Enjoy, relax, take your time.  What does this mean?  This means be comfortable.

I enjoy being comfortable, I’m assuming you do… too.

Your customers also enjoy being comfortable.  Therefore, it’s important to consider ways to make them feel more at home.

This could be as simple as making sure your website has it’s certificate up to date, or having reading glasses for use to see small print on contracts or receipts.

Well…

This was a dream!  The grocery cart at Winn Dixie has actual cup holders fused to the handle area.  This small addition really makes it easy to enjoy your beverage while shopping the store.

Small attentions to detail make a difference!

I want to make a viral post.  There’s a good goal, let me hold back my laughter.

The coveted viral post is one that happens… sure you can use a few principles to help it out, such as timely posts… but let me throw a curve ball at you.

Our goal is to create a tribe that “knows, likes, and trusts” us… right?!  Well, when you create a post… how about planning for “viral” in a mini sort of way.

By planning I mean include your “next step” message -whether that’s visit a special product or offer on your website… enter a contest… click a link… you know – the action step you desire.

But what do you do for mini-viral?

Include your customers!

This adorable dog is celebrating his birthday… do you think for a minute that his pet parents let this photo go out without “liking” and “sharing” – No way!

I have a dog and if someone did this for him… OH BOY it would be shared everywhere! It’s so super cool.

So do this… not every one of your customers will share this post – but several will.   Now multiply that by several posts and guesss what you have several x several!  I have no idea what the number will be – but instead of trying for one viral post… you could really make an impact with “several x several”!

And this is FREE!!!  Can’t get any more “big money small change” than that!

I’m taking time this week to do a repeat of some of my favorite posts – here’s one from back at Episode 477 where I discussed another way to overcome your hesitation in creating your Subject Matter Expert Status.

Having trouble with positioning yourself as a Subject Matter Expert?  Sometimes its because it feels strange to “brag”.  I assure you this is not bragging.

This is about building trust.

You need to build trust online and this is the most effective way to do this.  Here’s why… when you meet someone in person you have the advantage of picking up on non-verbal ques.  You can see the way they smile, the way they use eye contact, and even how they shake your hand.  But online you’ve got nothing!

Well… you have something… you have the ability to position yourself as a Subject Matter Expert!

When you’re having trouble trying to focus on “what” to list that would be helpful to strangers in the “building trust” category… just think of how you’d like someone to introduce you.

Imagine you’re taking the stage and the emcee is going to give your 30 second pitch!

What honor, titles, awards, and credentials do you want the audience to know about?

Your answer is exactly what you need to focus on.

So now… go, build up your profile and create a one paragraph “pitch” that you can add to your “about me” page.  This is really how easy the Subject Matter Expert positioning can be.

Loyalty programs are an “easy” way to build your tribe… and I say “easy” because the right program can make it a breeze.

If you don’t use the correct program… total headache. You’re not looking for a new job just a way to bond your vibe!

Now… here’s the deal.

It’s STILL fun to receive mail. And that’s where I wanted to show you the rewards program for our dog food store!

They print the rewards certificate inside the front cover of a fantastic news catalog brochure thingie.

Funny thing is… I JUST noticed the rewards coupon in January,

I’m a smart person… just sometimes not the most observant since Mr Pancake (best dog ever) is six.

Since my reward is around $40 a quarter… I’ve thrown away… roughly… $1000 – YIKES!

However… even though I’ve “missed” the rewards certificates… this is still a great idea and something important for our “try this” topic.

Why?

We all need to create “touch points” with our tribe – -look at this.  Once a quarter (most people look forward to the real money certificate) now I do, too….haha — but you have an audience WAITING for your communication.

AND

You give them valuable information.

This isn’t junk mail.

It’s something your tribe waits for and bonds with.

Here’s the deal… you don’t have to do this in depth of a publication to make it valuable.  Simpley using a rewards program AND giving valuable information associated with it naturally creates an “insiders” type of group — a tribe within your tribe.

Every other year I need to take my continuing education to maintain my real estate license.  Well, it’s that time of “every other” year!

I’ve been in an online class the past week and I’ve got to tell you, sometimes you come into contact with people that match your message… and this is one for me!

My instructor is the owner of the real estate school and he is a strong believer in efficiency.

Throughout the class time he has shared how he has been incorporating technology in his processes and it’s awesome!

First, the class is taught online.  It’s a live, interactive class that is taught both in person and online, at the same time… This is exactly what I refer to as an “infinity product” – he is able to increase his reach of students without adding more desks or more classes.  He simply offers the class to online students.

Can you do this?

You might think, well I don’t sell a class… I can’t do this.

Well… what about this idea.  He mentioned that many real estate agents now offer virtual tours online.  So instead of sitting an open house, you are able to pull up a video that the agent recorded.  This stream lines the agent’s time by recording once, versus, taking people to the home individually.

Another benefit is safety.  There is no way to attack an agent who is alone with the prospective buyer in a home, if there is no in person tour.  Just something to think about.

So maybe you offer tours or sales of products that you could create one video and utilize over and over.  It just takes some creative “out of the box” thinking.  Sure, video technology has been available for several years, but maybe you’ve never thought to use it in “that” way..

I thought the idea video home tours instead of in person tours was genius.  What a great use of time!  And of course, personal visits are better… but this is a great “first” visit to narrow the list.   Safety and efficiency from one resource. That’s a great infinity product.

It’s fun to take a look at an entirely different industry and see how they use technology.  Often it spurs ideas you can use, too!

A new week!  New opportunities to boast about yourself.

Seriously, it is.  Today is Subject Matter Expert Day and we need to focus on positioning ourselves as the expert we are.

Again, sometimes this may seem difficult because we’re often taught not to talk about our accomplishments.

However, would you like to get surgery from the doctor that graduated from Medical School and hangs the diploma on the wall… or…

I can’t even come up with an “or” haha

But you see my point we really don’t get the opportunity to watch a surgeon in action, therefore, we rely on diplomas, articles in journals, word of mouth from others that have had the surgery by this doctor.

So how about your business, what can you do to position yourself as an expert of the “thing” that you do or sell.  After all, someone is giving you money for that “thing” so it’s best to be the expert in the transaction!

The reason I bring this up is I received a very clever representation of positioning yourself.

The salesperson of my most recent car purchase sent me (well, his email list) a two page PDF that was an announcement of his new location at the car dealership.  It included his mission statement, commitment to customers, and his awards.

Short story.  I am the WORST car buyer.  I just hate the whole process and everything about it.

This last car purchase was over 2 years in the “internal” process… I went back and forth on what I wanted… shopped online, rarely went anywhere to visit a car… it was more of a quest.

SO… I found the car, it was slightly over budget… I figured I’d drive there, test drive it… and go away for another 6 months.

Then I met Shawn.  I actually uttered “crap” under my breath.  I knew from the moment he walked toward me that I was going to buy the car.  Don’t ask me why… I have no idea, but something about that encounter was just different.

And I bought the car.

Now here’s the funny thing about Shawn… I knew he was good at his job, as represented on the test drive and the 7 trophies on the shelf behind his desk for top sales.  OR when you wandered over to the waiting area and found brass plate after brass plate on plaque after plaque with his name as top sales for the quarter.

But his humble PDF mentioned in one sentence that he achieved top sales nationwide.

That’s Shawn.

Sometime, when you get a moment, write up your PDF to your customers and just send it out.  It’s OK, we can talk about ourselves.

You see, I’m part of Shawn’s Tribe and I’m proud of it.

Your customers will feel the same way – your excellence elevates your tribe.
