“Fake it till you make it.” we’ve all heard this catch phrase.  But here’s the scoop…  I predict something interesting is going to happen, and I think it will happen soon.

I believe all things fake will be punished.

There are four solid components of creating credibility for your business reputation.  They are to be trustworthy, consistent, competent, and genuine.

Do you trust a doctor that comes into your pre-op room and says, “OH we’ll get rid of that tonsil problem in no time” but you’re actually there for knee replacement?  Nope.  This would inspire absolutely no confidence.

These four components work in harmony.

However, we often operate (no pun intended) from the stand point of “fake it till I make it” – and most of the time it’s OK to fake the process.

For example, you’re not a consistent on your social media, it doesn’t feel natural.

Well… pretend you are! You’ve got to get into the habit and start.  Previously, you may never have been consistent, now you trying – however, until you are solid with the habit you’re “faking it”

But you can never “fake” the credibility stuff like your education, credentials, expertise, or social proof.

It’s the last one that I’m referring to in the “I believe all things fake will be punished” very soon.

Mark my words.  Coming soon the backlash against all things that have “tricked” us will be enormous.

The concept of “reality TV” is a great example.   This is not reality.  It’s scripted actors.  We are drawn into the “lives” but it’s not real.

It’s like “faking” positive reviews.

OR it’s like selling a car but instead of taking a photo of your current 2013 car you use the manufacturer’s stock photo from when it’s new.

I predict we are going to have a very big swing back to all things simple, trustworthy, and verifiable.

It just feels like we’re going to hit an era when scandals start to emerge.  We’ve seen it in the past in isolated cases when trusted leaders, officials, volunteer organizations, corporations, foundations, political leaders fall, but imagine when you get several of those tied together… it’s going to be a very loud thud.

How can you weather this?  Build genuine credibility now.  You may already be honest and genuine.  But really push this as your main talking points.

Look to where your traffic is coming from and build your own data base.

All things “fake” will be off limits that means traffic from paid sponsors, such as influencers.  As I’m observing trends, I think this backlash against fake will be huge.  When we start to doubt the main leaders like political and religious leaders or we start to doubt trusted charities and corporations the next to fall will be anything that doesn’t “feel” real like celebrities, reality TV, and that leads to micro-celebrities (influencers).  Many are real, but getting paid to pitch a product might turn off an important revenue stream for your business.

You need to prepare for this now.

Build your own audience and do nothing but build trust.

If you don’t like sales… if you don’t like going up to someone and saying “buy this” – how about a new approach.  This is what is fun about the Infinity Marketing Machine.

Making the decision to build a tribe and then finding products to offer them turns your efforts from “one and done” into “infinity”.

The “one and done” effort is your traditional sales.  This is when you ask someone to buy something… and by “ask” I mean, you have something for sale, whether your ask is by actually talking or it’s simply the process of writing text… it’s still a transaction based relationship.  It’s “one and done”

This is how “infinity” is much different.

When you transform to collecting and maintaining a list of people that you bond ou all of a sudden become the leader that shares knowledge and offers products you know your tribe wll want.

This is marketing and it’s marketing that doesn’t feel like marketing.  It feels more like relationship marketing. You develop the relationship with the intention of “infinity” and you keep going.

This is best done by offering content that is appreciated by your tribe and you do this on a regular basis.

Today I have sent out my newsletter to my Pontoon Girls – and I’ve created this blog for my Tribeologists.  I’m offering you content that is useful without it actually feeling like a post… it’s giving you information that is useful, helps you bond with me, and teaches you how to utilize the skill to your advantage with your tribe…

“Make a customer, not a sale.”

Do you agree with today’s inspiration, “make a customer, not a sale”?

Say “yes” and it’s a good thing, right?  Say “no” and it’s a bad thing, right?  Well, maybe we should flip this upside down and say, “we do not want to make a customer”

EEk!

What does that mean?

As we’ve learned over the years we want to make customers.  Build that relationship so they’re not buying a product but they’re a relationship.

Well…

Wheat happens if you transform from this “one and done” transaction basis of business to the tribe process.

Instead of being “nice” until they buy… let’s be nice AFTER they buy.  We need to focus on the long game, the difference between a sprint and a marathon.  When we promote our brand and attract people that want to hang out with us, we can build something very exciting…. and that’s an Infinity Customer!

I like focusing on a customer versus a sale – but I REALLY like focusing on a tribe instead of a customer.

My favorite Tribe Techniques

1- Consistent communication.  Pick the way you want to communicate, blog, vlog, or podcast.  Then pick the schedule – is it twice a week, three times a weeks… maybe everyday?  Just pick it and do it!

2- Create your ideal client or follower – make a detailed list of their characteristics and go find them!

3- Make a list of 10 topics that your followers will be interested in…

Then repeat the list, make your content, keep monitoring the ideal client, and keep the topics coming!
