Thursday: Infinity Customer

Quote: “If you think everyone is your customer, then no one is your customer.”

“I have 12,000,000 in my search, is that too many?” asked this woman in our business group.

Yep.  That’s waaaaaay to large.

The reason it’s too large is that everyone cannot possibly be your customer!  If you happen to be creating your searches online you’ve got to narrow the group.

It’s the same in person, except it’s a different reason.

Online:  Online you narrow because it takes several “touches” to get someone to react.  A “touch” is exposure to your message.  Likely it will take 11 views (touches) of your ad to get a reaction – if your group is 12,000,000 it’s very hard to have 11 views to one person!

In-person: However, the in person the reason “everyone” cannot be your customer is because you can’t satisfy everyone.  It’s impossible.

The reason it’s impossible is because of personalities.

Dig deep… if you go to buy a car and absolutely cringe when you think of having to negotiate a price, you would never ever want to have a customer that constantly wants to low-ball you!

When you take the time to identify your ideal customer you will attract customers that mesh well with your personality.

This is the group that will become your infinity customers and ultimately become your tribe.

Now here’s the fun “full circle” of the post… when you develop your ideal customer via the age range, gender, hobbies, interests, etc, you will help yourself in the “online” 12,000,000 dilemma my friend found herself in.  The avatar becomes the way to significantly reduce your search group to a manageable group to achieve your number of “touches”.

How cool is that?

Today think about fear.  Think about all of the times you’ve been afraid to do… anything!  Life is full of fear, or challenges, let’s look at the classic example of riding a bike.

You get on the bike, and you fall, but finally you get it.

And you’re not afraid.

(until your bell bottoms gets stuck in the front wheel and you fly over the handlebars – true story)

But most people conquer their fear and move on. When they look back there is no longer fear but a journey they completed.

What is it TODAY that is making you fearful?  In a day, week, month, year – will you look back at this challenge and think, “no big deal?”

Then get on with it.  Conquer your fear!

Take action today.

How’s your social campaign doing?  Do you have it scheduled… I mean it’s like an advertising campaign, right…

Wrong.

The fun part about building a tribe is to nurture it.  This is so much different from an advertising campaign.

Advertising campaigns you place ads and look for results.  The best result being an increase in sales.

With a tribe building process you want results.  And you’ll see financial results.  But it’s going to look different from advertising.  You’ll be focused on sending out information that your customers want, and sometimes need without even knowing it.

You are building loyalty that an advertising campaign will never achieve.

The opportunity to turn a customer from “one and done” into an Infinity Customer is a privilege.  You GET the opportunity to talk to them over and over — on a regular basis.

This is when we need to be consistent.

We need to make the commitment to our customer to provide regular content that they want!  This is how we get them to know, like, and trust us!

It’s so much different from advertising…

Just like the quote says, your tribe building efforts are a commitment not a campaign.

The fun of today’s post is thinking about the Big Bad Wolf.  If we look at the quote there’s the motivational message of, don’t let fear make your mind run wild.

It’s a great message.

You need to be cautious that you don’t let fear get the best of you and prevent you from doing amazing things!  The wolf may be bad… but he’s not unstoppable.

But now let’s twist this quote and focus on the big bad wolf.

What do we know about the Big Bad Wolf?  Well, he lives to harass pigs and has impressive lung power.

He’s got a strong brand.

You’ve never met the Big Bad Wolf and yet you’re afraid of him.  But while you’re afraid of him, please recognize, he’s a Subject Matter Expert.  He goes through life displaying his talent in house demolition… His reputation precedes him and causes you to buy strong construction materials, like brick, if you happen to be building a home in the area.

Ironic, eh? You never think of the Big Bad Wolf as an expert… but he’s got skills AND he markets them pretty darn well.

His skills in home demolition with his brand of “big bad wolf” make you take notice and as today’s quote shows… we have a habit of fearing him much larger than needed, and he’s only a story!

So how do you get you brand to be as strong (but nicer) than the Big Bad Wolf — well, like the wolf, you advertise by featuring your strength.  Get out there and build a reputation through success.

Granted the wolf did it with “word of mouth” and the fear of having your house blown down and getting eaten… I don’t think that’s a great way to build your credibility.  I think a much better way is with reviews!

And… all you have to do is ask your customers.

When a third party endorses you that has actually used your product or service… wow.  That’s a fantastic credibility builder.

This totally made my day.  I’m totally serious, I had a happy grin because I got this for free!

If you wear contacts you know what this is… travel size eye solution!  BUT there’s also a new contact case inside.

Anytime you get a new contact case it’s amazing!  I equate it to getting a new toothbrush at your visit to the dentist office…

But NO tooth drilling here.

I happened to stop at my local convenience store to get gasoline and soda.  That’s when I saw it… an entire table with a bunch of stuff on it.  Just random health and beauty aids laying on a table with a sign in magic marker that said, one free with purchase.

This made me buy MORE stuff like chips…

Ya know, I’m still a little exited about this!

I’m sure they were re-merchandising and not wanting to throw stuff out – but it was awesome!  Like a little surprise party… you should try this.  If you have stuff to get rid of just throw it on table with a note that says “One free with purchase”

That’s it.

I came across this great idea in my feed… and as the quote states, “you’re only one decision away from a totally different life” – so what is this one decision?

Think Differently.

You have a product – but how can you repackage or rebrand and reach an entirely different market?

Look at this example…

The company uses it’s bracelet customizer to make individual bracelets in colors and charms you desire… but this is one step further.

They suggest that the customizer be used to create a bracelet for social causes.  The example is for a fundraiser for a kidney transplant.

It’s an easy way for a product to be used as a fundraiser – but think about the upsell for a minute.  Instead of selling one bracelet – you sell 50.

Hummmmmmmm

That’s how to think differently for a big money small change idea!
