TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 878 – Bring Your Avatar To Life

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Tuesday: Content and Consistency

Quote: “Change the world one person at a time.”

Why are you creating content?  Why do you spend time creating a post… or better… why are you creating an Infinity Marketing Machine?

It’s a lot of work to come up with a theme in the hopes that a tribe will be attracted to what you say… so much so that they will buy items from you.

So why do it?

Well the last part of the statement, of “buy items from you” might have something to do with it…

It’s fun to share information via your email or social media… but it can get very overwhelming to create content without a plan… then the “you know you should do it” guilt starts to overwhelm you… then you quit.

Today’s quote may help put content into perspective for you.

We ant to create content that us useful to our customers and draws them into our tribe… well, what may help is to think about that ONE person and talk to just them.

Talk to one person and change their life.

Create content for one person and change their life.

Make that one person the most important person in your day.  You can do this.

The hard part about putting content out that is the behind the scenes or you struggle and “throw something out there” is that you are creating content for you.  You are doing because YOU feel like you need to.

Switch gears and write something for that one person on your list… sure others will read it too, but it is specifically targeting that imaginary avatar.

Well, bring the avatar to life.

Do it by writing and creating content for them!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 872 – Forklift Magic

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Tuesday: Content and Consistency

Quote: Find your niche and fully exploit your unique strengths.

Yesterday we talked about being a Subject Matter Expert in a specialty.   The same advice holds for the content you create and customers you attract.

You need to find your niche.

The best thing you can do is find your unique selling proposition (USP) – the USP is the thing that makes you… YOU.

My dog is a unique soul.  He has many “moods” and regularly goes to doggy day care.  I love it because he gets really tired.

However, just like a human… there are days that Mr. Pancake is moody.  I’m not kidding — he doesn’t want to listen and occasionally I’ve said, “nope… no day care today” – but there are times, I’ll bring him and just say, “it’s a Pancake kind of day”.

The employees all know what that means.

I refer to it as “the magic that is Pancake”

Well… you need to find your magic.  The USP is your magic!  It’s the thing that makes your business special.

Maybe it’s a clean bathroom… or a bathroom with music… or a bathroom that tells jokes.  I went to a restaurant in California that had a joke track playing instead of music.  It was awesome.

It could be the theme, vibe, or feeling you get when you visit a business.

At the marina, our USP is our forklifts.  We have a service where we launch boats, like a valet service, but we do it with a one-hours notice.  However, when you visit, you will see the forklifts… for kids it’s a big deal… for adults – they’re also impressed.

But forklifts are the thing that make our marina different from other marinas around our lake.

When we make content we focus on forklifts.  It is the magic that is us.   Our literature has forklifts, our website has forklifts, our letterhead… and even our sweatshirts.

Find your USP, make it your magic, and include it in your content!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 866 – Sometimes You’ll Flop

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Tuesday: Content and Consistency

Quote: “The key to victory is not just to be good, but to be consistently good.”

The other day I was watching YouTube… OK, it wasn’t so much I was watching YouTube — it was more like something came up in my feed, then something else came up in my feed, and then I was watching double trampoline world championships.

I don’t consider this binge watching…

It’s more like you just get sucked into one thing and another and all of a sudden you’re like “what the F am I watching?”

I suppose this could be a post about content… but I’m going with the consistency angle.

While intrigued at the double trampoline competition — and this is it… they use the 80’s style aerobic mini-tramps that Richard Simmons used to bounce on… but they do these absolutely amazing super whallop twisting turning flipping thingies!

Then they land on the second trampoline and do it again!

But sometimes they fall.

World Champion Level SUPER tumblers… fall.

It’s like watching an Olympic Skater…. fall, a basketball player miss a free throw, the golfer who has the ball hang on the corner of the cup…

Failure happens.

But failure can only happen when you try, but typically when you consistently try the failure becomes less and less… you consistently become better and better!

This means… that you need to be consistent in your content.  Sometimes you’ll have a flop.

The post won’t get the response you think it should or hoped it would… but just like the trampoline fails – you will bounce back… (haha – that was a pun)

But seriously, be consistent, keep going – not everything will be amazing.  But with consistency you will produce better content that will bond your tribe!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 860 – Install A Cookie Grandma

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Tuesday: Content and Consistency

Quote: “Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things is the best way to grow.”

OK, this is a bizarre content & consistency post… I’m breaking pattern because I wanted to share my experience yesterday.  But I promise, I’ll get to a point that is useful!

I went on a quest to buy pickled herring.  If you know what Pickled Herring is… uff da, you’ve gotta be Norwegian.

Pickled Herring something I can’t stand the smell of, let alone eat… but there I was looking to purchase it.

It was also torture to buy it because it was 12/23 and I typically adhere to a rule of NEVER going to a store 3 days before Christmas and 2 days after Christmas…

Why deal with the frustration.

But there I was: tired, annoyed, cranky, and seriously pissed off.

Having ZERO idea where to look… and dodging “mommies” with packs of frozen vegetables skidding off their carts, I started texting ANYONE for help, my actual text, “It’s a complete sh*t show here… where the F do I find Pickled Herring?”  Just note… my actual text was not edited… and had a few other choice words inserted, too.

No sooner did I press send, that I turned around to find this lovely “grandma” type woman wearing a kerchief.  And I can’t make this up… on her apron it read “Holiday Helper” and she was carrying a tray of cookies in front of her outstretched with both hands.  It was “floating” and they were chocolate chip!

I was SOOOOOO confused.

“Oh Dear… how can I help you?” she said in this sweet crackling voice”.

Where the crap did she come from?  I actually looked around to see if there were TV cameras somewhere.

I mean – if you’ve read my blog before… I love chocolate chip cookies.  And there was a whole magic floating tray of chocolate chip cookies coming my way…

This totally boggled my mind.

The only thing missing was the sound of harps from this angel.

But seriously… WTF?

Well… this store, knew it was going to be busy so they had these ambassadors with cookies to help you find what you needed.

Did I find Pickled Herring… not really, she brought me to herring – but after that 4 other employees, shouting to each other – “She’s Looking For Pickled Herring” – which they may as well have yelled, “She needs ______!” (fill in your favorite personal aid product) helped me walk about 50 miles to the location.

When we finally found Pickled Herring display – the entire shelf was EMPTY.  There are lots of Norwegians in this town.

I needed to go to 4 different grocery stores to find the treasure, but I did finally find it.

So what does this have to do with anything…

Later in the day, I told our Office Manager about cookie grandma, I was still griping – and he said in this light bulb of inspiration voice, “Holiday Helper… that’s a fantastic idea – we should do that on the 4th of July at the marina – but instead of cookies they should have a tray of slushies”

He actually wants to get rid of the cookies.

What is wrong with him?

COOKIES!

But yes, it is a great idea.  When you know you’ll have a high pressure day, plan ahead, bring in extra people to help your customers have a quality experience.

Your website needs this too… put grandma with cookies somewhere on the page, meaning – make sure your search box is clearly visible or that you have a “click here” feature to get help navigating your site…

OR my favorite – put your phone number, right in the mast of your website.  Often I visit a  website just for a phone number to call someone.

Make sure your content is easy to find and easy to use… Install a cookie grandma where you can!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 854 – What Time Does Your Dog Go Out?

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Tuesday: Content and Consistency

Quote: “Commit to developing positive habits for success and happiness.”

What time did you get up?  Did you make your bed?  What did you have for Breakfast?

These are probably easy questions to answer — and Monday to Friday it’s probably fairly consistent answers…

However, on the weekend or holidays – you may get up later and eat fancier.   Then you feel sluggish and it might be hard to get to sleep for Monday because you woke up late Sunday….

Why is this the case… because you broke pattern.

I love to think about my dog when it comes to consistency.  Often I’ll be working on my computer and without fail, at 10:00 he starts putting his head on my hands so I can no longer type.  To him, when he hears the sound of the TV news, it’s time to go out for potty and then sleepy time.

If this doesn’t happen, he gets very agitated.  Because his habit is broken.

Think of your social media the same way.

You’re not creating content for the heck of it, or to check off some imaginary check list.  You’re creating content to engage and teach your tribe. They want to hear from you.

When you are inconsistent they get agitated like my dog, or they get off pattern like weekend sleep schedules.

Keeping a consistent schedule of information flowing to your tribe is the best way to build trust. They know what and when to expect a message because that’s what you’ve always done!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 848 – Sounds Dumb, But Your Customers Do Enjoy Seeing You Shovel Snow…

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Tuesday: Content and Consistency

Quote: No matter what you do, your job is to tell your story.” – Gary Vaynerchuk

What’s your story?  Let’s back up…What is a story?

The power of marketing stories can escape us as we talk about a product features and benefits.

I was talking to a customer today and relayed the basics of our Dry Stack Storage — I’ll back up… Dry Stack is where we store boats on racks in a warehouse.  We store them three boats high… then use a forklift to retrieve the boat an put in the lake with a 1 hour notice.

SO back to my story

(see how I did that)

I was on the phone explaining the hours and specs of the boat needed to fit.

Well, that’s just not fun.

What’s more fun is showing a video of how we insulated the warehouse (might not sound exciting – but it is a cool video)

Another story was watching the wedding proposal that took place on our dock where our crew helped decorate the customer boat…

Stories happen all day long.

It could be the story of receiving a new shipment of products and unboxing them.

Lots of times we think stories are the history of our business or our about me section on the website.

And that’s not a content story.

The content story is the thing that allows you to relate, one on one, to your customer.

It’s not history, it’s not features/benefits, it’s not hours of operation– your friend doesn’t want to hear that… your friend wants to know that you had a cake for your co-worker’s birthday, your friend wants to see a video of you shoveling the snow on the sidewalk outside your store, your friend wants to see your behind the scenes action.

This is a great way to get your customer to bond with you and convert that customer into a loyal tribe member!

You are responsible for telling your story… we no longer “sell ourselves” we share stories.

Today take a minute to tell one story about something… anything… just tell it!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 842 – The Hip Bone Is Connected to the Tribe Building Bone… Really It Is!

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Tuesday: Content and Consistency

Quote: “Be your own motivation.”

One of the hardest thing to do when you are creating content is not actually writing or filming one episode… it’s the 72nd… in a row.   Being consistent, despite your best effort, is a chore.

Knowing that… how the heck do you deal with it?

Well, there is a part of you that has to WANT to create content.  (roll eyes).  Yep it’s that simple.  But in simplicity is a terribly complicated issue and that’s “what is your motivation.”

However, I’ve always felt it better to understand “WHY” instead of “WHAT” — For example, if you’ve been following the journey of my mom in the past couple months, you know she took a fall and broke her ankle.

She’s spent quite a bit of time on bed rest and also in a wheelchair due to the non-weight bearing doctor’s orders.  As it heals.. she now has lots of physical therapy exercises.

PT exercises are great, if you do them.  And they’re painful, hard, and kind of seem “pointless”… right?  At the beginning when you’re laying on your side doing leg lifts they seem silly.

My mom knew she should do the exercises, but wasn’t super “on board” with the entire process.  Her “what” is to walk.  She will do the exercises because she wants to walk… but WHY is she doing the specific exercises?  I’m not referring to the why of spending time with grandchildren, or going golfing with friends… I’m talking even more basic.

Why the heck am I doing THIS exercise where I clench my glutes or clentch my lower stomach muscles?  It’s my friggin ankle that’s the problem….  Don’t laugh… if you’ve hurt ANYTHING, like your back, hip, foot… you’ve done this tummy/butt clentcher PT exercise and at the time it seems bewildering.

My mom today said, “this just seems so dumb.”  And I realized she had no idea WHY the exercise was important to her “what” goal of walking.  As soon as she understood that core strength starts with the tummy/butt clenches and core strength is vital to making the hips move for walking… BOOM.  She had a new motivation.

Now that’s a long example, however, when you’re writing content… it’s not that you’re torturing yourself to write or even film an episode just because you want to be consistent… NOPE.  It’s about the communication aspect with your tribe.  They NEED to hear from you to develop a level of trust with you and the consistency is super duper important because if they’re going to invest time with you they want to make sure you’ll stick around!

Much like the butt bone is connected to the hip bone is connected to the walking bone… the content bone is connected to the consistency bone that’s connected to the trust bone.

And all of that is connected to the tribe building bone.
