Oh I found a fun “real world” example!  I am so excited to share it…

The reason it stands out to me is because communicating with your target audience is the most important thing you can do.

Let’s update that sentence.

Effectively communicating with your target audience is the most important thing you can do.  The reason I say “effectively” is because you can communicate by confusing.  The last thing you want to do is confuse people.

The following ad popped up on my Facebook the other day and I think it’s the most brilliant ad I’ve ever seen…

My mom’s comment about it was, “I don’t get it”

So we both looked at the same ad… while I thought it was amazing… it didn’t speak to her.  How is that possible? It’s the same ad!

Well, this ad is risky.

He’s a builder, his company makes garages.  In an advertisement, people typically expect to see examples of his work!

Instead he has opted to show old black and white photos of outdated garages.  AND he’s not using these photos as a “before” to show a glitzy “after” of his completed work.

Nope. He’s just out there on social media sharing an emotion.  Sharing a dream. Sharing a vision.

His rational behind hiring him to build a garage is that the garage is the place in your home where you can make that big dream come true!  (Just like Disney, Harley, or even Amazon)

It’s brilliant!  This is tribe building.  The builder is attracting people that “get” his vision!

My mom, now understands the ad, but I still don’t think she “gets” the emotion – she’d rather see the traditional glamorous photo of the new garage.  But, there’s nothing wrong with that!  This builder ain’t the leader of HER tribe.

This ad just goes to show that you can control who you attract to find your ideal customers!

I received an email the other day asking me to select my entree on my upcoming flight.

It was one of those breakthrough ideas I had to share.  The reason… people like their first choice.  So if you have an opportunity to give them a “select ahead of time” it makes their experience a little less stressful.

Seriously.

I can imagine this idea took some logistics to pull off.  They had to attach your selection to the reservation and print.  But, what a neat way to wow your customers!

 

You see… I’m a really picky eater.  I hate going to places with “food choices” like conferences or airlines… it creates stress.  You wonder IF you’ll be able to find something you like and worse yet… you watch the choices slowly go away.

I’ll put it like this.

You all know I love chocolate chip cookies.  I mean love them.   You also know that I think putting peanut butter into a good sugar cookie base is just down right mean.  GROSS.  Peanut butter only goes on bread.  (told you I’m picky) — but I really can’t stand peanut butter cookies.

So imagine my stress if you can see the two trays of cookies from across the room and you LOVE one choice and you HATE the other.   When you watch the Love Love Love cookies leaving… UGHHH it’s maddening.

When the airline offer the opportunity to select the meal ahead of time – it builds the brand, differentiates them, becomes another service offering and strengthens the tribe.

It’s super simple.  Just ask your customers what they want!

I just discovered something.  I’ve been trying to teach to a “system” or “process” called Tribeology.

That’s wrong.

I just discovered that Tribeology is actually a way of life.

Hear me out.

The reason I discovered this is due to one of the 4 online seminars I’m taking right now… the task was to write “my” story.  The reason I’m selling the thing I’m selling.

Well, I just chronicled my journey in formulating our Profit Center, the Boat Club.  It was a very slow growth process… until I implemented Tribeology.

Now here’s the secret, I didn’t know it was Tribeology at the time.  Looking back I can easily see it, but in the middle of it, I had no idea.

I thought I was just doing email marketing.

And I was.

But email marketing done at the same time you implement the 5 C’s and target your most loved customer will transform into Tribeology.

It’s not a process, this is a way of life.

The reason we struggle with content and having to “find something” to post is because we haven’t completely committed to the “way of life” that Tribeology requires.

Commit.

Utilize your marketing skills but Live Tribeology.  This is your vibe.  This is your tribe. This is your business.

Adopt this vibe throughout all aspects of your everyday transactions and it will become easy to post, enjoyable to communicate, and exciting to repeat.

and that brings me full circle to today’s quote…

Five Simple Words

“if not now then when”

Facebook was “down” today.  If your whole list and economic security has been built on their platform, today you did not make sales.  Today you are NOT in control.

Do you want to be dependent on Facebook or risk a Google smack?

Or do you want financial freedom by attracting an ideal customer, transforming from “one and done” to “Infinity”, and controlling your future by cultivating your private list as an asset of your business?

Commit.

IF NOT NOW THEN WHEN

Do you have the best intentions, but can’t find the time?  It’s like when you have an amazing idea, you think it will be great, but then “poof” the time passes.

For example, I have a brilliant idea for the Christmas holiday shopping season and next thing you know, it’s December 23rd…

OR

You want to do a welcome to summer event, and the ice doesn’t go off the lake till early May (not that I’m still bitter about that happening last year)

Here’s the deal.  You can make most things happen.  But you need a plan.  And that starts with old fashion paper and a pen.  Just brainstorm the ideas you want and the results you hope to achieve.  (the results on paper should be the motivator you need to get going)

I love using this type of plan/reward get going style when I think of my email list and the creation of content.  Not content you create on a consistent basis.  Special content… for example my booklet, The 5 C’s of the Infinity Marketing Machine.  Content that is designed to attract people to take action.

SO… using the plan/reward/ get going style… this type of booklet has a reward of growing an email list of people I’m trying to attract.  It’s hard work, but worth it when it’s finished!

NOW, here’s our “Big Money Small Idea” I got as an email from Pillsbury.

They sent out an email “Get your free gift” – it’s a download recipe cookbook.  They personalize the email and even include the day I joined their list.

Why would you want to send an email like this?

You already have someone on your list… what’s the point?

You will gain engagement.  This is a big deal.

More important is the result.  You can get rid of people with dead emails or that do not engage… emails do cost money.  If you are sending out several thousand emails that are not opened, you are being charged.

SO… you might want to create a neat download and send it out to your list – you’ll find out who is engaged and ready to receive your information, build your tribe!  HOWEVER, it is also a fantastic way to clean up your list and save money!
