If you were at a party and someone came up to you, stepped into your space bubble, and started drilling you with questions, what would you think?

Oh My Gosh… creep alert!

How about if you visit a website, then the next thing you know every time you open Facebook there is an ad from that site… or you open a news site and the same thing happens, you’re being followed all around the web with this site!

Creepy.

And finally… what happens if you love a store, you sing up for their email, and then it’s like you’re FLOODED with email after email after email… it just doesn’t stop – or it does when you unsubscribe.  haha

What’s my point?

It’s this… you can’t rush your relationship… whether it’s in human life or infinity customer world.  Seriously… if you start to send emails quick and overwhelming – you will scare someone away much in the same way when you’re cornered at a party by a creeper!

Build the relationship by being the leader a tribe is looking for, but don’t be creepy!  You want to provide useful information…

But… on that note… you also want them to be an Infinity CUSTOMER not an Infinity Friend… avoid the friend’s zone!  While you provide information you also want to sell.  Establish that while you’re developing the tribe – the underlying purpose is because you’re in business.

This is important… it’s easy to attract a tribe but you want to attract a tribe that you can offer products they desire and ultimately purchase.  If you get stuck in the friends zone this won’t happen… if you get stuck in the creeper zone this won’t happen.

You are building Infinity Customers… create the tribe, provide information, but always remember to offer items for sale.

Friday night I received a, “… mentioned you” comment from Facebook.

It was from someone I don’t really talk to.  I also didn’t post anything earlier in the day… so it was odd.

I opened the comment and found a woman looking to purchase pageant banners because her normal vendor came up with a problem… she is completely stressed because the pageant is in a week.

Alright, this might seem strange so here’s the backstory.

I competed in baton twirling for 17 years.  Part of every twirling contest is a pageant category or awards that involve pageant sashes.  There are a couple social media sites I run for baton twirlers, and I also create rhinestone T shirts… well, I thought… maybe making pageant sashes would be a great way to provide a service to the baton twirling community.

Last year, I tried.  I made some for one contest… then crickets.

Until Friday.

The gal I made the sashes recommended me in the answer to the woman seeking help with her Facebook need.  Since I was tagged, I hopped on and put the link (MyAwesomeTitle.com) to the sashes I create… then about 30 minutes later, my phone did “cha ching”

We operate in a very interesting commerce era… right now.

Credibility and personal reference is more important than ever.

Lots of people listed who they used in the reply for help on Facebook…. but she chose me.

It’s just something to think about as you work to develop your online credibility and social network.  It really gives purpose to all of that work you are putting into your Infinity Marketing Machine!

You are creating content but this is all about creating a connection.  And it was the mutual connection that got me the order.

This whole week I’ve been so confused as to what day it is!  OMG…

When a holiday hits mid week it just gets confusing.  Every day feels like Sunday… but Sunday feels like Sunday – so so confusing.

It kind of reminds me of when you go to the store to pick something up and you fall into a time warp.

You think your order should be done… yet there are other people waiting – but people that come into the store after you are served first… then you get mad.

Finally you ask the clerk… “when is my stuff going to be ready?”

WELL…

Why not help your customers.

Look at this!

It’s the pizza board.

You can walk into the Dominos – find your name… and know when your pizza will be ready.

This is genius.

As an employer, you clear up all of the “when is it my turn?” questions – that frees up you crew from answering that question to actually getting the job done!

Anytime you have information that someone else wants… whether it’s shipping information, when is the next bus coming, when is my food arriving, when does the tour start… anything information that helps calm the crowd… that’s when you should implement something like the pizza board!

Today’s quote “hard vs. easy, top vs. climbing”… let’s explore this.

Your goal with the Infinity Marketing Machine is to attract a tribe.  A tribe made up of followers that know, like, and trust you.

This is the group that you will share information with that will help them learn more about why they follow you… for example, you’ll share information they desire! You’re not here to lecture… but to bond.

SO… how many followers do you need?

There’s no real answer to that question.  Great news right?  Well, this is the art of the tribe.  And when people say “art” you know it’s a fluffy way to say, we don’t know why it works but as a “guideline” just keep going doing “it” until “it” doesn’t work anymore.

SO then why attract a tribe at all?

And that’s when I jump back to today’s quote “hard vs. easy, top vs. climbing” — this quote talks about YOU keeping going.  Whether things are going great or not, you keep going.

Well, in another light — your tribe is NEVER on the same journey.  They are humans that also have personal up’s and down’s, high’s and lows… or life is easy, hard, they’re on top, or climbing” and that’s why you need a tribe.

When you offer your tribe a piece of content… some will think “That’s totally me” and some will scroll right past it.

There’s a “general” person you are writing to and never forget that.  But also never forget that for what ever reason your message will be “lost” on a good portion of your tribe.  That’s why there is no magic number of attraction, other than to attract!

Your goal is to bond the tribe so when you do provide content or an offer that your tribe that day says “heck yes – that’s awesome”.

So every day… speak and engage… your tribe is listening, and you might say something that they NEED to hear.

The other day I was watching YouTube… OK, it wasn’t so much I was watching YouTube — it was more like something came up in my feed, then something else came up in my feed, and then I was watching double trampoline world championships.

I don’t consider this binge watching…

It’s more like you just get sucked into one thing and another and all of a sudden you’re like “what the F am I watching?”

I suppose this could be a post about content… but I’m going with the consistency angle.

While intrigued at the double trampoline competition — and this is it… they use the 80’s style aerobic mini-tramps that Richard Simmons used to bounce on… but they do these absolutely amazing super whallop twisting turning flipping thingies!

Then they land on the second trampoline and do it again!

But sometimes they fall.

World Champion Level SUPER tumblers… fall.

It’s like watching an Olympic Skater…. fall, a basketball player miss a free throw, the golfer who has the ball hang on the corner of the cup…

Failure happens.

But failure can only happen when you try, but typically when you consistently try the failure becomes less and less… you consistently become better and better!

This means… that you need to be consistent in your content.  Sometimes you’ll have a flop.

The post won’t get the response you think it should or hoped it would… but just like the trampoline fails – you will bounce back… (haha – that was a pun)

But seriously, be consistent, keep going – not everything will be amazing.  But with consistency you will produce better content that will bond your tribe!

Here’s a funny thing I noticed this holiday season… there was a lot of hype about discounts, specials, and bargains… but I didn’t see a lot about “the season of giving”

That’s why this post caught my eye…

As you are looking for your “Big Money Small Change” idea, why not expand your universe.

How hard would it be to host an event that proceeds are donated, or collections are organized for charity?

Like in the example above, lots of people have extra “stuff” in their closets and the right event might get the “stuff” into the hands that can use it.

Be the coordinator.

As we head into the last week of the year… lead your tribe.  Coordinate the coat drive, canned food drive, or even the donated proceeds campaign.

This is an event… it’s OK to make money at it… no one says you have to work for free, just take a minute to help make it a “season of giving”

On Christmas Eve my sister said something ironic.. she just sat down at the dining room table and said, “do I have a kid’s chair?” — the chairs at my parents table are kinda squishy and she sunk down… she went on a mini rant which concluded, “I need a phone book”

Even though we have Google on our smart phones… it doesn’t do any good at propping you up at the dinner table!  I mean, what are you going to do… sit on your ipad?

But to you remember the Yellow Pages?

You’d have to decide what your ad would be for an entire year and confirm the design 4 months before it went to publication…

Imagine if you had to plan ahead like this now.

You create a product and “shoot” you missed the phone book deadline, the next time you could get your ad into the book could be 16 months from now.

WOAH

What if you wanted to run an ad right now… you just open Facebook or your email and within 30 minutes you’ve got traffic.

That’s the incredible part of change.

It’s also the part that boggles the mind.

I remember our small phone book ad used to run about $800 a month and that’s pretty similar to a Facebook Ad Campaign… but what about creating a tribe instead.

Tribes are not free… you do put a lot of sweat equity into them with content development and being consistent, but in the above example of running an ad RIGHT NOW – you know that an Infinity Customer has developed trust with you and will pay attention when they open your email.

Phone books were crazy things and they did work… but the phone book can’t beat having a tribe you can send an email to at a moments notice.  Well it can’t beat a tribe except when you need a boost to your dinner chair!
