There’s a lot of ways to make money, traditionally it involves selling something that someone else wants.

The part that’s become radically different is the how.

I had a very interesting conversation with one of our customers today. He spoke of his friend who targets locations for photo shoots.  That just seems so crazy to me… someone’s actual job is to find locations to take photos for catalogs.

To me… taking a photo involves pulling my iPhone out of my pocket, getting the perfect angle, and click.  The conversation further progressed to internet sales and how his other friend is making lots of money online.

That seemed curious to me.  With so many opportunities out there, it’s neat to learn what people are doing… he started telling me about his online store.  Now there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just that it’s pretty traditional.

I said my newest project is making products digitally.  The product doesn’t exist until it’s purchased then an outside vendor creates it and ships it. Even photos of the product are simply digital manifestations.  Nothing exists.  No inventory.

He looked at me like I had 4 heads.

Then he said, “Oh that just doesn’t seem like it would work”

Your motivation for today?  Don’t listen to other people, ever.  🙂  Just because they don’t understand what we are doing or teaching here… doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant.  Building your list, turning it into a tribe of people that know like and trust you is one of the best things you’ll ever do for the sustainability of your business…

Trust yourself!  Always.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 716 – What Do Tariffs and Profit Centers Have to Do with Each Other?

Two days two interesting conversations.   Yesterday, a woman asked the question… if tariff’s go up what happens to my prices?  Today I chatted with a different woman about the advantages of an Infinity Product.

How are these two conversations related?  Because you need to be ready for anything.

My first convo about tariffs… here’s the deal, you can’t be so wrapped up in one profit center that things out of your control could destroy you… this also means weather, social media changes, tax changes, consumer preferences.

Don’t believe me on consumer preferences… I have a set of rhinestone stickers that go on the bottom of shoes for a wedding… one set says “I Do” the other set says “Me Too”… interesting.

Alright, so how do you combat tarriffs or taxes… you need to spread your risk.  Think of a convenience store attached to a repair facility.  Each function has a different purpose, if it’s raining and no one is using the car wash, people will buy gasoline and stop inside for milk.  It may seem like a tiny thing, but regardless of weather there is something they can sell.

You need to do this too.

Regardless of X you need to make money.

Then there’s today’s conversation – it’s the infinity product convo. I was explaining that every business needs an infinity product… that regardless of what business you have, you need the product that consistently produces itself without lots of effort.

This could be a heat press that you use to create T shirts, a gym membership to your exercise equipment, or even a digital book that you sell online.

What ever it happens to be, add it.  This will also help you develop another revenue stream to… again spread your risk for things you can’t control!

So yes, profit centers and tariff’s go together quite nicely.

Today – figure out which profit centers you have and ask how they help to spread your risk!  Then think about what infinity product as a profit center you can add to again, help spread your risk.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  But if it is broke?  You stop right…

What about when your computer has that little blue froot loop circle spinning round and round and round…

You unplug it.

This is a good analogy for YOU.  When you feel like the blue spinning circle you’ve got to stop and unplug.

Trust me.

Everyone needs to unplug.  The easiest way to recognize the need to unplug is when you are trying so hard to get something done, or to accomplish a task that you simply cannot do it.

It’s not easy, it’s not fun, and you’re really frustrated…that’s when you unplug.

Today I want you to recognize a moment when you need to get up and walk it off.  Go outside, take a little stroll.  OR at least get up and change your view.

Going back to what ever task you were working on will be more successful after you “unplug” – and you know it will be great — but often we’re really bad at recognizing when.. so that’s your task…

Recognize when.

I read today’s quote and came up with two different thoughts… the reasons you don’t put your expertise to use are…  1) analysis paralysis and 2) not sharing your gifts.

Both are bad alternatives…

So let’s start at the beginning with tribe building.

When you make the decision to build a tribe instead of attracting customers you transform your business from “one and done” to Infinity.

Why?

Because the tribe wants to stay with you.  They do not want to leave.  Therefore, you find things they want to buy and offer it to them.  The way you do this is through email.  It may seem overwhelming and that’s when you get stuck.  But, guess what…

This concept is easy and honestly, it takes effort, but it is not hard.

However… it does take time and a willingness to care.

You must care about what people want to learn, see, consume, and receive from you.  because this is the content you will share.  As the leader of your tribe, the more they view you as the expert, the better they will receive the information you send.

Therefore, you need to be willing to share your expertise.  Whether it’s a blog, vlog, podcast – just do something to share your knowledge.  Keeping the information to yourself is “safe” but sharing with someone else grows YOU.

Now…. back to the quote.

You are reading my blog because you’re looking for a better way to market to your customers… well, you have the expertise to own a business, so why not share it with your customers and convert them into a tribe?  Therefore, put your information to use and start sharing!

Happy 4th of July!

Have you ever tripped?  You’re walking along and… you don’t fall down… but you stumble, look around, laugh a little… and stop walking, never to walk again.

Of course not.

You keep walking.

It’s the same thing you do with your social marketing efforts.  When you create an email and you get really lame results, you never send another email.

Ugh. NO!

Send another email.  Just keep trying – this is normal… you tweak you try again.

Now that you’re in the try again mode, try this… recruit people for your email list by selling them things.

What?

Well, for example I sell personalized dog collars. Instead of running an ad for dog collars and hoping for the best…  what happens if you sell a “I love My Golden Retriever” T Shirt?  You make sure that you have a check box for your email AND you make sure you put your flier in the envelope.  You nurture this person because they like dogs!  Instead of a random ad to lots of people, you target the same people with a product and they pay to be a part of your email program.

This might sound “out there” or you might try it and trip… but it’s a core function of developing an infinity customer.  You attract people and offer products they want to buy!
