TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 903 – Do You Want to Learn a New Skill for Marketing?

Thursday: Infinity Customer

Quote:  Better to be a nerd than one of the herd!

Nerd Alert!  It’s time to jump in and lead your tribe.

What’s so nerdy about that?

Well… Leading a tribe means you have a tribe that follows you, not just customer but a tribe.

It’s easy to find customers.  Seriously, when you place an ad you are actually buying them.  You’re paying to find them… think about it.

That means, if you are building a tribe you are not buying them. You are earning their trust with consistent content.  If you do not provide content, they’ll leave.

You cannot force them to stay!  If someone wants out of your tribe, they’ll leave.

This is what being a nerd is all about.  You are learning an entirely new skill for marketing.  Attracting customers that transform into a tribe that you regularly communicate with is new.

It’s an easy concept, but it’s far from easy to keep up the consistency – however, if you want to go from “one and done” to “Infinity” which means you quit buying your customers with advertising and start providing products the tribe wants to buy… well, it’s time to get your nerd on!

It’s time to stop doing what everyone else does and simply buy ads, and time to learn just how valuable it is to transform customer into a tribe!

That’s right…

Jump in there and lead your tribe.  Today – provide one great post with information they crave.  Think about what your core value is… the reason you are creating a tribe and write.  Now, go for it.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 901 – Infinity Sellers Put a New Spin on Useful Information

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Tuesday: Content and Consistency

Quote: “Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, add what is uniquely your own.” Bruce Lee

It’s very hard to create something new.  I mean entirely new.

We think an iPhone is super cool because it came into our lives in what… like 2007?  But what is an iPhone… it’s a cell phone, camera, alarm clock, stop watch, note pad, video camera, level, flash light, music machine… it goes on and on… but nothing is new, it got rid of old technology and put it’s own spin on useful things!

Use this example in terms of the content you provide.

Nothing is new.

Even in my tribe building ideas… an email list is just a database.  Email is a newsletter.  and sending is just mail… this is nothing new!   It’s just gets rid of the unwanted things and puts a new spin on useful things.

When you create content you can find sourcing all over the internet.  Again, nothing is new but the standout articles put a new spin on useful information.

So using this skill, here’s what I did.  I wrote a free guide. Now I’m a little strange, I like writing research reports. It’s an odd “like” but I do enjoy it.  So I wrote a new workbook about marketing for your small store.

Again, nothing new.

But I was writing it as I had my TV on in the background.  And my channel switched to the Hallmark Channel.

I know, it seems strange that it changees on it’s own, but it does.

So there I am watching a Hallmark Movie, and you know you can’t change the channel because regardless of how cheesy the story line, they mesmerize you!

But I noticed something… they have a “romantic” view of marketing…  I’d say delusional view of marketing.  Who has the opportunity to spend thousands of dollars to host a ball to feature your new chocolate chip cookies?  OK I’m all about the chocolate chip cookies, but not for thousands in promotions.

I say set up an email list and sell the cookies to the tribe.  OR keep the cookies and eat them and sell something else.  (can you tell I’m hungry?)

OK but here’s the point.  It annoyed me this marketing that “always works” – UGHHHHH you know how much skill goes into a good campaign, heck yes you do…. you have created your own campaigns the do not involve a ball!

So there it was… my spin for my marketing workbook…   Infinity Sellers – Where Your Small Store Marketing and a Hallmark Movie Collide.

IMG_8124

Grab your own copy for free… it’s about 30 pages.  (I told you I like research reports) – it’s an instant download… You can find the information all over the internet, but I put it together into one book with a cute little spin, because I like Hallmark Movies.  OK I just admitted it.

Whew.

So now – create your very own content based off of useful information, just put a clever spin on it!   OH and go grab my free guide at InfinitySellers.com

Thursday: Infinity Customer

Quote “Customers may forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel”

Have you ever had an amazing customer experience?  Then the follow up question is what made it so amazing…

I’m guessing there may have been words spoken, but it was the feeling you received that made it super special.

It starts with a kind word… now I don’t mean “wow that dress looks amazing…” the wow experience is about genuine care.   I’m kind of a creature of habit.  I honestly could eat the same thing for lunch every day.

My favorite lunch used to be a plain grilled chicken sandwich.  Now it’s hot ham and cheese… but back in the day chicken was #1.

This was a long time ago, but my first job out of college was actually working for the college.  I was an admissions counselor and we were a crazy group.  We traveled from high school to high school to encourage application to our college.  Really… we were sales people.

Anyway, back on topic.

When on campus, it was hard to plan for lunch.  We were super busy in the fall with prospective students just dropping by so grabbing lunch was a “OMG… NOW” type of event.

One day, I went across the road to the normal restaurant and as usual there was a huge line of about 20 people.  The food was cooked fresh and took at least 10 minutes.

But I was really hungry and it was insane standing in line.  (this was before smart phones.  I had a cell phone but we’re talking a peacock blue nokia – it was high tech for it’s day)

So there was nothing to do but wait and wait and wait… well the line took at good 12 minutes… and I almost left.

BUT the people that operated the restaurant were good people.  A family that worked freekin hard.  It was nice to chat.

Anyway, I got to the front… and the “dad” said – “come here” – by passed the entire group… he made my meal as soon as I got in line, all I had to do was check out.

BOOM!!!

That’s how you make a customer feel special.

This is how you build loyalty.

This is how you build your tribe.  Show genuine care.

25+ years later and thinking of this memory it still makes me feel amazing, not only did he know what I would order, but he made it as a surprise.

Get out there an surprise your customers today…. if not all of them, just one!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 894 – The Effortless Way To Increase Loyalty With Your Tribe

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Monday: Subject Matter Expert

Quote: “Leader loyalty strengthens when the relationship is based on TRUST!”

Remember back to your dating days… that time when you “put yourself out there” to meet someone to spend the rest of your life with…  maybe it worked, maybe it didn’t.

But why didn’t the date or worse yet… why didn’t the relationship work?

Most excuses come down to trust.  Think about it, if some cheated, spent money on the credit cards without you knowing… both are trust issues.

The funny thing is, as we are developing or Infinity Marketing Machine we have 5 C’s to work with – Credibility, Content, Consistency, Customers, Cash… well, the very first C and every Monday we talk about Credibility.

Credibility is your trustworthiness.  Even when we focus on your status as a Subject Matter Expert – at the base we are still focused on trust.

Your trust with your tribe.

If you have a good leader… you will follow.  If you have a bad leader… you question EVERYTHING.

When you have trust, you have loyalty.

Building trust is the effortless way to loyalty.  But that does not mean building trust is effortless.  It’s actually far from it.

To build trust you must have credibility and often one great way to do this is to receive honors and awards from third party sources.

An excellent opportunity is with your local Chamber of Commerce or your local newspaper that runs a “best of” series each year.  Get customers to vote for you or your business.

Another opportunity is with testimonials.  Now, a testimonial is a little different from a review.  They are typically more positive because you’ve asked a customer for their words.  A review… yikes… that is uncontrollable.  Hopefully good, but sometimes not.  🙂

As you get going with your Monday, think about building trust.

Look at your local paper and Chamber of Commerce and find out what awards you might apply for, and then also ask for testimonials from key customers to use in brochures or on your website.

Both ideas are fantastic avenues to great social proof!

Both are excellent resources for building trust.

And trust is the number one way to loyalty… and loyalty transforms customers to a tribe.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 894 – How Do You Stop Selling and Start Serving Your Customers?

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit. Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy! It really is that simple.

Saturday: Try This

Your best customers are the customers you already have.

Believe this.

This is why impulse items were created… OK I have no idea if this is why they were created. But you know that feeling when you’re at the check out and you just HAVE TO HAVE the thing at the counter?

OR maybe it’s the ability of the National Enquirer to write compelling headlines that end up in your cart (fine, Magnolia Magazine).

What ever it is that makes you just HAVE TO HAVE it that’s what I’m talking about.

Look at this…

It’s genius.

I went to doggy daycare and right on the counter are “brush up” trainings!

It’s perfect (when you think about it) – get your clients to pay for the thing that will benefit you the most… in the business view, having a better trained dog will help make their job easier, and getting the customer to pay for it makes them money.

However, it is presented in a way that the dog owner wants it!

Dog training is super important… so this is an amazing offer.  It’s a captive audience, an impulse item, and an emotional win!  Your dog goes to school without having to make another trip or appointment.  They are not selling, they are serving their customer!

How can you serve your customers in a similar manner?  Think about this and find the way to make their life easier and promote your business.

Maybe you can put an “assembly required” thing together, offer pre-packaged treats for school, to-go dinners, pay in advance and pick up the “thing” at the check out counter.

When you switch from selling to serving it opens an entirely new way to do business!

Try this!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 892 – This Idea Is Awesome!

Tribeology: Learn It. Do It. Profit.  Decide who you want to work with, attract them, and sell them things they want to buy!  It really is that simple.

Thursday: Infinity Customer

Quote: Ideas are easy. Implementation is hard.

Could you imagine if you made money from ideas.  And not ideas that you put to paper, protect, and sell… but just ideas.

OH I’d have so much money.

But ideas don’t make money… unless you do something with them.  That’s when the hard part comes into play.

You must be willing to implement an idea.  The bad part about that is you have no idea what are good ideas and what are bad ideas… OK you kinda know what is a bad idea.  My idea to dispense Diet Pepsi out of the water spout on my refrigerator – probably bad.

But good ideas, dang those are hard!

This is why the Infinity Marketing Machine is not done by everyone.

The idea is easy:  Attract customers, nurture them with interesting content, then offer products they desire, and make sales!

EASY.

Oh but the implementation.

It’s hard.

You need to develop a content calendar OR at the minimum decide to be consistent with a regular day to send out information.

But what do you send?  It can start to feel tedious, mundane, or worse!  This is when the implementation must kick in.

Again, everyone here understands the “unfun” side of feeding the content monster.  It can be all consuming — however, if you plan ahead and come up with a content calendar or at least an agenda and topics that are interesting to you – you will be able to provide meaningful content to your tribe.

So today — decide that you will implement, because this idea is awesome!
