I love when I check my feeds in Facebook or Instagram and find amazing posts to share with you!

Since we’re always looking for new ways to increase our money this might be a great idea for you.  Maybe not exactly like it, but if you grasp the spirit you’ll be rocking it!

This post is from a baton twirling group.  Remember, I competed fro 17 years so it’s fun to still follow teams and see how the sport evolves… one evolution is the introduction of social media on the business side.

There’s something in baton twirling called a 1-turn.  It’s when you toss the baton in the air and while it’s out of your hand, you turn around once and catch the baton.  You can do a 2-turn… which is two spins.  3-turn… 4-turn… etc.  YES, the very good competitors get up to 9ish, it’s pretty incredible.

BUT you have to start somewhere and that somewhere is the 1-turn. It’s a milestone. Honestly, it’s the first “real” trick that separates the new students from those on their way to competition levels.

SO, back to the post.  This girl was at practice and caught her 1-turn!  Look at how they celebrated.  The studio has a chalkboard and wrote the milestone on it for the girl to stand in front of the studio logo on the wall!

The caption said “she joined the 1-turn club”

This is a pretty exciting way to showcase your product (lessons) as a brand.  LOOK AT THIS… it’s tribe building.  You celebrate your student’s success and share with your online family so they too can celebrate!  It motivates the girl who achieved the milestone, shows your teaching success, and can create a shareable moment.

And it’s an Infinity promotion. You erase the chalk board and wait for the next milestone… the wall is a great decor item that serves double duty.

This is a “very big money small change” item.

How can you do this?   Use creativity –  like our quote says… make it special.

For me… We have a marina… We could do this by celebrating “my first boat ride” or “my first visit to Lake Minnetonka” create a certificate, award to the customer, and take a photo in front of our sign and post online!

Done consistently, it’s a fantastic content creator!

So let’s see… of our 5 C’s we have…

  1. Character (Subject Matter Expert) – YEP, success at teaching.
  2. Content – YEP – it’s a content generator
  3. Consistency – YEP – it’s going to happen again…
  4. Customer – YEP – the student is celebrated
  5. Cash – it likely will build excitement for others to want to join.

This is a home run for Tribeology!

We’ve made it to Thursday – the day we talk about our Infinity Customers!  The thing I wanted to chat about is there are two sides to our Infinity Customers… side one is the buying side and side two is the nurturing side.

These are very different sides.

Let’s look at the benefits of the two sides.

If we operated under the “One and Done” style of business that we have traditionally grown up with we would create an ad.  It’s focus would be on that product or service we sell.  People would buy and we would look for more customers.

Clearly, we still need to do advertising, but… there is a new way.

The new way is when we create our Infinity Marketing Machine and get ready for new customers to join us on a journey.  We find them (or they find us) and they enter our machine.  This machine is geared to make them want to stay.  Sure they found us with an intent to buy something… but after they buy, they don’t leave.

They stay!

This is totally different.

Sure, we used to keep a “mailing list” and when we wanted to sell something we would create a letter or postcard and send to the customers… but now we entertain them.

At the heart of it, we are creating a tribe.  The tribe stays.

I look at how we did business 20 years ago, we kept (and still keep) a mailing list.  Our customers rent boats, and at the beginning of the next season we would send a invite to come out and enjoy the lake… by renting a boat.  This model will still work.

BUT now…

All winter long, once a week, our customers receive an email from us.  Each week we talk about what is going on around the marina and in the area.  We share our vibe.  By the time the spring comes, they’ve already seen us working on the motors, cleaning the interiors, launching in the lake, watching the ice melt, and hiring new crew.  We really have no reason to send a postcard to welcome to the lake, they’ve lived the experience, in real time, as it has happened.

This is the nurturing side.

As for the buying side… well, that happens when they rent a boat.  We do still have traditional advertising which generates business, BUT… again, we switched our focus to capture leads instead of the “one and done” cash register ring.

It’s VERY scary to make the jump.  We are getting ever so close to our 60th year of business, and to leave everything you’ve known about “one and done” in exchange for “infinity” is scary.

Here’s the funny thing, I didn’t send out that “welcome” letter in the summer of 2018.  It didn’t even occur to me, I noticed I didn’t send it about a week ago… and you know what, we INCREASED sales in our rentals last summer.

Infinity works.  It IS well worth it, IF you are willing to commit to the 5 C’s… Character, Content, Consistency, Customers, Cash.   When you fully Commit, it works.

hahaha – That’s the hidden C… Commit.

Therefore, if you commit to the continuous nurturing of your tribe building the buying side will take care of itself!

I picked today’s quote to help us all understand the important reason behind WHY we need to position ourselves as Subject Matter Experts.

Confidence.

Confidence is a simple word that is terribly complex.  We want to appear confident but at the same time not so confident that we are arrogant.  However, there is the danger of underselling our accomplishments in an effort to humble that creates a compeetitive disadvantage.

That’s why today’s inspiration is fantastic.

Use it as a tool to inspire confidence in your ability to inspire confidence!  (I couldn’t resist)

The first C of the Infinity Marketing Machine is “C”redibility.  It its our ability to create social proof with our tribe. We position ourselves as experts so that it builds the fundamental “trust” of know, like, and trust that is vital to bonding a tribe to you.

BUT… we know this.  We know that we should position ourselves as Subject Matter Experts.   We know that we should write a blog and “beef up” our About Me pages.  We know that we should share our knowledge… however, it’s uncomfortable OR seems like a time waster because we think, “who wants to know about me???”

It’s not about what you think, it’s about what your potential customers and potential future tribe thinks… they have ZERO confidence in you if you don’t tell them.

SO TELL THEM.

Spend the time to build the confidence that they need in you, and in turn you’ll find confidence in yourself.  And when you have confidence in yourself, others will have confidence in you… it’s like a big infinity loop.

Today we’re looking at the 4th “C” of the Infinity Marketing Machine, Customers.  The concept of customers is easy.  You have people that buy stuff from you.

But… the Infinity Marketing Machine as a part of Tribeology switches your thinking from “one and done” to “infinity”.  This means you want to keep your customers around for a while.

AND this brings me to Newton.  He asked Why.  With a bunch of apples on the ground, he wanted to know why.

Don’t you?  (I’m not a real science type gal so in terms of apple… yeah, I’m part of the millions)

BUT

When it comes to customers… heck yeah!  I want to know WHY.

Why do they stick around and why is it important… I can share with you the magic of creating a tribe… but if you don’t believe in WHY it doesn’t matter.

Let’s explore why on customers.

Most likely you’re tired of spending $$$$$$ on Facebook.  You’ve optimized, tweaked, and studied your numbers, photos, and words for your ads, but your stuck.

Here’s why… they don’t think you give a poo what happens to them once they click “yes” to your ad!  Cold truth… but WHY should they stick around?

Now, compare that to all of the work and effort you must do to build a tribe.  You think about what they find useful, you provide it for them consistently, and you position yourself as an industry leader… then they stay.

SO we have two why’s.  The first Why is why do customers stay… and the second why is why you want them to stay.

They stay because you want them to stay.

As soon as you embrace this… then you can become the vibe behind the tribe.  Believe it or not… you are giving off a vibe.  If your vibe is “I don’t care if they stay” they won’t.  If you give off a vibe that “This is the coolest place to spend time and money” they’ll stay.

The choice is yours.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!  Do you like the “red and green” header graphic for today?  I am a little in the Christmas Spirit.

Today we’re creating content and I wanted to show you want I did with one simple tree… yes a tree.

I’ve been able to create about 20 different pieces of content from one Christmas Tree and it is something everyone can do… if you plan.  Now, by plan I don’t mean several hours. Infact it took about one hour to assemble the tree and take photos.  The videos took a little longer…

However, the ability to turn the cute little tree into a special event is something I wanted to share with you!

Above you’ll see my “Pontoon Girl Mini-Tree”! Pontoon Girl is my brand devoted to the “Pontoon Girl Lifestyle”.  So what I did for fun was created a special “Pontoon Girl Tree”!

A couple weeks ago I wrote an article in my weekly newsletter that talked about creating a mini-tree to bring the nautical lifestyle inside your home if you’re not lucky enough to boat year round.  That’s why I created this cute little tree.

Why am I mentioning it here?

Well… this has turned into a “special event” – it’s a special event that have utilized to create many magic moments of content.

Here are some of the in-progress photos….

Next I took a bunch of the photos and created a slide/movie presentation… I’ve posted on YouTube.  And this allows me to use in emails AND on Facebook.

Then for fun I created other boomerang videos, too!

 

Finally… I have bundled this cute little tree with my PontoonGirlContest.com which is a drawing for a free Pontoon Girl Blanket.   THIS is my ultimate goal.  I had fun creating the tree.  It was based on a topic that is already familiar with my tribe… but really, getting new people in to my tribe involves the contest.

Look I used the tree as the backdrop for the blanket!

You can do this “reuse content” strategy, too!

Sometime stop and think… when you take one photo…. can you multiply it into a special event type of content generating machine?

It’s been very fun… a little hectic seeing as how it’s Christmas… but well worth it!

BTW:  One final tip… I have purchased a new domain PontoonGirlContest.com for a specific reason.  Longevity.  Whether you read this in 2018 or several months, or years from now the domain can be valid.  I’m creating the site with a contest page that can update with a new contest versus creating a page and using bit.ly it’s a personal preference. However, if you look “long game” this is a great strategy.

Let’s Kick Ass!  I could say “kick butt” but I thought you’d all appreciate a little rough and tumble speak.

I changed the key word to butt for my baton group.  But regardless of the word, the sentiment remains the same.  Get up, take action, and do it again.

When it comes to our customers we want to get up, take action, and do it again.  We devote Tuesday to our Content and Consistency topic which helps us provide information for our customers that will build loyalty and transform them into a cohesive tribe.

So then what… you’ve got a tribe…

Well, don’t end up in the “friends zone”.  Gosh, I crack myself up with these analogizes but sometimes they are soooooo perfect.

You are in business to make money. But, tribeology cautions you to provide information and focus on loyalty and trust… so how do you get someone to be an infinity customer?  You have to offer items they want to buy!

Think about your tribe and share product offerings as you would sitting at the kitchen table talking to a friend.  If your friend would sitting there, you wouldn’t start rambling the features of the product, you’d talk about how it benefited you.

Focus on the benefits, successes, or how it changed YOUR life. As I say, products you OFFER to your tribe… not products you SELL to your tribe.

When you have your “kick ass” moment… learn from it… and repeat!  Be careful not to end up in the Friends Zone.
