Episode #242 – Promote Yourself, Start Now.

“You always become whoever you think you are.”

Today.  Fake it until you make it. There are times that when you are promoting yourself online that you feel odd, strange, and even insecure.  But when you are creating your subject matter expert status you need to use today’s inspiration as your guide.

If you are getting paid, you are an expert.

It doesn’t matter what you are doing, if you are receiving money in exchange for your services you are the expert in that relationship. It could be a product you create yourself or a service you provide, someone that doesn’t have that product or service wants it and you have it… therefore, you are the expert.

When you decide to believe that you are an expert my Monday topic of Credibility will become easy!  But until then, let’s just fake it.

Here’s the deal, you need to own you corner of the web.  The reason you need to spend time on this is because building trust is vital to your relationship bonding within the Infinity Marketing Machine.  When you create and send your content via an email newsletter, the people reading it want to know that you are truthful and knowledgeable.

Whether it’s acquiring new skills and education or achieving honors, you must promote these on your website.  If you feel odd doing this, put yourself into your customer’s shoes and think… do you like looking on a website and seeing honors/awards skills/education of the people that work there?  Sure you do!  Therefore, stop being shy and promote yourself!

Episode #200 – Elevate Your Subject Matter Expert Status With These Three Tips

“Procrastinate Now – Don’t put it off” – sounds silly, but there’s a little truth in it when it comes to creating your Subject Matter Expert status online.   You are a Subject Matter Expert and at the same time you have to constantly enhance your resume to be a Subject Matter Expert.  Think about that, the expert needs to keep fresh on knowledge… sounds a lot like starting your goal of procrastinating now!

If you want a bigger presence online, it’s time to claim your corner of the internet.  It’s the best way to control your destiny.  This type of social credibility is a powerful tool.  It helps to give people seeking you out an idea that you are real.  Now, you automatically create it when you put a website online for your business.  But, what I’m referring to in this post is YOU.

You need to build the credibility of yourself, as an individual, here’s why.

No matter what you do in a business or in a job, one day you will be done with that chapter of your life.  You need to move on to other things.  I keep saying… YOU.  If you plan to do consulting in the field you are currently working in, wouldn’t it make sense to start building your credibility now?  Sure it would.

It will help you now and it will help your 5 years from now self.

  • A couple ways to help accomplish this goal is to start by participating in your industry leadership. This will start by attending conferences and networking, but eventually you may choose to submit proposals for presentations or even serving on boards.  It’s a great way to get your name known within the industry.  This may even bring opportunities to contribute written articles for publications.   All of these help to boost your credibility.

  • The faster way is to use social media to share your thoughts on your topic/industry. Post happenings or current events in your industry.  Form opinions about upcoming issues and share your vision for the future. People within the industry and outside the industry will follow.  This following builds your credibility.

  • Finally, let’s blog or podcast. This is one of my favorite topics.  Create an area of information on the web that is all about your knowledge.  Do this by writing or speaking!  You can easily share information and it becomes searchable.  When people are looking for a thought leader they’ll find you.

Again, being a thought leader in your industry is a great way to get the exposure needed to elevate you above the rest of the crowd and build the credibility online that helps in your real world business.  Start to build this part of your Subject Matter Expert status, today.

Episode #188 – Subject Matter Expert – Choose A Platform You Can Be Proud Of

What is the best way to communicate your message as a subject matter expert?  The answer may surprise you.  The best way to communicate your message is to communicate it!

In addition to your general website, Linked-in, or Facebook page you’ll want to have an outlet for your thoughts.  This can be one of three ways; blog, podcast or vlog.

Let’s explore.

If you enjoy writing and communicating your thoughts via typing is awesome, then blog.  A blog is simply a current website.  You create your posts about a centralized topic and they are housed in one site. Typically you can categorize (tag) the post to make it easier for fans to find relevant information. WordPress has been easy to use, check it out.

Podcasting is a blast if you enjoy talking but don’t want to be on camera.  The good news is it’s fairly  easy to record a podcast, depending on your expectations.  I use my phone to record and upload.  The harder thing is to not know exactly who your followers are… Apple keeps this a secret.  So while you can build a nice listener base, unless you capture them in another method, you won’t know who they are.

Vloging is a video blog.  It’s a great way to easily record messages and your audience builds a loyalty to you.  It makes you relatable and again, it is something that can be done with your phone… but the hard thing is pressing record.  If your self-conscious about being on camera, practice recording but not publishing.  If it stresses you out, don’t do it.  You need to enjoy the daily routine!  Don’t force yourself to do something you hate.  This should be fun.

The reason you need to communicate your thoughts via one of these three channels is to get your message “out there” share your information and position yourself as a subject matter expert.  It’s great to focus on other parts of the site such as honors and awards. But, when it comes right down to it, what you have to say is the most important part of your brand.

Pick the right platform that helps you communicate your thoughts and messages.

The best part about picking your platform is you will develop your style.  As you can tell in my writing, I have a conversational style.  It’s not perfect writing. But it gets my message across. I choose to share information.  If I focused on my writing perfection, I’d never publish anything!

So my advice, pick the platform and start.  Do it now.
