TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #541 – People Really Are This Dumb…

Grab your free gift: The 5 C’s of the Infinity Marketing Machine

“Sometimes it feels like the smarter the technology gets, the dumber we become…”

Friday: Big Money Small Change

Have you ever noticed how dumb people are?  They seem like they continue to get dumber with each day.

Then I noticed this online review.

Did you figure it out?

Margaritaville Resort in Orlando has 88 reviews and a 4.1 rating.  Not bad, right?  Look at these two zombies.  One goes so far as to say “no fun”.

You might be thinking to yourself… well, if they didn’t have fun… will I?  And you make a decision.

Guess what people… the resort is brand new and will not open for business for a MONTH!!!

People are so stupid or so malicious that they fill out bad reviews on a place that hasn’t even opened.  As for the other 86 reviews, I guess you can read their reviews and see what’s going on there.

What I’m trying to say is… anyone that receives a bad online review needs to remember this page on Google (who does not verify actual consumers of products) and decide what you want to believe or chalk up to fake.

When we deal with “Big Money Small Change” look at your responses to bad reviews.  Maybe Margaritaville should dumb it down a little more, instead of “ground breaking” it should say in it’s very first 5 words “We are not open yet”

Our short attention span society needs this straight forward, only reading the headline, shortcut to common sense.   Dumb it down. Don’t take for granted that people will understand you.  Make it simple.

Seriously…

People are dumb, help them out.

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode #487 – Get Your Halloween On

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” Arthur Ashe

Friday: Big Money Small Change

We’re at Friday!  This is the day we take a look at what our neighbors are doing… well, at least some examples of ways to improve your marketing and sales that don’t cost a lot.

I was kinda stressing because I didn’t have an idea of what to write… then just like magic, inspiration struck!  This really cool ad popped up on my Facebook feed.

This is what I call an “every day product” it’s not something you buy for a specific holiday, or a one time special event type use.  You buy it and use it “every day”.

What it does is takes your Apple plug in cord and converts it into a retractable cord that stays neat and tidy in your bag!

There is nothing that says “Halloween” about the product… it’s not orange, there are no pumpkins, and it’s void of candy… but look at what this company did to get their Halloween on!

They placed their product on a piece of decorated paper and created a Facebook ad.

img_5554.png

How brilliant.

It catches your eye, it’s simple, and it helps you vary your ads so your customers notice.

Learn from the ad it’s a brilliant representation of today’s inspiration.

1- Start where you are.
2- Use what you have.
3- Do what you can.

Your efforts do not have to be expensive to be impactful.

Your turn.

ProfitCenterCoach.com – Episode 433 – Whoof! A Free Bag of Food!

“Nothing is more attractive than loyalty.”

Friday: Big Money Small Change

I had a busy trip to the dog food store.  OK, the fact that we now have entire stores devoted to dog food really puts into perspective how many people have dogs!

When I was a kid we used to just get the 25 pound bag of food at the grocery store.  My dad tells me stories of how when he was a kid their dog just ate whatever table scraps were left from dinner for the family.

Now a days… we have entire stores full of food for dogs.  Process that for a minute.  Wow.

Well, I went to the store and got his hoof, pig ear, treats, chew stick, can food, toppers and bags of food.

Did you catch that… bagSSSSSS of food.  When I was a kid… our dog ate kibble. That was it. One bag, one flavor.

Well, Mr. Pancake is a bit of a pampered “diva”.  This means he gets a bag of lamb or rabbit, or even kangaroo…. the thing that makes me laugh is that one flavor is called “beef” and not cow.  But back to my topic.

I enjoy going back to the dog food store, time and time again.

Why?

I’m in a magical frequent buyer club!

I do nothing to be in it except tell them my name AND EMAIL.

Occasionally I’ll receive a notice… but the big thing is… they log my purchases (I’m assuming that helps them send me Cow kibble fliers)  But seriously, I don’t have to carry a card to get logged as buying a bag of kangaroo kibble.

Now here’s the super crazy part…. I keep going back without receiving ANY discount.

I show up, buy $200 in items, and receive zero discount!

However, in the event, I continue to buy 10 bags of the same size product, eventually I’ll receive a free bag.  This happened today!  WOO HOOO free bag of food!!!

This is the big money small change trick… had they given me 10% off every time it would not be exciting, or drama building!  BUT, getting an entire bag of food, all at one time, for free… is like a BIG DEAL.

It’s a gift, it’s a present, it’s a FREE BAG OF FOOD!

It’s the same discount, 10% off on a single bag is actually saving all the 10% discounts to make one free bag, all at once!

BUT, if I stop buying, I get zero discount!

Loyalty programs are a pretty cool gig… but think about this whole “free bag” concept.

OH and you know what… each time I stop in I’m told how many more bags I need to purchase until “then next one” is free… so they help me”countdown” along the way.

PS: Mr. Pancake is getting rabbit tomorrow… he love rabbit… gonna be a happy boy!

Episode #409 Which Came First the Tiger or the Sign?

“Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious and adding the meaningful.”

So… which came first… the chicken or the egg? Or in the photo’s case, the tiger or the sign?

It’s Friday and I like to share cute little tips to help turn small change into big money.  This photo is from a post I saw online for a boutique.  They make this neat tiger balloon display.

Here’s the deal…

If you walked by you might just think it’s a neat way to draw attraction to their boutique.  And may or may not bring you in.

OR

If they just had their sign that said “We sell balloons” without the tiger… again, you might think.  “A single balloon on a string, that’s nice”

BUT clearly they are artists of balloons!  Using both the amazing display of balloons along with the sign gives you BOTH the sample of what type of balloons they create AND that they sell balloons… OH and it’s a great attention stopper to create floor traffic.

Sometimes obvious is silly.  But in this case, the obvious statement of “we sell balloons” OR the obvious addition of a balloon sampling TOGETHER has a major impact.  It’s a small change that will bring big money.

Episode #397 – See the Big Secret

“Change how you see and see how you change.” Zen proverb

If you want to know how to create the biggest change in your business… look small.

Well, just look.

Here’s what I mean… You need to stop and take a look at your business with fresh eyes.  I’m getting one of our logos redone.  I went to get a “T” shirt made that we could sell in our store that was embroidered with the logo.  It was pointed out to me that we needed a new logo.

I didn’t even notice how ugly and outdated the old logo was!  It took someone else with fresh eyes to show me.

That’s what I’m suggesting — either seek someone else to come into your business or visit your website and “secret shop” for you or with you!  Notice the things out of place or that are outdated.  Sure, it’s a little painful and even embarassing… but you need to see the stains in the ceiling tile, the weeds in the sidewalk, the paint falling off the wall, the scuffs along the floor boards, recognize the photos are outdated, the open case of soda in the cooler… the missing stock on the shelf.    Feel bad yet?  Yeah, that’s what our walk through was like about a month ago… haha.

All of these “negative things” add up to create a big picture that your customers experience at your business or website.  This is your vibe. You need to figure out if the vibe you think you are creating matches the one in your head!

This is really one of the biggest money and smallest change things you can do at your business.  Go outside and walk in with the eyes of a customer seeing your space for the first time!

Episode #366 – Small Change Doesn’t Mean Effortless!

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” Maya Angelou

Oh gosh… today was a big one.  It started at 8 with the ice cream company picking up the freezer.  This was followed by the store fixture company delivering a new retail rack and moving a different one out of our way.  Finally the soda company showed up with a smaller cooler and that involved moving two other coolers.  Tomorrow the new ice cream freezer arrives and we move the bait fridge.

Why?

Well it’s Friday and that means it’s Big Money Small Change Day.  By taking the time rearrange and get new freezers and coolers that are smaller I’m able to do a couple things… We will have to load more often, but I hopefully will eliminate the “pop-tasterfy” that we have at least once a summer.  If you sell perishable items the you can understand the gut wrenching feeling of noticing your stock is past the expiration date!  UGHHHH

The other small change I’m doing is to move our bait cooler to allow for a meaningful and coordinated display of our fishing items… all together.  It’s going to be nice. We’ll make more money through the impulse purchase of the fishing tackle, and we’ll save a whole bunch of money with better control and consolidating to feature our top sellers only.  This new product mix will make a big difference.

But to sum it up,  it’s been a logistical dance.  I mean this small change has been a giant Jenga game!  As I was thinking of it today and today’s inspiration came to mind.  Because, once everything is in place against the wall, it looks like we simply moved a couple coolers to get the butterfly, but dang that cocoon process to get from the ugly caterpillar to our beautiful butterfly took a lot of effort!

All I’m saying is… although you’re embarking on a small change to produce big money… don’t kid yourself, sometimes the small change takes a lot of planning!  It’s still worth it. But when all is done… step back and appreciate the final result!  You know how much effort it took.
