I love when I check my feeds in Facebook or Instagram and find amazing posts to share with you!

Since we’re always looking for new ways to increase our money this might be a great idea for you.  Maybe not exactly like it, but if you grasp the spirit you’ll be rocking it!

This post is from a baton twirling group.  Remember, I competed fro 17 years so it’s fun to still follow teams and see how the sport evolves… one evolution is the introduction of social media on the business side.

There’s something in baton twirling called a 1-turn.  It’s when you toss the baton in the air and while it’s out of your hand, you turn around once and catch the baton.  You can do a 2-turn… which is two spins.  3-turn… 4-turn… etc.  YES, the very good competitors get up to 9ish, it’s pretty incredible.

BUT you have to start somewhere and that somewhere is the 1-turn. It’s a milestone. Honestly, it’s the first “real” trick that separates the new students from those on their way to competition levels.

SO, back to the post.  This girl was at practice and caught her 1-turn!  Look at how they celebrated.  The studio has a chalkboard and wrote the milestone on it for the girl to stand in front of the studio logo on the wall!

The caption said “she joined the 1-turn club”

This is a pretty exciting way to showcase your product (lessons) as a brand.  LOOK AT THIS… it’s tribe building.  You celebrate your student’s success and share with your online family so they too can celebrate!  It motivates the girl who achieved the milestone, shows your teaching success, and can create a shareable moment.

And it’s an Infinity promotion. You erase the chalk board and wait for the next milestone… the wall is a great decor item that serves double duty.

This is a “very big money small change” item.

How can you do this?   Use creativity –  like our quote says… make it special.

For me… We have a marina… We could do this by celebrating “my first boat ride” or “my first visit to Lake Minnetonka” create a certificate, award to the customer, and take a photo in front of our sign and post online!

Done consistently, it’s a fantastic content creator!

So let’s see… of our 5 C’s we have…

  1. Character (Subject Matter Expert) – YEP, success at teaching.
  2. Content – YEP – it’s a content generator
  3. Consistency – YEP – it’s going to happen again…
  4. Customer – YEP – the student is celebrated
  5. Cash – it likely will build excitement for others to want to join.

This is a home run for Tribeology!

We’ve made it to Thursday – the day we talk about our Infinity Customers!  The thing I wanted to chat about is there are two sides to our Infinity Customers… side one is the buying side and side two is the nurturing side.

These are very different sides.

Let’s look at the benefits of the two sides.

If we operated under the “One and Done” style of business that we have traditionally grown up with we would create an ad.  It’s focus would be on that product or service we sell.  People would buy and we would look for more customers.

Clearly, we still need to do advertising, but… there is a new way.

The new way is when we create our Infinity Marketing Machine and get ready for new customers to join us on a journey.  We find them (or they find us) and they enter our machine.  This machine is geared to make them want to stay.  Sure they found us with an intent to buy something… but after they buy, they don’t leave.

They stay!

This is totally different.

Sure, we used to keep a “mailing list” and when we wanted to sell something we would create a letter or postcard and send to the customers… but now we entertain them.

At the heart of it, we are creating a tribe.  The tribe stays.

I look at how we did business 20 years ago, we kept (and still keep) a mailing list.  Our customers rent boats, and at the beginning of the next season we would send a invite to come out and enjoy the lake… by renting a boat.  This model will still work.

BUT now…

All winter long, once a week, our customers receive an email from us.  Each week we talk about what is going on around the marina and in the area.  We share our vibe.  By the time the spring comes, they’ve already seen us working on the motors, cleaning the interiors, launching in the lake, watching the ice melt, and hiring new crew.  We really have no reason to send a postcard to welcome to the lake, they’ve lived the experience, in real time, as it has happened.

This is the nurturing side.

As for the buying side… well, that happens when they rent a boat.  We do still have traditional advertising which generates business, BUT… again, we switched our focus to capture leads instead of the “one and done” cash register ring.

It’s VERY scary to make the jump.  We are getting ever so close to our 60th year of business, and to leave everything you’ve known about “one and done” in exchange for “infinity” is scary.

Here’s the funny thing, I didn’t send out that “welcome” letter in the summer of 2018.  It didn’t even occur to me, I noticed I didn’t send it about a week ago… and you know what, we INCREASED sales in our rentals last summer.

Infinity works.  It IS well worth it, IF you are willing to commit to the 5 C’s… Character, Content, Consistency, Customers, Cash.   When you fully Commit, it works.

hahaha – That’s the hidden C… Commit.

Therefore, if you commit to the continuous nurturing of your tribe building the buying side will take care of itself!

This is definitely the type type of quote you want to print up and hang on the wall.  It’s so AMAZING.  You totally want to stand at the top of a hill, arms outstretched, sun gracing your face and you exhale.

That’s what you feel when you read this quote.

There are dreams of selling everything, moving to an island and soaking in the reggae band at the bar while drinking a ginormous drink with a huge slice of pineapple on the rim.

You want to run free in the meadow being chased by a pack of golden retriever puppies.

Don’t all of these things sound amazing!  Especially when you’re staring at your unread emails? haha

Let’s look at the second half of the quote — Learn.  Learn more. Then learn some more!

I was listening to a book as I was driving today.  I was running errands, and I HATE to run errands. It’s winter, I’m fortunate to have a warm coat, but I hate not being able to move!  UGH.  But there I was… driving to pick up stuff at 5 different places. AND I was listening to an audio book.

I was listening to a marketing book.  It’s about creating remarkable moments and how to craft them… there will probably be a post about it in the future (wink) – but today I was learning.  One example is about New Zealand and their innovation of a Sky Couch.

YIKES!

They added a foot rest to the 3 across seats.  It flips up and makes a futon.  Imagine that!  On a trip across the ocean you can lie down and NOT be in first class.  (Granted, I’d like to be in First Class)

So what does this have to do with the quote for today?  OMG.  I was doing life (mundane), learning (audio book), and living (dreaming) — all at the same time.

You can multitask anything! 🙂

Here we are again! Tuesday and we’re talking about the C’s “C”ontent and “C”onsistency.

So what on earth is content?  Well, keeping the quote in mind, “not everything has a name. Somethings lead us into a realm beyond words.” is the PERFECT quote to define content.

When I say you need to create content on a consistent basis, I’m in general referring to text.  But what else is content… Ready?

Writtten
Video
Audio
Photos
Infographics

Now… I’m certain there are more!  But with written, you have tweets, posts, blogs, and download content.  This continues with Video as recorded, live, slideshows, PowerPoints, Boomerangs, interviews, tutorials. Audio, speaking, stories, soap operas… this goes on and on .

When you say you’ve got nothing to write, you may be right!  Haha get it… right/write… (roll eyes).   But you could have a photo, or spoken something.  Mix it up!

You can repost, too!  It’s always best to create original content, but YES you can repost something that your audience would find interesting.  For example, at our marina, I bet our tribe would LOVE a screenshot of the sunny weather forecast… unless, of course, they’re sitting in a meeting!  However, it’s relevant content we didn’t create.

But here’s the interesting thing about content that really relates to the second half of the quote… we’re going into the “realm beyond words”…

Ready?

I was chatting with my 14 year old niece the other day.  She’s working on a high school business competition and had a question about the internet marketing.  She has her target for the hypothetical product (which by the way is a million dollar idea).  She knows the target is middle school students.

She automatically thought… Snap Chat and Instagram.  Sure, that’s a great way to garner attention… but it’s not a great content curation plan.

Let’s jump down the rabbit’s hole.  YES, these two platforms are excellent for this age, but they are complete and total “one and done” thinking and we want infinity.

I  mentioned to her that she needs a YouTube Channel. Then I taught her the basic guideline that you might find helpful… and that’s to create your videos, then use Snap Chat and Instagram to lead to YouTube.  This brought us into a chat about how YouTube is the number two search engine and when you put it there it’s always there!  It’s searchable and will drive traffic.

Remember in your situation Instagram/Snapchat might NOT be the best feeders… you have to determine that by demographics.

OK

Let’s go a little further down the hole… and soon it will make sense.

Each platform is starting to mature into it’s ideal use.  They are not all equal.  Let’s do this one example.  We make a video.  But remember earlier I said we have live, recorded, interviews, soap operas, etc… At the same time there is a demographic component to your platform of choice there is also an ideal platform for the format of your video.

Here goes:

Instagram: reality shows
Facebook: Talk show
YourTube: Sitcom / teaching
Podcast: Radio

In my nieces situation, because YouTube is long term and easily searchable, and the programming is something you watch again and again, just like you would watch a favorite sitcom over and over. Regardless of how old it is. It’s a great platform to host her videos.

You see… rarely will you look up an old episode of Oprah thus, it’s really best “in the moment” and that’s Facebook’s specialty, think about it, how far down on your feed do you look?  A day, three days, a month… nope, not a month, that’s old!

And Instagram… that’s your reality show, just look at the crazy things for a minute people do… yikes!

So as I was helping my niece, I hope I helped you.  Pick your medium (written/video/audio) and then merge with the best social platform… is it a “one and done” piece of content or is it an “infinity” content… that will help you decide where to highlight it for the BEST interaction.

The fourth “C” of the Infinity Marketing Machine is Customer, more specifically Infinity Customer. This is a person that joins your tribe and stays.  They are very loyal and purchase items “over and over and over”.  We like Infinity Customers.

Now… the thing to keep in mind is this… Your Infinity Customer can leave at any time, so don’t neglect your relationship.

It’s important that the information you provide is useful… but the other thing that is important is that you provide items they want to buy!

I was looking on Pinterest a couple days ago and came across this!

Can you see why this is important for us to study?

This is an Infinity Product!  Remember, the infinity product is one that can be replicated over and over.  But I really like this because it’s niche based.  If you had a business of nerds as your base.  This is your product!

T Shirts for science loving introverts that apparently don’t like pants.  haha

But look at the significance.  It’s a gray shirt with different words under a common theme that is niche based.

YES.

Learn from this product – because as you want to make money and seek that $1/per month per person on your email list, the infinity product is critical to your success.

Next Step… sit down and brainstorm your niche and the type of product that is desired from your group, then provide it!  If needed, throw them a nerd party!

I have nothing to write about… I don’t want to write anything… UGH, no one cares if I write something… I’ve got other things to do.

Have you ever used one of these excuses?  Be truthful!  You have.  I know I have.

I’ve felt like this as recent as last Saturday!  I just felt like I had NOTHING to say.

But guess what?  When you decide that your tribe is important, you don’t get the luxury of breaking consistency.  Now, that doesn’t mean that you will have a “jump out of bed, throw open the curtains, and yell ‘Hello Morning, here’s a big hug”

Heck no.  When you make the commitment to consistency with your content, you must be consistent but there will be moments when you want to pull the covers back over your head and hide from the sun.

However, just because you want to… doesn’t mean you can.  You made the commitment to consistency so here are two tips to make life a little easier on those “I don’t want to write days.”

  1.  Predetermine your “schedule” for example, I have one “topic” for each day of the week, and on that day you will find a post that relates to the topic.  If you are writing more than once a week, have a theme for the day.
  2. Create a fall back list.  Something you can dig out of the vault and find inspiration.  This can be your company history, highlight your services, answer the top 5 questions clients ask, talk about an award you won.  Make a list of 10 items.  You will appreciate having this list.

So what did I do on Saturday to get a post done?  Well, I went to my “go to” photos of “try this” things I’ve found at businesses, and the candy one inspired me.

The “go to” list works, create one!
