Tic Tock… what’s that?  OH it’s time.

I love to hear people when they say, I don’t have time.   Especially when it has to do with strengthening their knowledge.  “I don’t have time to go to classes to learn X” and yet… they have time to complain.  OR better yet, in three years when they reap the benefit of taking the classes to learn X they will STILL have the time to complain.

It doesn’t make sense.

When you want your business to grow you need to market yourself.  We regularly go over this “why” behind this statement, so I’ll review it… we need to market ourselves because people want to do business with people.

Therefore, you need to put yourself out there.  There’s a funny thing that happens when you “put yourself out there” and that is that you automatically become a public presence.

Now… that doesn’t mean an expert.

Let’s look at Hollywood and politics.  I’m not going to use names but why on earth does anyone think that someone who stars in movies has any basis for political guidance.

I guess it doesn’t matter “why on earth” the fact is, they have a voice and they have a stage.  (I ripped that off from my favorite singer/songwriter Kenny Chesney which is pretty amazing because I really like Debbie Gibson, too. It was the 80s)  Back to the quote “voice and stage” – I heard an interview with Kenny Chesney speaking of the hurricanes that hit the islands.

He didn’t know what he could do to help, but he had a “voice and a stage” hummmmmm….

Kinda powerful.

Back to the lame-o stars and politics.  Oh boy, by nature of their work they also have a voice and stage.  They choose to use it for political purposes.

What the heck does this have to do with you and today’s inspiration?  The purpose of your business is to give you the ability to exist and thrive doing something you enjoy.  As such, what happens when that all disappears?

OH chrimmity, not in the morbid sense…  but maybe you’ll get bored.

Then what?

Let’s say you’ve sold Real Estate for 30 years… and you’re burned out.  That doesn’t make the knowledge disappear.  However, if you’ve positioned yourself as a Subject Matter Expert, with a blog and taken the TIME to continually invest in youself, you could “quit” selling homes and start consulting.  OR if you’re a teacher, doctor, sales person, there are so many possibilities for your “after” career

BUT

You need to start now.

Think of positioning yourself as your “spring board” to the next thing… continue to work at what you are doing, but utilize your TIME to invest in yourself so you can SPRING to the next possibility… because you never know when that could happen!

Monday:  Subject Matter Expert

I picked today’s quote to help us all understand the important reason behind WHY we need to position ourselves as Subject Matter Experts.

Confidence.

Confidence is a simple word that is terribly complex.  We want to appear confident but at the same time not so confident that we are arrogant.  However, there is the danger of underselling our accomplishments in an effort to humble that creates a compeetitive disadvantage.

That’s why today’s inspiration is fantastic.

Use it as a tool to inspire confidence in your ability to inspire confidence!  (I couldn’t resist)

The first C of the Infinity Marketing Machine is “C”redibility.  It its our ability to create social proof with our tribe. We position ourselves as experts so that it builds the fundamental “trust” of know, like, and trust that is vital to bonding a tribe to you.

BUT… we know this.  We know that we should position ourselves as Subject Matter Experts.   We know that we should write a blog and “beef up” our About Me pages.  We know that we should share our knowledge… however, it’s uncomfortable OR seems like a time waster because we think, “who wants to know about me???”

It’s not about what you think, it’s about what your potential customers and potential future tribe thinks… they have ZERO confidence in you if you don’t tell them.

SO TELL THEM.

Spend the time to build the confidence that they need in you, and in turn you’ll find confidence in yourself.  And when you have confidence in yourself, others will have confidence in you… it’s like a big infinity loop.

This is a thank you and a post!

I recommend social proof as a great way to build your credibility.  Social proof can come from testimonials.  It can also come from followers.  This arrived in my alerts the other day from WordPress.

It’s exciting to receive notifications… but it’s also exciting to receive them when they look like a badge or an award.

The fun thing with this alert is that it could be used in your “about me” section to boost your credibility.  It could be used in an email… or even a post (like this).

So my dual purpose post is designed to show you how to use a milestone to create credibility AND it’s designed to thank you for taking your time to follow me.

I enjoy writing the blog – but it’s even nicer to see that people find it of interest to follow.  Thank you very much for your support, it’s humbling. 🙂

NOW… another end of year housekeeping note:

We’ve reached the last day of the year…  some infinitypreneurs may be looking for a charity to make a last minute donation to. Here are two of my favorites!

1) Operation Underground Railroad:  Their mission is to rescue victims of human trafficking.  YES, they actually go locate and physically rescue people who are being held in slavery, right now, today.  If the thought of children as sex slaves horrifies you, donate.

2) Mentors International:  Their mission is to provide small loans to entrepreneurs in underdeveloped countries.  And by small loans, the average loan is $283!  When a loan is paid back the entrepreneur can apply for another.  By the way, the default rate is 2.3%, therefore, the donations made are continually rolled over.  They’re doing great work.  Guess what… they also work with Operation Underground Railroad to help mentor rescued victims to help develop a source of income!

It’s Monday! Time for Subject Matter Expert Day.   You know, the time we decide that we need to boast wonderful things about ourselves…

Why is this so darn hard?  Maybe it’s difficult to “toot your own horn” because you feel like bragging is something that’s not you.  Well, I’ve said it before, the main reason we need to promote ourselves as a part of our branding is to build credibility.

Credibility is essential to tribe building because people want to do business with people.

This is the funny part of the internet.  It’s transformed the WAY we do business, not just automation… but with relationships.

That’s a crazy thing to think about because on many levels the internet has made things less personal – however, people do not want to do business with businesses like they did pre-internet… they want to do business with people.

That means boasting about what you’ve done.

Now, if you still aren’t “that” person who wants to be a bunch of awards, titles, and expertise… Let’s try a different angle.

How about if you think about how all of these awards, titles, and education make you an amazing person that your “tomorrow self” will be proud of…

Now we’re talking!

Take all of the wonderful attributes that give you social proof to enhance your credibility today so your tomorrow self looks back and thinks, I’m pretty cool. 🙂

You must let people know what to expect from you so that they will understand what they are getting when they hire you!  This is the reason you MUST share your why.

The best place to share your “why” is on your About Me page.  Seriously, I’m a believer in sharing your awards, titles, and accolades.  I think this is crucial.

However… what is your why?

WHY are you doing what ever it is from the time you get up till you go to sleep… meaning what the heck makes you YOU?

Our entire goal with Tribeology is to transform our customers from “one and done” to sticking with us until “Infinity” this is ONLY accomplished when the customer knows, likes, and trusts you…

In other words… to know, like, and trust you – they must KNOW you.  You’ve got to share your “why” – this is somewhat unnerving.  After all, if I say, “I’m a chocolate chip cookie expert that loves walking my chubby doodle named Mr. Pancake” are you going to want to read my blog?

Here’s the deal… if you think it’s strange, you are not a good fit for my blog.  I may have won the Best Profit Center Competition two times and increased revenue by $100,000 in 15 weeks at our family business… however, knowing that my dog is overweight and I’m obsessed with chocolate chip cookies, just might be strange to you – therefore, you will not be comfortable in my vibe, and never mesh with my tribe.

Remember, in addition to awards and accomplishments, make sure to share your personality in your About Me sections because the goal is to ATTRACT your ideal clients… because if we are not specific about who we are attracting, we will attract no one.

That’s true!

So… today… go and share the wonder and joy that is you!  Rewrite your About Me like you sat down next to someone at lunch you’ve never met and tell them who you are… first person, conversation style, and yes… you can humble brag.
