If you are super competitive you’ll read this quote and think… YES!  I totally get it… never give up!”

But let’s look at this a little different.

I enjoy designing artwork for my promotional items.  In fact, the T shirts you see in the ads under my blog are a perfect example.

But you know what?  It takes me forever to do a design… I tweak and tweak and hours later I’m done.

This is NOT the best use of my time.  So I started using Fiverr.  Now Fiverr is not without issues, but when you are careful and find a great designer, your life becomes easier.

It’s not that I gave up – but I started working smarter. I found that I could find a designer and have 10 designs created overnight instead of myself spending hours on each and every design.

When it seems like you “give up” it is in fact, winning.  This is one of the skills that is the most important to learn. You must “give up” areas where you are not the expert and seek an expert.

Sometimes our topic of Subject Matter Expert doesn’t involve us marketing ourselves as the expert, but rather, relinquishing our lack of expertise to someone who is much much better!

I love this idea. It’s the ability to set the stage and create a fun memory.

This photo is actually from a restaurant – but there’s a long narrow hallway on the approach to the main dining and host stand.

It’s the perfect opportunity to set the stage.  As a reminder “set the stage” is the time to draw your customers into your experience.

One of the best examples of this is an amusement park ride at Disney World.  The waiting lines wind around and around but at the same time they use lighting and sound to help you get into the spirit of the ride.

This hallway set a quirky vibe by having oversized scrabble pieces on the wall… it’s the opportunity for customers to spell words, take photos, in essence… be quirky, too!

How can you help “set the stage” for your customers?  Can you theme signage, use words on your website that draw or direct your customer to the right experience…

At the marina we offer a bottle of water and orientation session to help our customers make the transition from the hustle of driving to the relaxation of a boat ride.

Have you ever thought about teaching your customers?

Odd question, right… we normally think a customer comes and buys stuff then leaves.  With the Infinity Marketing Machine we teach that we want the customer to stay and join our tribe.

Well… I got an email today and it made me think… is Etsy a tribe?  After all, as a seller you list items for sale, and that’s it right?

But it’s in Etsy’s best interest to have you sell things so you continue to list things.

I think that means they want you around for a while, so sellers on Etsy are a tribe. 🙂

The email today got me thinking about how we can all teach our customers things… the email I received from Etsy was a wonderful Top 8 hints to selling on Etsy.   Here it is:  Etsy seller handbook  It’s actually teaching you HOW to use their product.

This type of content, right now, as we head into the holiday selling season is critical to the success of the small businesses on Etsy and in turn critical to the infinity customer factor that Etsy has with it’s sellers.

Make Sense?

What’s good for their sellers is good for Etsy.

So at your business, within your tribe, ask yourself, “What’s good for my tribe?”  Teach them HOW to use your product, business, parking lot — make things easy so they want to stick around for a long long time!

Much of my energy in writing this blog is to help you find your reason “why” to share content.

The reason I focus on this is because when you’re sitting at your desk, alone, with orders, bills, and other things… it’s hard to carve out time to write a post.  You know you should, but it’s also easier to not do it.

Right?!

So one good reason to provide content your customers like… and make it rewarding for you is to understand that sometimes, the information you provide can help the reader make a decision that changes their path in life.  I’m not going to say “change their life” that’s a little far reaching, although it can happen…

But your business is in operation to serve.  Even if you think “it’s just a gift store – this is a little dramatic” – hear me out.

Let’s use the gift store example.  Someone walks into your gift store and buys a baby gift – you are serving them.  They are buying the gift as a memento of their personality to share their thoughts.  You are serving them, especially if you make it convenient by gift wrapping OR suggesting other items (like batteries) – as small as this may be… it’s a big deal that you care.  Have you ever bought a gift or received one and not had the proper batteries. OH so Frustrating!

Back to content.

It can do the same thing as remembering the batteries.

My fall back example is typically potty training.  You have a tired parent at 3am searching for the best (or any) idea to get their kid to stop wetting the bed… they come across your article and info product… you are serving them.  Your ONE good idea can change their journey!

Kind words in a post… a reminder of events this weekend… even your sale.  This all serves your customer!  It’s important to share your knowledge, even when you’re tired, or think the info is not important…

Have you ever been flipping through your social media feed only to get distracted by one post that makes you cry, laugh, or think?

YES!

This is the reason you are providing content.

You are not here to go through a check list… your here to serve!

Today try keeping this mindset as you make the most amazing content filled post you can… imagine the reader and their reaction.
