Earlier this week I talked about emotional words and yesterday I talked about putting your customer into your post… then I came across a photo I took earlier this spring.

WOW

Renting a car is kind of a mundane event.  When you travel you need to have ground transportation.  And it’s pretty easy to substitute the businesses that provide car rental…

Look what this one did to help you use the product – they used emotional words to help paint the picture of the emotion of their rental cars.

They don’t say convertible, 4 wheel drive, automatic transmission… it says scenic, fun, and family.

This is something you can do… maybe not on a wall as your back drop – but what about on your website or brochure?

Use the opportunity to share the words of the emotion of your product!

Here’s a great “small change” idea… dress for success!

It works for your personal appearance, so why wouldn’t it work with your products?  Well, it does!

When you take a little extra time to “spruce” up your appearance you will make more money!  The packaging is your silent salesperson… but that doesn’t mean they need to stay quiet.

Take a second look at your products and determine what you can do to give them a face lift.

I love the way this necklace looks!  It’s a neat piece of jewelry but it’s enhanced by the thoughtful packaging.

If you were shopping for a gift, especially someone with a May birthday, the necklace is nice, but the card it’s attached to makes you WANT to give this as a gift.

Start to view your packaging as the way you “dress” your products.  This also applies to your photos… update and express your style by telling stories with your photos!

There is one thing that has always surprised me… that’s when people are excited to have a “snow day”. Sure it’s fun to have time off.

But I’m speaking of “snow days” from school. OR you’re excited when the teacher lets you out early.

This baffles me.

You spend money for a class and then are thrilled when you don’t have to go! What kind of mindset is that? Its like paying for a dinner and being thrilled when they don’t bring dessert that you paid for… or you ordered a large popcorn and got a small.

You paid for it, you should be excited to get the full thing.

OK, enough of my rant, but I saw this post and thought to myself…

FINALLY SOMEONE THAT UNDERSTANDS IT.

 

Start looking at snow days as your time to get ahead! It’s like a catch up day or even a day you can work on the creative things you’ve been putting off. But it’s a great time, not to lay around and binge on Netflix… but you can make more money!

Look at the post. They are closed YET they thought ahead and said, let’s use this snow (lemon) and make lemonade snow (not yellow snow, that’s gross… but I knew you were thinking it!) haha

Alright, but look at the possibilities.

Many other people are taking their snow day to hang out, stuck with down time, and you know down time is occupied by surfing time… so why not go a step further and have your snow-day file! Come up with a GOOD promotion, like a BIG discount on crap you want to get rid of and clearance it out… shoot out an email to your list, put the post up, take out an ad and run a flash sale.

If it’s snowing where you are but your customer is in the sun… it’s OK. Maybe they’ll feel bad for you.

PS: I’ve got a whole weekend of potential snow days so I’ll try this and let you know what happens!

How’s your goal? Sounds a little funny.

But it’s real!

We talk about the weather… but rarely our goals!  And today is January 9th… 9 days after the “big” day for goal setting occurs.   HA! Do you remember your resolution, quite possibly it’s been forgotten.  If you’re still doing it, well… keep going!

Here’s my point.  Keep going.  If you feel like your dream is taking longer than it should maybe you need a little reality check.

Uh Oh, a reality check, what does that mean? It means maybe you don’t have the skill, talent, or people surrounding you that you need to succeed.  It’s not that the goal is unattainable, its just you need to stop and switch gears.

For example, if you want to lose weight, but it’s not working… maybe you need a trainer or a doctor.  You may need to surround yourself with people that don’t eat double chocolate cupcakes.

What I’m saying is… set the goal, make your mini-goals, and keep going.  Just remember that all of your care in working toward your goal just might need a little gear switch.  Don’t stop – just adjust.

What is value?  Think of a time you received a great deal, was it the price or was it the feeling you had from purchasing.

I was listening to one of my favorite books (again) today, The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles.  This is always a good book to “check-in” with, and I do every couple months.  And I reached this important reminder…

You must provide more use value than cash value received.

Let’s break it down.

Use value that’s what you “get out” or benefit from the product.  And cash value is what you pay.  Think about a book.  There’s paper bound together with ink on the pages.  The cash value is the amount you pay, and often you are paying more than the price of the raw paper/ink.

The use value is what you get out of the book!  Let’s say you read the letters on the page and it creates an idea that bonds you with your family, or it makes you $2,000.  Your use value far surpasses the cash value you paid!

This is what you need to strive for in your business.  When you determine how to compete with value you will never compete with price again.  The reason is because your customers who are comparing business will choose yours because of your perceived value!

Look for ways to increase value and look for ways to market value.  At our marina we historically wrote a suggested work order on every boat in our winter storage program.  We just did it and would send out, unannounced.  Now we market this service. It’s a huge value to our customers and it has raised our “use value” in their eyes.

One of the biggest motivators you’ll find is “why” – and not “why” as in “why me”.

The reason I’m bringing this up is because, well, yesterday some of you planned for an amazing day full of new starts!  Hopes and dreams at the ready…  it was New Years Day.

With resolutions in hand to stop swearing or not eating sugar.  Damn that Cinnamon roll before 9am!  All of your “hard work” and resolute nature were GONE.

Shoot gotta wait 364 more days.

OR do you?

Last week I tried to share some insight to taking your hopes to the next level by actually converting them from dreams to GOALS.  Setting specific milestones until you achieved success.  Gotta have the goals.

BUT more important is the WHY.  What the heck did you want to give up swearing and sugar?

Do you think swearing makes you sound bad?  Do you not want to sound bad?  Is sugar undermining your health?  Do you get dizzy?

If you do not want to be dizzy and you do not want to sound bad… these are WHY’s… even stronger “why’s” if you swear and eat sugar in front of your kids you are not a good role model and send mixed messages to them.  This is also a powerful WHY.

Also.  Just because you swore and ate the cinnamon roll does not mean all hope is lost.  Just start over.  Consider it a “cheat” day and make better decisions with your WHY strongly in you mind.  Success will follow!

Today we’re looking at the 4th “C” of the Infinity Marketing Machine, Customers.  The concept of customers is easy.  You have people that buy stuff from you.

But… the Infinity Marketing Machine as a part of Tribeology switches your thinking from “one and done” to “infinity”.  This means you want to keep your customers around for a while.

AND this brings me to Newton.  He asked Why.  With a bunch of apples on the ground, he wanted to know why.

Don’t you?  (I’m not a real science type gal so in terms of apple… yeah, I’m part of the millions)

BUT

When it comes to customers… heck yeah!  I want to know WHY.

Why do they stick around and why is it important… I can share with you the magic of creating a tribe… but if you don’t believe in WHY it doesn’t matter.

Let’s explore why on customers.

Most likely you’re tired of spending $$$$$$ on Facebook.  You’ve optimized, tweaked, and studied your numbers, photos, and words for your ads, but your stuck.

Here’s why… they don’t think you give a poo what happens to them once they click “yes” to your ad!  Cold truth… but WHY should they stick around?

Now, compare that to all of the work and effort you must do to build a tribe.  You think about what they find useful, you provide it for them consistently, and you position yourself as an industry leader… then they stay.

SO we have two why’s.  The first Why is why do customers stay… and the second why is why you want them to stay.

They stay because you want them to stay.

As soon as you embrace this… then you can become the vibe behind the tribe.  Believe it or not… you are giving off a vibe.  If your vibe is “I don’t care if they stay” they won’t.  If you give off a vibe that “This is the coolest place to spend time and money” they’ll stay.

The choice is yours.
