We’ve made it to Thursday – the day we talk about our Infinity Customers!  The thing I wanted to chat about is there are two sides to our Infinity Customers… side one is the buying side and side two is the nurturing side.

These are very different sides.

Let’s look at the benefits of the two sides.

If we operated under the “One and Done” style of business that we have traditionally grown up with we would create an ad.  It’s focus would be on that product or service we sell.  People would buy and we would look for more customers.

Clearly, we still need to do advertising, but… there is a new way.

The new way is when we create our Infinity Marketing Machine and get ready for new customers to join us on a journey.  We find them (or they find us) and they enter our machine.  This machine is geared to make them want to stay.  Sure they found us with an intent to buy something… but after they buy, they don’t leave.

They stay!

This is totally different.

Sure, we used to keep a “mailing list” and when we wanted to sell something we would create a letter or postcard and send to the customers… but now we entertain them.

At the heart of it, we are creating a tribe.  The tribe stays.

I look at how we did business 20 years ago, we kept (and still keep) a mailing list.  Our customers rent boats, and at the beginning of the next season we would send a invite to come out and enjoy the lake… by renting a boat.  This model will still work.

BUT now…

All winter long, once a week, our customers receive an email from us.  Each week we talk about what is going on around the marina and in the area.  We share our vibe.  By the time the spring comes, they’ve already seen us working on the motors, cleaning the interiors, launching in the lake, watching the ice melt, and hiring new crew.  We really have no reason to send a postcard to welcome to the lake, they’ve lived the experience, in real time, as it has happened.

This is the nurturing side.

As for the buying side… well, that happens when they rent a boat.  We do still have traditional advertising which generates business, BUT… again, we switched our focus to capture leads instead of the “one and done” cash register ring.

It’s VERY scary to make the jump.  We are getting ever so close to our 60th year of business, and to leave everything you’ve known about “one and done” in exchange for “infinity” is scary.

Here’s the funny thing, I didn’t send out that “welcome” letter in the summer of 2018.  It didn’t even occur to me, I noticed I didn’t send it about a week ago… and you know what, we INCREASED sales in our rentals last summer.

Infinity works.  It IS well worth it, IF you are willing to commit to the 5 C’s… Character, Content, Consistency, Customers, Cash.   When you fully Commit, it works.

hahaha – That’s the hidden C… Commit.

Therefore, if you commit to the continuous nurturing of your tribe building the buying side will take care of itself!

1) Don’t chase people.
2) Be Yourself.
3) Do your own thing.
4) Work Hard.
RESULT: The “right” people will those that REALLY belong in your life (tribe) will come to you and stay!

People are attracted TO you.  Otherwise you become the “close talker” at the party that stuffs your business card in their pocket… you end up chasing them.  (and they run faster away from you… haha)

You want to attract people.  You want to attract customers.  You do this by being yourself and doing your own thing.  I love that you are here to read my post.  But if it annoys you that I write short paragraphs… use dot dot dot’s… and write conversation style.  Eventually, I’ll annoy you.

However… If you like my style, you’ll hang out, come back, and stay for a long time.

To transform a customer into an Infinity Customer. You need to make them want to stay.  This is accomplished by respecting them with information they desire that provides them insight in to YOU and makes them know, like, and trust you.

When this happens – they’ll stick around!  That’s the goal, create a tribe that wants to do business with you.

Write this inspiration on your wall as you develop your followers.  Here’s the reason why.   You can treat your group as a cohesive tribe but you cannot think of each individual as the same!

So what the heck does that mean?

Message creation!  You want to provide information that your group craves.  Once you figure out what this is you’ll transform your group into a tribe.

A tribe is a loyal group that will follow you anywhere!

The tribe becomes one at this very moment. They find a collective mission and want to support your in your journey.

However, just like our inspiration says, that makes them “not different” but it also makes them “not the same” meaning they maintain an individual identity at the same time they are united in their mission to follow you!

This is a critical point to understand in the Infinity Marketing Machine.  Your ultimate goal is to build a tribe.  You start with customers or followers… but the goal is a tribe.

The tribe is loyal.

Think of your tribe like snowflakes.  You have a big pile of snow… but when you look close each flake is unique.

Therefore, keep individual records of people as you collect their email addresses.

Learn to categorize them.  For our marina we send different information to our boat rental customers than we do to our boat owners.  For example, a rental customer does not need to know about our special on oil/filter changes.  However, both customers want to know what activities are going on around the lake over the weekend!

See… they are one group but they are not the same!

That’s today hint – build your group as individuals so you can market different products and services targeting the correct end user!

Episode #390 – The Secret is Focusing on the Right Thing

“Limits are where Infinity ends…”

You have successfully built a business with customers and they like you. You enjoy being in business… now what?

This is when many entrepreneurs go crazy and start expanding, adding more product lines… etc.  It’s a creative mind gone wild.  The excuse is that you need (or want) to make more money.

There you are with widget A, and now you have widget R.  But you seem to simply be working harder for not much gain… why?

It’s because you jump to the next big thing not realizing that your real big thing is already with you!  I don’t mean a product or service, I mean your customer base.  You see today’s quote is rather brilliant.  Your limit happens when you quit believing in infinity!

If you start down the path of widget R and it’s a product that may not be directly related to widget A, you are then tasked with finding customers and building this whole interest at the same time you need to nurture widget A.  That spreads your time very thin.

What can you do?

Well, when you make the decision to move from “one and done” to “infinity” by creating an Infinity Marketing Machine you will finally create a tribe of followers that really like you and believe in you!  These people are ready for your next product and quite possibly will suggest it to you… therefore you’ll develop widget B, C or D with this core group in mind!

Sure you still need to continually attract customers for B, C, and D…. however, a great percentage of these new customers will want A, also!  They’ll cross between your product offerings because they believe in your core values as a business.  They will identify with you and they will stick around for even more things to buy from you.

Don’t limit yourself… keep working for infinity!

Episode #388 – It’s NOT About the Fluffy Pillows

Do you want results?  Do you want to increase your sales?  Do you want to make more money?

The Infinity Marketing Machine is a new way of tackling the age old situation of increasing sales among current customers.  The twist is turning these customers into a tribe who’s loyalty encourages the purchase of more and more products.  I like to think of it as the philosophy of  “there’s always something else you can sell someone.”

So knowing that… the foundation of the Infinity Marketing Machine is your ability to provide interesting content.

What is interesting content?

It’s whatever unites your customer base!  If you are a hotel, the thing that unites your customers may be the ability to stay in your rooms… but look deeper.  The hotel provides a restaurant, free breakfast, gift shop or even workout area… that unites them.  Now go deeper… the actual area or destination really unites them. Now even deeper… they’re staying with you to attend business meetings.

When you start to “speak their language” know the difference between a newsletter and posts that are geared toward the fluffy pillows and new TV’s… and business tips for more productive meetings or the restaurants in the area.  Sometimes the information you’ll provide to your customers has nothing to do with your actual business!

The things your customers want to learn are how to USE your business so it benefits them… I mean, if your hotel had a newsletter and featured a review of the latest marketing book, that might be WAY more interesting than learning about the new paint in the hallway, especially if you are 800 miles away from the hotel, sitting in your living room.

Create content that unites your customers… when they’re NOT at your business!  That’s the name of the game in terms of providing content that will turn customers into a tribe and that’s the foundation of the Infinity Marketing Machine!
