TribeologyBlog.com – Episode #741 – The Walking Ad

Saturday: Try This

Look what I found… a super easy, simple, and effective idea!  Grab a frame and put your advertisement inside.

That’s easy!

This was the bathroom at the hair salon I visited recently… it’s for some product they sell on the other side of the wall.

This is a cool memory recall idea.  Often you see this type of nice advertisement in a magazine, but you flip the page and forget about it…

Well, this framed ad has a unique advantage, you leave the restroom turn the corner and must see the product!

What a great opportunity, create your ad, put it in your ad in a frame that matches your style… then… make sure to have that actual product in the walking path of your customers!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 738 – Why All Things Fake Will Be Punished…

Quote: “Success in any relationship or endeavor begins with trust” Truett Cathy

Monday: Credibility

“Fake it till you make it.” we’ve all heard this catch phrase.  But here’s the scoop…  I predict something interesting is going to happen, and I think it will happen soon.

I believe all things fake will be punished.

There are four solid components of creating credibility for your business reputation.  They are to be trustworthy, consistent, competent, and genuine.

Do you trust a doctor that comes into your pre-op room and says, “OH we’ll get rid of that tonsil problem in no time” but you’re actually there for knee replacement?  Nope.  This would inspire absolutely no confidence.

These four components work in harmony.

However, we often operate (no pun intended) from the stand point of “fake it till I make it” – and most of the time it’s OK to fake the process.

For example, you’re not a consistent on your social media, it doesn’t feel natural.

Well… pretend you are! You’ve got to get into the habit and start.  Previously, you may never have been consistent, now you trying – however, until you are solid with the habit you’re “faking it”

But you can never “fake” the credibility stuff like your education, credentials, expertise, or social proof.

It’s the last one that I’m referring to in the “I believe all things fake will be punished” very soon.

Mark my words.  Coming soon the backlash against all things that have “tricked” us will be enormous.

The concept of “reality TV” is a great example.   This is not reality.  It’s scripted actors.  We are drawn into the “lives” but it’s not real.

It’s like “faking” positive reviews.

OR it’s like selling a car but instead of taking a photo of your current 2013 car you use the manufacturer’s stock photo from when it’s new.

I predict we are going to have a very big swing back to all things simple, trustworthy, and verifiable.

It just feels like we’re going to hit an era when scandals start to emerge.  We’ve seen it in the past in isolated cases when trusted leaders, officials, volunteer organizations, corporations, foundations, political leaders fall, but imagine when you get several of those tied together… it’s going to be a very loud thud.

How can you weather this?  Build genuine credibility now.  You may already be honest and genuine.  But really push this as your main talking points.

Look to where your traffic is coming from and build your own data base.

All things “fake” will be off limits that means traffic from paid sponsors, such as influencers.  As I’m observing trends, I think this backlash against fake will be huge.  When we start to doubt the main leaders like political and religious leaders or we start to doubt trusted charities and corporations the next to fall will be anything that doesn’t “feel” real like celebrities, reality TV, and that leads to micro-celebrities (influencers).  Many are real, but getting paid to pitch a product might turn off an important revenue stream for your business.

You need to prepare for this now.

Build your own audience and do nothing but build trust.

Start today.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 735 – What Are You Really Selling?

Quote: “Your passion leads to your purpose”

Thursday: Infinity Customer

Why are you doing what you do?

If you answer… money.  That’s not good enough.  You need a purpose.  You must be able to wake up every day and feel the passion for what you are doing – if it’s just money, it won’t work.

Sure you might have a “good run” of a year or several years in business, however, there will come a point where you wake up and dread getting out of bed.

You must have a passion for what you are doing.

NOW… this is different from having a charitable purpose.  One trend with companies seems to be when you automatically donate a percentage of sales to a cause.  You “passionately” promote this service based aspect.  It doesn’t make you money, but it does allow you to  be a “good person” and think beyond your own walls.

Maybe you have your charitable purpose only at the holidays — that’s OK too.

But, this is not passion. You may be passionate about the service aspect… but it’s not enough, and not enough to get you through the long days of trudging forward.

You must find your passion.

If you simply love to make money and the quickest route is to sell “stuff” and it doesn’t matter what the stuff is… again, one day you’ll wake up and think – why am I selling stuff.

If you are selling stuff it’s nearly impossible to blog about it with passion.  You might be able to say “sale sale sale” but you cannot possibly get to the heart of the product.

It’s like this… we sell a forklift service for boating. Think of it like a valet service, you call ahead and in an hour your boat is taken out of the warehouse and launched for your use.  When we stopped selling the mechanical aspect of the “forklfit goes into the warehouse, lifts your boat, drives, and lanches” OR when we stopped selling the benefits of “no algae build up, out of the weather in storms, no need for a trailer” and instead started focusing on the outcomes, we found our passion leads to purpose.

Our purpose if to help customers to go boating.  But our passion is boating.

Customers may only have 45 minutes after work for a cruise and they don’t have time to launch the boat, but they want the memories with their kids… we provide the means for memories.

When we started to sell our purpose – the passion fell into place.

In order to transform from “one and done” to “infinity” you must be able to get your customers to transform to a tribe with a common passion that you share with them.  The passion is critical to the Infinity Marketing Machine.   The passion keeps the wheel’s moving – but you know what – the purpose, your purpose is what you talk about… it’s the information.

If you are having difficulty developing topics for posts or stories for blogs – you are having a purpose problem.  Ask yourself “why am I doing this?” that will lead you to the passion — when you know your passion, that’s what’s attracting your tribe together with you.  Talk about things that support the passion!t

Again.. find your passion and you’ll find your purpose.

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 732 – Why Do You Want to Compete for Local Awards?

‎Quote: ”A goal should scare you a little, and excite you a lot.” Joe Vitale

Monday : Subject Matter Expert

Are awards important?

Yes and no… if you are the local bakery and enter your pie into the State Fair and win a blue ribbon then YES it’s important.

If you are an exercise guru and enter a pie eating contest and win… hummmmm maybe not.

Awards are fun and keep you at the top of your game.  But what about the message it send to someone that doesn’t know you?  The award is a 3rd party endorsement of whatever you competed in.

Here’s the deal though, you need to look for opportunities.  Sometimes you may think that the award is small or trivial, but there’s no such thing.  If someone wants to recognize your accomplishment(s) – that’s quite an honor.

This recognition from 3rd party is critical to building your credibility!  Awards are a great way to  gain immediate trust with your prospective customers because someone else has recognized you!

I think the most common award a business can participate in is the award your local newspaper hosts. Typically this is an award that comes via getting your customers to “vote” for you on their site.  The winners receive an award for your office and logo for your website.

Well… this award, at a minimum, gives you social proof in your local community!  What a better recognition than to have your customers vote for you to win!  It also builds a bond with your customers, they helped to get your business recognized.

Pretty cool!

This awards also acts as a stepping stone to the next award.

Your next award may be a state or regional trade organization – they often have a section on their application that asks for honors/awards received… well using that local award proves that a different organization was willing to lend their good name to promote YOU!

And finally, the regional award leads to the national award.  Imagine being a national winner or nationally recognized… that’s a really cool thing!

But this all start with your local award, the one that is right in front of you if only to take few moments to compete.

Guess what your homework is for today?  Find the award and COMPETE!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 726 – I’ve Been Doing This for…

Quote: Escape the ordinary

Monday: Subject Matter Expert

Yesterday I had a conversation with one of my crew members.  We were talking about how “young” people simply cannot carry on conversations… especially on the phone.

It’s ironic because “back in my day” it was important, or a rite of passage, to talk on the phone for hours at a time.  Now a days “kids” don’t have verbal conversations… They often look at you or they have rude/abrupt answers.

So, what does this have to do with our Monday post about “Subject Matter Expert”?

Well, when I started the conversation, I said, “I’ve been supervising this age group for 25 years and… blah blah blah”

I heard myself saying this while I spoke.  And I giggled on the inside.

The principles of “Subject Matter Expert” are everywhere!  Just start looking for them (or listening to yourself)

When you realize that you have your very own “I’ve been doing this for 25 years” moment, you’ll understand that a certain level of credibility comes from experience.

You possibly say these things on a daily basis… experience is a natural hand-in-hand part of Subject Matter Expertise.

If you’re stuck and trying to decide “how” to position yourself as a subject matter expert and emphasize your expertise on your website or “about me” portion of any social media page… just think of how you introduce yourself in real life!  The times you say, “I’ve been using this, selling this, supervising this, for 10 years” – that’s a good starting point for discovering what to write about your expertise!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 676 – Question Asked… Question Answered.

Quote: “Even the Genius Asks Questions.”

Monday: Subject Matter Expert

How can you serve your customers? That’s an important question to answer.

I’ve found the best way to serve is through information.  Sure, positioning yourself as a Subject Matter Expert helps with your credibility…but really, being a Subject Matter Expert only happens with information.  Information you provide.

So how do you know you’re providing the right information?

Feedback really helps.  However… we’re not always lucky enough to have feedback so then how do you know you’re providing the “right” information?  Start with a great big list of questions!

This really is a great way to get to the information your customers want.  Take time to write down every question you’ve ever been asked.  Just write… hold a brainstorm session with yourself and think to a customer interaction and write down what you are asked!

The next step is to answer every question you wrote down! This becomes a very big and valuable asset to your customers!  When you post it on your website your customers can research and find the answers to the “common” questions AND this makes them more comfortable, often spurring more complex questions…

This way when they call they can get real “buyer” questions answered – it saves them time (and it saves you time).

It’s a great way to serve!

TribeologyBlog.com – Episode 658 – How Being Relatable Boosts Credibility

Quote: “I learned the value of hard work by working hard.” -Margaret Mead

Monday: Subject Matter Expert

What is credibility? We need to be very concerned with it to build trust with our followers, but what is it?

Credibility is anything that lends proof to your abilities.

The most common type of “proof” is an award.  Whether you’re top sales person or your industry “…of the year” – when an award comes from a third party source it’s like having an independent source say, “this person is amazing”.  That’s why awards are great.

But what if you don’t have any awards… then what?

Well, you can use your creativity to still find social proof.

What’s McDonald’s slogan… 1 Billion served?  haha… I think right on their sign it says, “billions and billions served” — well if a billion people have eaten there, it must be good, right?  So how many people have YOU served?  This is one great way to gain credibility.

You can list your education certificates and degrees, but you can also list the conferences and seminars you’ve attended.  If you speak at the conference, that’s HUGE credibility.  that means an organization thinks your knowledge is superior that they want you to teach their attendees!

Finally… another great way to say “BOOM” and capture your piece of credibility is to say what your sales are.  I recently started to learn from a new mentor… she’s sold a whole bunch online, she just said 40 million (in the course of her history) – but it’s amazing because she’s just as excited to make $600.  I was blown away at the 40 million, but honestly, the enthusiasm at $600 is real.  I can set a goal at 40 million, but I can relate to $600.

It’s a great lesson to learn and understand… when you are relatable you automatically gain credibility.

Go Be Relatable.
