Can you charge extra for air?

Yesterday I received a box from Amazon.  Inside was the ink cartridge I ordered… and air pillows.

OK, I have no idea what they’re called.  Not bubble wrap… but those large pillows of air trapped in plastic that are no fun to pop.

Well, I was in the middle of stabbing them and realized my dad needed packing material for a box he was shipping… oops.

Well… I said, I can get some duct tape and blow them up.  Air is free!  He was not happy with me.  (one of the joys of working with family).  But…. it got me to thinking of a visit to a grocery store in Florida.

There was a great display area right by the entrance.  It was full of rafts and inner tubes… inflated!

What’s better than buying a tube?  Buying an inflated tube!  If you are fortunate enough to have a few moments to jump in the pool, do you want to spend any time inflating the raft?

Heck no!

But… it’s beyond exciting to grab your raft, cram it in your car, go home and float!

You know what I thought was exciting…???  They charged $2.00 more for the inflated version.  So amazingly cool.

How can you use this idea, especially if you don’t sell inner tubes?  Think about the stuff you sell.  What do you sell that requires assembly… assemble it!

PS:  Don’t forget to charge for the air… or assembly!

The goal of turning our social media efforts into an Infinity Marketing Machine is accomplished by getting our audience to know, like, and trust us.

The question becomes, “How do we do this?”

When you convert your effort to creating an Infinity Marketing Machine All communication with your customers centers around this main goal.  You want all communications to build trust and get people to know us that’s how they will like us!

I’ve often said we do this through creating consistent content that is useful to our followers.  BUT, it’s a little more than just content.  It’s about the credibility of the person  creating the content!

Sure you can create a site where you constantly repost items from experts… but all that makes you is a good reposter-er… you want to be more than that!  You want to be one of the experts.

When you position yourself as an expert you will enhance your following.  This may seem daunting… but you can do this with something as simple as a Linked-In or Facebook Profile.

Use these two “ready to go” traffic generators.  Just build and enhance your profiles.  Include your talents/skills and honors/awards.  Also post your own creative content.

That’s a little tricky for some people.  I think it’s because we use the word “expert” and follow it with “create content” – that means you are blogging or vlogging information for potential customers to see!  That gets scary… until you think of this trick.

The second half… “When you learn, teach.”

If you can hold a conversation about your product, service, or industry then you can write or create a video about it.  Take what you have LEARNED and spin it into a TEACHING moment.

Just like this blog post… all I’m doing is sharing information I’ve learned.  I’m teaching you what I know!  I love learning more and more about being an Infinitypreneur but… it’s even better to teach you!

Instead of thinking of “positioning yourself as an expert” think of yourself as “Teaching what you know”!

The goal with the Infinity Marketing Machine is to create your own tribe.  This is the group of customers that know, like, and trust you!  When you’ve gained “the big three” you are able to suggest different products… and make more money.

The road to “the big three” takes time and consistent effort… and that’s when small business owners hit a wall.

I remember reading a social media “how to” book that said, “prepare to spend 15 hours a week on blah blah blah”.  I burst out laughing… who has time!  This quickly became a “how not to” book for social media marketing!

That’s when I decided there’s got to be a better way — thus, I developed the Infinity Marketing Machine.

But recently it’s felt like something has been missing.  Yes, you build this machine and you create customers that become loyal tribe members… however, I’m convinced we need a mind shift.  We need to “Quit Thinking Small”.

I’ve always had this feeling deep in my gut that “small business” has a negative vibe.  Sure the physical size of businesses are not “large” and most focus around one or two  entrepreneurs, physically it’s small.  BUT, just for fun,  I looked up synonyms for “small” and the list included, puny, pitiful, petty, little, diminutive, meager, slight… it kept going.  Do you have a puny business?  How about a diminutive business?  Worst yet… is it a “cute” business… I hate that one!

Now… here are a few of the antonyms of small:  great, important, substantial, unrestricted… doesn’t a “great business”, or “important business” sound better?

Here’s where I’m going…

Quit Thinking Small and Start Doing Infinity

OLD MINDSET:  Products + Customers = Small Businesses

NEW MINDSET: Infinity Products + Infinity Customers = Infinity Businesses

When you produce a product that is ongoing without an upper limit and when you convert your customers from “one and done” to Infinity through my process of tribeology.  You have transitioned from entrepreneur to Infinitypreneur!

Yesterday I chatted a little bit about serving your followers. Today we’re going to dig a little deeper.

Providing content can seem like a daunting activity.  At times you may say something like “I have to write my blog” and then you correct yourself, “I get to write my blog”.  That way you take the drudgery out of it.  (Words mean things… haha)

BUT…

Reread today’s inspiration.

Content now fulfills a very important role.  Content becomes your proof.

This can be a review, testimonial, web page, photo, third party article… it can be anything.  But most of all, it exists.

You may be struggling because you “have” to write something… but when you switch your thinking to, I “GET” to write something and you view this “something” as your social proof, you have purpose!  Content is your ability to communicate with your customers in a way that was once only dreamed of…

YES! Dreamed of!

Right now… I mean right now, you can open up Facebook and communicate LIVE with the world.  This was a privilege once reserved just for major TV networks that could access satellites!  But right now, you can do this… FOR FREE.

And you’re not????  Isn’t that odd.

Hint:  Add LIVE to your list of really cool content creator tools!  It’s a great way to provide useful content for your tribe.

I love motivational quotes.  I think when you find a good one it can turn your day around.

Actually, it can turn around your entire path!

Today’s is a great quote… let’s read again, “There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.”

On the surface you learn to be hard working and not take short cuts.

Well don’t take a short cut to “any place worth going”.  Hummmm.  Let me tell you something… there’s a great restaurant in Australia on the “other side” of the bridge.  It’s an amazing little breakfast spot…right next to the Sydney Harbor Bridge!

NOW… there’s also a great little restaurant in Wooloomooloo that’s on the “other… other side” of the bridge.  So if both are worth going to, and there’s a bridge, is the quote saying, you should go to both, but don’t take the short cut of the bridge.  You should swim?  I mean that’s the true “non short cut” way to get to both restaurants, after all, taking a boat or ferry is a short cut, right?!?!

SO, what on earth does this have to do with content and consistency?

Sometimes amazing content is stuff written by someone else!  You can share a link to an article written by someone else.  It’s a short cut, but it still puts your tribe first IF the content is amazing and something they find useful.

Same holds true for a video!

Same for a photo or an infographic!

Don’t get stuck in the mindset that the only way to create amazing content is by putting your nose to the grind and authoring every piece you share.  It’s OK to share things other people have created, especially “things” your tribe would find awesome.

Last week I was “wasting” time on Facebook and there was a great video of the three members of team USA for baton twirling doing a trick called an “elbow pop” – basically you pop the baton off your elbow, over and over and over!  They are not easy, they hurt, you bruise yourself, but they look super duper easy!  BUT THEY’RE NOT!

Alright, the 3 ladies posted a video goofing off with the “elbow pop” in slow motion… I re-posted on my Facebook Baton Page… and it was shared by my followers 25 times!  It received over 19,000 views.

I did not create the video – I simply shared it.   In essence, this was my “short cut” to content creation, my bridge!  The word “creation” has a very big spectrum in regards to online content.

REMEMBER, content creation is information your tribe will appreciate, engage with, and thrive from receiving.

YES, you still need a schedule to post consistently – but relax and don’t look at it as cheating if you “share” something someone else created.

A word of caution… do not use this method as a substitution for your own creation, but, don’t be afraid of a “short cut” now and again!

Have you ever wondered why the football captain and the cheerleader date?  Look at it either way… he has become the person that is attractive to her… OR she has become the person that is attractive to him.

Either way… one has the personal characteristics that are attractive to the other!

This is also why the nerd doesn’t date the homecoming queen.  Albeit smart, the nerd does not have the characteristics the beauty queen desires…

What does this have to do with being an Infinity Customer?

You (your business) needs to develop the characteristics that attract your tribe (customers).

It really is that simple!

You are going to become the attractive object of desire for your audience!  You’ll do this by creating content that is so absolutely amazing that your tribe says “heck yes! I’ll date you!”

And then you consistently provide this amazing fantastic and stupendous content on such a regular basis that your tribe says, “The more I learn about you the cooler you are!”

This builds your trust to a point where your tribe says, “I just can’t live without you”

And finally… when you finally get down on one knee and propose your special offer for them to buy…  they say, “YES!  Of course  YES!”

Except that… just because they married you… you don’t get to ignore them by reducing your amazing content.  You want them around for INFINITY!

This is the real key to the Infinity Marketing Machine.  You are committed to keeping the fire going after you exchange rings!  When your tribe sticks with you through bad (content) days… you’ve got a special relationship… you have an Infinity Customer.
