How can you serve your customer?  How can you lead your tribe? Two different ways to say the same thing.

Often I’ll write on Tuesdays with the message that you need to create content your tribe wants and needs… and I leave you to figure it out.

Most people jump on the post bandwagon and that’s great! It’s always useful to have posts to keep in touch.

But you can provide more!

The good news is I’m not going to leave you at that… haha

If you look at each of my posts, depending on the day I have a Free Download — it’a a PDF that has useful information related to the daily topic.

So how can you use this type of idea?

Start to develop information that can be downloaded and used later.  This could be recipes, fact sheets, or print outs. Something I’d like to do is create a “boating invitation” which our pontoon rental customers would receive that they could email to their friends.  That would be totally useful (I think I should probably make time to do it!)

OK…

So what can you do?

Think about how you can use these in your business for your tribe..

Create a downloadable report that compares new or old products… make a check list of what to do or bring, make a calendar or planning pages, Lesson plans, a video training series, template, a challenge, spread sheet/calculator, round-up on a topic, beautiful photo to frame, resource list (like area restaurants), wallpaper for your phone… and on and on!

That’s 12 new ideas for greater impact downloads and tribe bonding giveaways!  That gives you one idea for each month for an entire year!

Can you think of how to use each idea at your small business?  YES!  Take that idea and run… spoil your tribe.

If you don’t like sales… if you don’t like going up to someone and saying “buy this” – how about a new approach.  This is what is fun about the Infinity Marketing Machine.

Making the decision to build a tribe and then finding products to offer them turns your efforts from “one and done” into “infinity”.

The “one and done” effort is your traditional sales.  This is when you ask someone to buy something… and by “ask” I mean, you have something for sale, whether your ask is by actually talking or it’s simply the process of writing text… it’s still a transaction based relationship.  It’s “one and done”

This is how “infinity” is much different.

When you transform to collecting and maintaining a list of people that you bond ou all of a sudden become the leader that shares knowledge and offers products you know your tribe wll want.

This is marketing and it’s marketing that doesn’t feel like marketing.  It feels more like relationship marketing. You develop the relationship with the intention of “infinity” and you keep going.

This is best done by offering content that is appreciated by your tribe and you do this on a regular basis.

Today I have sent out my newsletter to my Pontoon Girls – and I’ve created this blog for my Tribeologists.  I’m offering you content that is useful without it actually feeling like a post… it’s giving you information that is useful, helps you bond with me, and teaches you how to utilize the skill to your advantage with your tribe…

Have you ever wondered why I devote an entire day to “Content and Consistency”?  It’s because you need to utilize both of these skills in tandem.

You must have content

And

You must have consistency.

 

Your content needs to be relevant and important to your readers.  You need consistency to build trust with your tribe.

This ties back to yesterday’s post about your need to be a subject matter expert.  The more stature you have in your industry the better your message will have social proof.  The social proof also builds trust.

These are very important factors.

You might ask, why do this?  I mean, as long as you post something now and again, it’s OK, right?  Better than nothing?

It doesn’t exactly work like that… the way you can tell is if you “used to” have an email list and you tried sending something to it, you understand that you’ve send the equivalent of spam… no one remembers you and they wonder why the heck you’re sending them something.

When you make the decision to build a list you need to be “all in” your efforts will be rewarded, but if you hesitate it sure won’t help.  It won’t help because your tribe will miss you, it won’t help because it hurts your efforts, and it won’t help because your goal is to make money.  The sooner you go “all in” the sooner you’ll make money!

So what is this post about?

It’s a content piece for me, but it’s the type of content piece that communicates a message for you. It helps you understand my two pillars of “content and consistency”.  Instead of lecturing, it’s the opportunity to share, my goal is to show you the value of the two together.

Spend your time like you keep it in a bank account – it’s one of my favorite concepts to share. When you value that time and realize everyone has the same amount… it starts to make you think… there are only 24 hours, so everyone has the exact same amount of time!

That must mean some people are better at managing time.

Well, today is our “Content and Consistency” Day – so let’s explore how we can budget our time a little more effectively regarding content.

When you prepare content for your tribe, start to create content you can use in multiple areas.

For example… let’s say you write a blog that is your “Top 5 Fun Facts” about your business.  This would make a fantastic piece for your customers to get you know your business a little better.

BOOM

You’re done.

Next Post.

WAAAAIT… You just did a Top 5 list.

Well, wouldn’t it be natural to make 5 individual graphics, each with one of the “Top 5” fun facts?  How cool would that be?!

This would give you 5 more posts… you can even link back to the original blog post.

Now the fun comes when you take the 5 social graphics and make them into a slideshow video that also links back to your original posts.

And guess what… your customers won’t remember seeing the post in 90 days, that  means you can re-post it.  And again, link back to it.

So that’s the goal – create your post, but make evergreen links for the post.

Yes you do want to make timely posts about what’s going on in your current day, but evergreen posts can be extremely useful, cost effective, and time efficient.

Do you appreciate when others help you?  Probably.  I’m sure there are people that help, but it actually comes out as “help”.

But what about helping other people… why do you do it?  Does it make you feel good or does it give you status?

Both answers are appropriate.

This is what you need to think about as you provide content for your customers.  First think about the feeling you get from helping someone…Next think about how it feels when you are helped.

This is just a simple trick I use when I don’t “feel” like creating content.

OH YES.

There are times I don’t feel like creating content… and guess what, that means there days I don’t want to write this blog.  Crazy, I know!  But I still do it.

Why?

Because it’s important to you.

You just took time to read what I had to say.  I like knowing that this small tip might help you when you create content… because creating content is important.

But you need to create this content consistently.  If you “forget” a day or couple days… week… soon you stop.

When you stop all the hard work you did up until today QUICKLY disappears.  People find someone else to become their “go to” source.  This is why it’s very important to write, film, or record.

You must create that content – that means get back to your basics.

Remember why you like helping people AND remember how it feels to be helped!

I need a show of hands.  How many of you have been totally sucked into a video on Facebook?

OMG – last night I started watching watching a Facebook video that I’ve seen before!  YES… I was sucked in a second time!  Let’s see if you know the one.  It’s the woman who’s husband approaches her for a divorce, but she says give it 30 days… at the end she dies.

OK total spoiler alert… right?!?

So what is it that makes something soooooo intriguing that I would watch it twice? The Story!

This is what makes the world go around – the better your story, the better your ability to draw someone into your site.

Here’s the secret – I am bad at this skill.  I recognize it and I try harder but I really struggle with storytelling.  Especially when I create a listing.  I mean, why do I need to include anything outside that’s it’s a cotton T shirt, right?

Yeah… start to think of your listings as mini dramas.  Tell a story of how to use the product – NOT a big drawn out Facebook slide show — but set the stage and get your reader to envision how to use your product.  It’s the “wear this T shirt on a walk with your kids” remember I said I’m not great at this skill… but you get the idea.

Introduce and set the stage!  Take a few moments to get past describing the product and start describing HOW the product creates emotions – also known as the story!

And by listings I also mean posts!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 683 – What’s the Real Value of ONE Post?

Here we go!  Post 683.  That’s so many… and you know what??  I started with post number one.

I didn’t plan to write over 600 posts, in fact, when I started I really really REALLY worried I’d run out of things to say.  I also feared that I’d use up all of my “good stuff” at the beginning and the rest of the post would be lame.

Here’s secret, not every post will be amazing.  Not every post will even be interesting.  But there’s something about the consistency that is important.

For me the consistency helps me build a pattern.  I have a specific time of day that I allocate for writing.

Here’s another little secret, when I started writing I did so for me.  It was MY goal to write every day, just to see if I could do it… but somewhere along the way it transformed into writing for you.

I write to share information to help with your journey and your process.  The fun part of a post such as this is to share where I was because it’s quite likely you are there right now.

Someday you will have over 600 posts, if and only if, you have your number one post.  Not your best post, just your first… then you keep going.

But I’ll tell you this… when you do have this type of momentum you will also be building your very own content library that you can re-use!  If I took every post together in one great big book I’d have almost 700 pages!

However as a content marketer, the value is not 700 pages together – but understanding if I chose to re-use each post I’d have nearly 700 days of content!  What’s that… 2 years?  cool.

But again, it all starts with ONE… just one page, one post, and one moment to sit down and write, it’s pretty valuable.
