Every other year I need to take my continuing education to maintain my real estate license.  Well, it’s that time of “every other” year!

I’ve been in an online class the past week and I’ve got to tell you, sometimes you come into contact with people that match your message… and this is one for me!

My instructor is the owner of the real estate school and he is a strong believer in efficiency.

Throughout the class time he has shared how he has been incorporating technology in his processes and it’s awesome!

First, the class is taught online.  It’s a live, interactive class that is taught both in person and online, at the same time… This is exactly what I refer to as an “infinity product” – he is able to increase his reach of students without adding more desks or more classes.  He simply offers the class to online students.

Can you do this?

You might think, well I don’t sell a class… I can’t do this.

Well… what about this idea.  He mentioned that many real estate agents now offer virtual tours online.  So instead of sitting an open house, you are able to pull up a video that the agent recorded.  This stream lines the agent’s time by recording once, versus, taking people to the home individually.

Another benefit is safety.  There is no way to attack an agent who is alone with the prospective buyer in a home, if there is no in person tour.  Just something to think about.

So maybe you offer tours or sales of products that you could create one video and utilize over and over.  It just takes some creative “out of the box” thinking.  Sure, video technology has been available for several years, but maybe you’ve never thought to use it in “that” way..

I thought the idea video home tours instead of in person tours was genius.  What a great use of time!  And of course, personal visits are better… but this is a great “first” visit to narrow the list.   Safety and efficiency from one resource. That’s a great infinity product.

It’s fun to take a look at an entirely different industry and see how they use technology.  Often it spurs ideas you can use, too!

A new week!  New opportunities to boast about yourself.

Seriously, it is.  Today is Subject Matter Expert Day and we need to focus on positioning ourselves as the expert we are.

Again, sometimes this may seem difficult because we’re often taught not to talk about our accomplishments.

However, would you like to get surgery from the doctor that graduated from Medical School and hangs the diploma on the wall… or…

I can’t even come up with an “or” haha

But you see my point we really don’t get the opportunity to watch a surgeon in action, therefore, we rely on diplomas, articles in journals, word of mouth from others that have had the surgery by this doctor.

So how about your business, what can you do to position yourself as an expert of the “thing” that you do or sell.  After all, someone is giving you money for that “thing” so it’s best to be the expert in the transaction!

The reason I bring this up is I received a very clever representation of positioning yourself.

The salesperson of my most recent car purchase sent me (well, his email list) a two page PDF that was an announcement of his new location at the car dealership.  It included his mission statement, commitment to customers, and his awards.

Short story.  I am the WORST car buyer.  I just hate the whole process and everything about it.

This last car purchase was over 2 years in the “internal” process… I went back and forth on what I wanted… shopped online, rarely went anywhere to visit a car… it was more of a quest.

SO… I found the car, it was slightly over budget… I figured I’d drive there, test drive it… and go away for another 6 months.

Then I met Shawn.  I actually uttered “crap” under my breath.  I knew from the moment he walked toward me that I was going to buy the car.  Don’t ask me why… I have no idea, but something about that encounter was just different.

And I bought the car.

Now here’s the funny thing about Shawn… I knew he was good at his job, as represented on the test drive and the 7 trophies on the shelf behind his desk for top sales.  OR when you wandered over to the waiting area and found brass plate after brass plate on plaque after plaque with his name as top sales for the quarter.

But his humble PDF mentioned in one sentence that he achieved top sales nationwide.

That’s Shawn.

Sometime, when you get a moment, write up your PDF to your customers and just send it out.  It’s OK, we can talk about ourselves.

You see, I’m part of Shawn’s Tribe and I’m proud of it.

Never miss an opportunity to share your vibe.

Email, posts, websites… these are all great places to share your mission statement or history…

BUT look at this!

Vineyard Vines uses their shipping box as an opportunity to create their vibe in your home.  You open the cover and they share their story, right there, under the cover.  It opens up to look like a showpiece!

Now, it might be hard or expensive to replicate this exact style of box…

BUT that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

If you send a bill, include a small flier that shares your story, vibe, message… it’s “free” to mail something additional.

If you send a package – you can create a sticker and get a similar vibe!  Include your story in the package.

Use the same type of sticker and attach to your shopping bag.

There are endless ways to create this little bit of magic for your customers.

I love when I find fun examples online!  I’ve said it before that when you’re looking for a topic to write about, check the “National Day Of” calendar.

It can seem corny… but there are some very good inspirations in that list of days!

We recently celebrated World Ballet Day!  Most of the world probably woke up in the morning and went to sleep at night without ever knowing it happened.

BUT

If you’re a dance studio it’s a big deal!

It’s a great way to create a post to alert your students and their family.  It’s also a great way to spread the news about your industry.

It helps to build your tribe and that’s a great way to increase the value of the information you provide to them.

Get out there and check out your “National Day Of” calendar and start finding celebrations relevant to your business.

Episode #347 – Who is the Star of the Story?

I love this inspiration!  Have you ever thought about marketing in this light?  Your job is to make the customer feel smart.

Let’s do a little “shoe on the other foot” example.  Have you ever been a customer and felt dumb?  The sales person was so concerned about showing you the features and benefits, they forgot their job was to make sure YOU understood how it would add value to your life.

Your job, at all times, is to build trust using the Infinity Marketing Machine.

When you feel dumb you also feel insecure.  It’s not a great feeling.  But a terrific sales person will make you the star of the story!  They’ll go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.  This builds trust.

Now you might think… this is pretty easy to do in the “real world” because you have all sorts of verbal ques.  You can read the person in front of you and understand if they are “getting it”.  So what do you do online?

Play the role of beginner customer!  Start a role play with yourself.  Pretend you are both the beginner customer and the sales person.  Ask yourself all the questions you’ve ever been asked… and answer them.  NOW, in the role of marketing… make a large FAQ page of all of these questions.  Then when needed (and even when not needed) make videos!  Use both of these great tools and make the customer feel smart!

I had a customer visit for a tour this past weekend.  I started to explain how our boat storage program works… he said, “OH I know… I watched your video” — AWESOME.

Episode #325 – It Was National Day Of Coolers With Blenders! Really… It Was!

It’s not National Margarita Day anymore… but none the less, we’re going to talk about this super great post.  I received this in an email, I loved it… immediately!

Alright, this product is cool – I mean who doesn’t want a cooler that has a blender right on the top of it?  Awesome.

But even neater is the use of a “National Day Of” topic to promote their product!

A couple days ago it was National Margarita Day… you may expect a restaurant or bar to celebrate… but these guys did a brilliant job of promoting a cooler… A COOLER!  They also extended their discount until the end of the month.  If you’re reading this in 2018… go for it!  Discount still valid.

But seriously, the “National Day Of” is a great way to get ideas for posts and newsletters, you can get very creative!  Look beyond the obvious.

This reminds me… what are you going to promote with your business?

Tomorrow is: National Chocolate Covered Nut Day
Monday is: National Tell a Fairy Tale Day
