TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 849 – Who Do You Want to Be?

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit.  Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy!  It really is that simple.

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

Quote: “It’s never too late to become who you want to be.” F. Scott Fitzgerald

There are so many quotes you can look at that give words of inspiration to change your life… the when’s the 2nd best time to plant a tree… what you believe you achieve… all of these things imply

Change

If you do not like what the heck is going on, right now, you can change it.

AND

You don’t have to wait.

You can change right now… it doesn’t have to be the super duper large change, it can be the small altering of a habit.

The fun thing is, this “small altering of a habit” is the start that brings you on a journey to a new habit.

Something so simple as you want to run a marathon.  You can’t just decide to run a marathon and next day… woo hoo you did it.  But the moment you think, “I want to run a marathon” – take action, look up a video on tips, take action on the tips – what ever it might be, like joining a marathon group, getting a coach, running… just take action.

This is exactly what you need to do for ANY goal.

Take action, and do that action immediately.

So the only question left is, “Who do you want to be?”

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 618 – Look Forward… Move Forward.

Quote: “Never look back unless you are planning to go that way ” – Henry David Thoreau

Wednesday: Midweek Motivation

The hardest concept to grasp is “let it go”, much like that song… (it’s in your head now, isn’t it) — haha… but believe it or not, it’s one of those phrases people struggled with before the movie.

The thing with not letting it go is that you’re functioning from the past.  You might not mean to, but your decisions are all based on a “past tense” frame of mind.

It’s like operating in a “future” mind… again, you’re functioning in a lack of reality.

The simplest way to visualize both of these decision making processes is to consider money.  You spend money you don’t have, operating in the future, or you spend less than you make because you’re paying debt.  Either one is not desirable because your decisions are not based on your “today”.

Learn to identify when you operate in the past, and quit looking that way!  You can only make fantastic life today when you set your goals ahead of you!

Episode #358 – Got an Idea… Take Action!

“Ideas have a short shelf life. You must act on them before the expiration date.”

ACTION!  Take action.  That’s the result we’re going for with today’s Midweek Motivation!

Have you ever walked out into the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, had an amazing idea and by the time you grab the orange juice you’ve forgotten it?  What about those most brilliant ideas you have in the shower and they’re gone by the time you turn off the water?

OH it’s maddening!

That’s why it’s important to discuss this topic.  So step A, write down the idea!  Even if it’s the idea that you have that wakes you up in the middle of the night.  Write it down!  If you’re anything like me, you’ll forget it by morning.

Now… StepOne – once you’re in the habit of writing it down, take action!  If it’s a great idea… you’ve got to just go for it.  Did you catch that — this is Step One, that’s because, writing it down is just a pre-step!  Of course taking action means charting a plan with a goal. Check my website for ideas on that, but by all means, take action!

Episode #238 – If Your Goal is to Eat Noodles and Take a Nap, It’s Time to Get a New Goal.

“If you’re still looking for that one person who can change your life, look in the mirror.”

Looking for a pick me up? Look in the mirror!

I just heard a collective group scream.  haha — but seriously, why are you looking for motivation?  I mean, it’s good to get a boost, but really you have everything you need to “keep going”.

Sure, some days may be a little more difficult… I mean, in Minnesota right now its getting dark out much earlier.  Daylight savings ended and all I want to do is eat noodles and take a nap… pretty sure I want to hibernate.   But I still can stay on track by some simple techniques.  I’m taking every effort to make sure I have a list.  Before I go to sleep, I create that list of three things I need to get done the next day… that’s a quick and easy hack.

But more in depth strategic planning includes…

First, decide what you really want.

Second, set the goal using SMART goal setting.  When you have a time-bound strategic plan you will achieve your goal.  It’s one of the best techniques out there!  Check out my website for a quick reminder.

Finally, when you attain that goal… celebrate!  (and plan the next)

You’ve got this. Just dig deep and stick to your goals.  For today – set one!  Get that motivation from one goal achieved!   (As long as it’s not to eat a noodles and take a nap)

Happy Wednesday.

Episode #202 – Be Unstoppable.

“I am unstoppable because I decided I am.” – Tony Robbins

Looking for a little motivation to keep you going?  How about, unstoppable.  It’s a great word to plant in your brain!  Unstoppable!

Now… I don’t want you to put it in your brain and forget about it.  “Oh what a great post… unstoppable. I’m going to remember it and I’ll dust it off later.” NO!  Be unstoppable.  Be unstoppable, now.

Start today.

Make the decision to just plow through any obstacle.  In fact, there are no obstacles.  You are able to see the goal and you’re able to see the path to achieving it.  Goal is achievable because you’ve broken it down in to “bite size pieces”.

That’s where you’ll find the secret to your success.  When you zero in on what you really want just use goal achieving techniques to make it happen.

This will make you unstoppable.

Episode #180 – What We Can Learn About Goal Achievement From My Dog.

My dog is overweight.  He needs to lose about 10 lbs.  He’s always been a picky eater.  He also eats when he wants.  So sometimes he won’t eat his kibble for a day or two other times he eats it right away.  It is the magic that is him.

However, about two months ago I started to notice he kinda just stopped eating it – he’d eat a little, but for the most part it sat in his bowl.  He gets canned food at night, so it didn’t bug me, and the weather was hot, so again, I figured it was “just him” – but then  I read an article that dogs can become bored with their food.

Last week I went to the pet food store and received some sample packs… OH MY.  For three days he devoured each new pack of kibble.  Then you know what happened.

He won’t even go near his bowl unless it’s the “good stuff”.

Mr. Pancake now has me trained.  His goal was to get the “good” kibble.  Today, he got good kibble.

When you goal set,  the goal is the important part.  How you accomplish the goal is the area you need the flexibility.  There are many methods to get you from A to B.  Be willing to adjust your path, your time line, the methods!

The road block keeping you from the goal is probably a good thing!  While achieving a goal is not easy, it shouldn’t be awful.  When it is awful, take that as a clue that you need to adjust SOMETHING.  You need to do something different.  Don’t let frustration make you quit.  Instead use the frustration as the “hey… something isn’t working” alarm and readjust!

Eyes on the prize.

Go for the goal.

Episode #129 – Focus for Success – Especially with Social Media Marketing

Do you know what your really want? Cool that’s one part of achieving it!

When you really know what you want you can implement your plan for goal achievement and achieve success.  Let’s look at your social media marketing plan… do you know what you really want there?

Probably not.

If you are like most small businesses you have a general idea of what you want to do, but an actual plan escapes you.  This isn’t bad.  It gives you lots of room to improve.  If you feel overwhelmed by your social media, it’s possible that you need to develop a plan of attack.

Start with your content mission statement.  This is the one concise umbrella statement that combines your general marketing mission with your desire to communicate with your audience. If you interested in increasing sales and want to be recognized for helpful tips within your 15 mile radius, than every post you create will enhance or support your goal just stated.

Next plot it on a calendar.  Take the next month and write all of your business “important dates”.  These could be a big special event or a small festival in your town.  Seeing when these real world activities are taking place will help you “backward build” to give you topics to talk about and promote!  Other dates on your calendar can be filled in with topics that support your content mission statement.

ALSO — big tip coming… make sure to plot on the calendar ANY deadlines you write on your web pages… for example if you put a special offer “expires” June 17… you better make sure that June 18 that old date is not still showing!

Finally, start.  You need to be consistent.  However, it’s hard to be consistent if you do not start.  So make the leap and understand this small bit of information… often your customer visits your website or social media posts first… and often for a small business it’s the last place you update!  YIKES!

That should give you a little motivation!

Episode #113 – Define Success On Your Terms

I had a crew member tell me that he liked getting a paycheck, he’d just like it IF he didn’t have to work to get it. He lasted about two more weeks and then he just “no show no called”.  Shocking… I know.  He is someone that simply doesn’t understand today’s inspiration.

“The only place success comes before work is in a dictionary.”

Or does he understand it?  OK, that would be giving him waaaay too much credit.  But hear me out.  Depending on your definition of success the receiving a check without working is ideal… I say this with caution because, again, it depends on the source of the check – if it’s coming from mom and dad and you’re living in their basement as an adult… that is not what I mean.  However, if you’ve worked hard and now invest the money and get a check – cool!   Notice I said “worked hard” – the man-boy didn’t want to work.

Let’s go further.

Question: How do you define success?
Answer: Any way you choose.

Success is based on what you want it to be.  You can live your life comparing yourself and your business to others.  When you do this you become “just like them” except you don’t.  You become a less successful version because what they did was original and trailblazing… what you do is copying.  If you truly want to be successful, define and blaze your own trail.  That way when you accomplish your goal, you have all the tools and success necessary to start off on another successful journey.

How do you create success?

You decide what you want.  The best way to do this is to set a goal and create a path to achieve it.  And if it’s a big goal, break it into smaller goals.  AND don’t just have one goal… have several!  It’s OK.  You’re running a small business, you know how to manage multiple projects and tasks.  Why on earth focus on one goal… your personality dictates that you can handle more than one thing at a time!

You don’t have to do multiple goals… but why wouldn’t you?  If it’s because you have more than you can handle and one goal is enough…  that’s perfect.  But if you are only concentrating on one goal because you read it in a book or that’s the advice you’ve always heard… then try multiple goals.  There’s nothing wrong with trying.

Here’s what I mean.  Create a goal to increase sales at the same time you create a goal to increase your personal contact with your current customers at the same time you create a goal to enhance your in-person experience.  Three goals.  If you switch to a goal setting technique it will be far easier to monitor your success.  Yes, it will take work to get used to this technique, but… if getting the bathroom cleaned daily becomes a goal, the goal does become a habit and you can next move onto the next goal of dusting one area of your store every day so the entire store becomes clean… and as you know “clean” will increase sales.

One final reminder… your goals do need to be specific, especially when you have employees helping achieve your goals.  If your goal is “clean bathrooms” this can mean very different things.  Create a check list, because it will help you know when success is attained.  PS: We just did this at our marina… and the bathrooms look fantastic!

Episode #102 – Are You Lost?

Are you in your car and lost right now?  Probably not because you shouldn’t be reading and driving… haha!  But have you ever been in a car and lost?  Probably yes!

Why aren’t you still in the car and lost?
Because you changed your direction!

There was a moment when you were driving that you said, “Self… this is not the right way.”  That moment is when you stopped or turned around or looked up a new route on GPS.  Eventually you found your correct path.  It was not instant.   You did not change direction and presto the car was instantly in the destination.

Hummmmmmmmm

You can change direction… now.  But it’s silly to expect to be at your destination, now.  Get it?

Prepare a plan and take action!  Here’s my article on goal achievement… use it as a guide.  Make sure that as you are heading toward your goal that you add a time line and “check in” with yourself.  If you need to adjust your path, just do it!   But most of all, enjoy the journey!

Episode #98 – You Want Great… Don’t Stop at Good!

Keep Going.  It seems like a lot of effort and things are good. But keep going.

Why?

Because your goal is important!  When you take the time to goal set, achievement is awesome.  If you take the time to “goal think” then good becomes awesome…  What is goal think?  Goal think is where you do all of the envisioning and hoping and thinking that achieving something would be super awesome, but you never write down what you actually want.

Go through the process of a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goal setting exercise which will include putting the goal to paper.  Then go back and check your progress.  The reason it’s important to write it down is to give you an end result.  (visit my webpage: Goal Attainment“)

We’ve all been in the middle of an “improvement” phase and thought, “hey this is pretty good” and stopped.   That’s why the last 10 pounds don’t come off or why your finances improve but you don’t hit financial freedom with zero debt.  You feel healthier and the super stress of your finances have disappeared so you feel good, but wouldn’t you rather feel great?  That’s where the real work comes in and if you had a goal on your paper, although you felt good… you’d see that when you set out on the journey, you weren’t quite there.

Write down the goals

Don’t settle for the short term good instead of the long term great!

PS: if you love my post … give it a “like”!

Action Step

2- Do it.
