both are bad alternatives…

So let’s start at the beginning with tribe building.

When you make the decision to build a tribe instead of attracting customers you transform your business from “one and done” to Infinity.

Why?

Because the tribe wants to stay with you.  They do not want to leave.  Therefore, you find things they want to buy and offer it to them.  The way you do this is through email.  It may seem overwhelming and that’s when you get stuck.  But, guess what…

This concept is easy and honestly, it takes effort, but it is not hard.

However… it does take time and a willingness to care.

You must care about what people want to learn, see, consume, and receive from you.  because this is the content you will share.  As the leader of your tribe, the more they view you as the expert, the better they will receive the information you send.

Therefore, you need to be willing to share your expertise.  Whether it’s a blog, vlog, podcast – just do something to share your knowledge.  Keeping the information to yourself is “safe” but sharing with someone else grows YOU.

Now…. back to the quote.

Plan ahead.

We’ve heard that before and regularly follow the advice, but… then thre’s are the times we think, hummmm if only I had done that.

That’s what I’m trying to help you avoid.

I’m using Subject Matter Expert to help illustrate this “plan ahead” concept.

Let’s say you want to make $100 dollars by the end of the day.  How will you do it?

If you had an email list, you could create an offer and send it out to your customers.  IF you have done the daily work in providing information they desire, presented in a fun, engaging and exciting manner, your success rate would rise.

IF you did this from the position as a subject matter expert your success would be even higher!

Now let’s get personal.  How many are on “your list” – that’s the phrase we use to describe your email list.  How many email addresses do you have?  1,000?  400?  10? zero?  Zero but you know you can get 7 by the end of the day?

If you have 7 you better have an outstanding relationship to earn $100!

Next question… how many posts have you created in the last month?  30?  20?  8? None? — The more frequent and outstanding your information, the better your credibility!

When your tribe is ready to hear from you and expect your message, you will be much more successful in gaining the privilege of “getting” that $100.

Is this making sense?

If you want to make $100 by the end of the day… and YOU have a list… And YOU have put the time into sharing information with your tribe… YOU have the ability to send out an email and make money.

You could wake up today and think… hummm… look at these 5 T shirts, I want to get rid of them, I know there are 5 people on my list of 400 that want them… here’s an email!

This is like creating your very own ATM machine.

It’s not free, it’s not without work, but it is the real deal.

TODAY, start!  Make one post, collect one email.

If you do this every day — next week you will have 7 email addresses AND 7 posts.  In two weeks you’ll have 14 posts, and 14 email addresses… OMG, by August 1 you’ll have 31 posts and 31 emails!

Imagine how many you’d have by Christmas?  177 posts and 177 email addresses…

This will greatly improve YOUR opportunity to “wake up and decide to make $100”

This is why it’s super important to position yourself as a Subject Matter Expert… it gives you the freedom to make a list, build a tribe, and share information — it’s so you can enhance your business as the leader of the topic – and so you can say, “cool, today I’d like $100” — think if you did that every day?  $700/week or $2,800 a month… that woudl be amazing!

Alrightie – go do it… start with ONE.

Episode 700?  Is that real?  OMG… each day I write a new post, they add up… and then a milestone is reached and it catches me by surprise! But thanks for being here for episode 700.

What a great day for Episode to fall on because it’s Subject Matter Expert Day!  This is the day we discuss how to position ourselves as the “go to” person in our field.

How do we do this?

We accomplish the goal by sharing our knowledge and becoming a leader for a tribe,  Sure , credentials such as education and and experience are valuable for credibility.  It gets your foot in the door…

BUT!

The thing that makes some appreciate your credibility is your ability to share that information, to be the leader they are looking for.

When you become the leader you are trusted and it helps you with your marketing credibility.

You need to be this leader and this is why you need to share “the stuff between your ears” all that knowledge!  It’s doing you good, but when you help others you will get the feedback and questions that will help foster energy and make you amazing.

I know this starts to read like share your information to make you feel good, but the thing is… this really does happen.

You are reading this post, and I appreciate it, but when you take action based from my words and start sharing information with your own tribe… I’m not gonna lie, it makes me feel AMAZING.

Never miss your moment.  It’s easy to wait. It’s easy to say,”I’ll do it tomorrow” -but these are reasons.

You want results.

Your customers also need results.

What type of results can you show as a Subject Matter Expert?  This is more than education and professional certifications. While those are important, it’s not a result.

Results are those things that you have done that few others have… for example, if I wrote a booklet about applying for scholarships.  Is it useful to know that I’ve got a degree in Marketing?

Heck no.  This is absolutely zero bearing on my credibility.  In fact, it’s confusing.  It’s does not give a valuable reason to buy the book.

However…

If you learned I have read over 1,000 scholarship applications as an admissions counselor for 5 years… would that make a difference in your purchase?

Heck yes!  You want to read the book.

Your results are important to building your subject matter expert status.  You need to discover what skills you have that are valuable to your customer and share it.

Another example…  We have a couple negative reviews on our social profile.  But here’s the  deal, we have 8 different profit centers and the one that gets slammed is when people damage a rental boat.  Typically alcohol is involved.  And because the boater are novices, damage happens.

Well they get mad and take out their frustration online.

I had someone call and question me about the reviews… When I pointed out that we host several hundred cruises every year… and that on each boat there are 10 people… and the online reviews go back 10 years… that’s well over 80,000 people we’ve served and in the course of 10 years we have 12 negative reviews, that’s not bad.

The person agreed.

But you see… that’s a results based credibility booster.  You need to start to think outside the box to find the hidden credibility that makes you… you!

Imagine you’re on an elevator and the other person there notices the logo on your shirt and asks, “what does that business do?”

You’re ready, right?  This post is kind of lame… you’re familiar with the “elevator speech” and you can rattle off what you do without any difficulty.

Perfect, that’s good – task one done.  Have an elevator speech.

NOW… imagine you’re given 10 minutes to speak on any topic of your business, what do you choose?

That’s a little more of a challenge, isn’t it!  But it’s something I really want you to think about AND I want you to record this!  Yes… make a video.

Why?

It’s great practice.  Also, the thing you can speak about for 10 minutes in your business IS the thing that makes you a Subject Matter Expert.

Positioning yourself as the Subject Matter Expert will draw people to you and that’s important to your online presence.

Now all you have to do is pretend the elevator is stuck for 10 minutes… wait, I hate elevators, so let’s pretend we’re on one of those really long moving walkways at the airport and just start talking.

The most amazing thing you can give your tribe is yourself.  The truest most approachable down to earth imperfect perfection you’ve got!

And then I say you need to position yourself as a Subject Matter Expert… and you are confused.

How can you be an expert and at the same time be imperfect.

Well… this is the wonderful aspect of a Subject Matter Expert!  You don’t have to have a professional degree to be you.  You and your experience are “just enough” for your tribe, especially when you bring in other experts to enhance your knowledge.

Think about it like this… I’m in a Facebook group that discusses business tactics.  The moderator regularly brings in “live” special events… two that I’m remembering off my head are an attorney and an Instagram expert.

The moderator is not the expert, but she has rallied a tribe that needs HER connections.  She goes out of her way to find out what her tribe needs and provide it, therefore she IS the perfect imperfect small business Subject Matter Expert.

Get it?

My cousin has a yoga studio, but she regularly brings in experts to enhance the wellness teachings whether it’s meditation or energy work.  She has a tribe but regularly brings in other experts to enhance her imperfect perfection (she’ll laugh and just say she’s imperfect) but she really goes out of her way to continually elevate HER Subject Matter Expert status.

You can do this too.

When you’re out of your element, bring in another expert to write the PDF, Create the post, host the live, or interview for your podcast.

It’s OK to know where your knowledge needs more… and then give it to your tribe – they won’t leave you, in fact… they’ll stick around even longer.  It’s part of that “one stop” things we all love!

Get out there and be the Perfect Imperfect Subject Matter Expert
