How’s it going?  If you’re like anyone else I’ve talked to today it’s almost minute by minute.

The virus situation has left everyone without a direction.

Well, not everyone.  There are plenty of people that are ready to roll in this type of crisis.

I’m not talking about the people hoarding products.  I’m talking about the people who have been there before…

And by “been there before” I’m referring to a crisis.

It seems like there are two camps. Those that have given up or bought into the bad, and those that are fighting.  I think it has to do more with the stages of grief.  But let’s just say in a time when things are out of your control you need to find something to control.

That’s when the fight in you needs to take over.

One great quote, that you’ve probably hear before, is “the money is in the list” – that means your list of contacts provide you money.

What if you had a list, right now, that you could email and share a special product you made with them.  Something they desire and want to buy…

That is what you are working for… and if you don’t have a list, start!

Take this opportunity to attract people to your business.  Just because you are “closed” or because the phone has stopped ringing… it doesn’t mean that people have stopped buying.

They are just as lost as you and looking for a leader.

Start attracting them by sharing information they desire.  When they get this information you build trust.  I sent an email earlier today to our core customers and it’s sitting at about a 61% open rate… it will grow. 

I’m working on a couple of big projects to help bond this group and build loyalty.  It’s not designed to sell them more, it’s designed to keep them.

If you’re not talking to your customers… someone else will.

Get out there and decide to build the bond.  This will get better, don’t wait until it does, start the chatting now.

Even if it’s just 4 people on your list, just talk to them.  This is a long term plan but it’s a great way to build an asset at your business.

In the middle of December I signed up for an online course.  Since it’s Monday I thought this would be an excellent topic.  It’s a “walk the walk” type of story…

Monday is the day we discuss how to increase our social proof.  We want to have our customers “know like and trust us” and an amazing way to do this is to position ourselves as leaders of the tribe.

But to be the leader we must have information to lead… so back to my original statement… back in December I signed up for an online course.

I’ve wanted to create a course to create students of the Infinity Marketing Machine.  I know I teach the concept in this blog… but the importance of registering for a course and going deep into how it can help you at your business is an exciting idea to me.

But, I’m not a classically trained teacher. I’m a marketer.  Sure we tell stories and seek to understand the needs and wants of our customers, but teaching is a different art. Thus, I’ve been stuck in the middle of a bunch of ideas without a focus.

The course I registered for helped to focus the idea, and then I started learning.  Oh my, the instructors are amazing.  I love writing research reports… I know that sounds like a crazy thing, but it’s something I enjoy.

But the missing piece was to get out of my own way and think of what a student would need.  The ability to go back to what made me excited to start out and discover the Infinity Marketing Machine and figure out how to teach that.

Well… the “Infinity Product” was born, sort of, it’s been a busy 6 weeks of messaging, tweaking, and putting together an amazing product to help people really understand how an infinity product will benefit the customers/tribe at their own business.

It’s been fun… but I realized today – while I’m done with a lot of it, I have a whole bunch more to go!

That’s why today’s quote was so much fun. 

“You need a vision that is so big that it is compelling, not only to others, but to you.”

Well… I’m freaked out by my vision, just like you are when I encourage you to create content on a consistent basis.  When teach that you need to lead and continue to do things to build your credibility… it’s scary to put yourself out there. 

But congratulations, I’m happy you are!  So today, put yourself in your customer’s shoes.  Think about what they need from you to see you as a leader.  Do they need to hear a story of your most recent accomplishment, an article you just read, a seminar you attended about a new law or regulation affecting your industry.

What do your customers need to hear from you?

Now give it to them.

What is the easiest way to have the same life tomorrow that you have today and you had yesterday?

Do nothing different.  Keep doing the same thing the same way.

I know I know… you love my random thoughts, so this won’t disappoint…

But yesterday I was driving down a road I’ve driven down, nearly daily for the last 35 years… OMG, has it been that long.  Dang. Just about.

OK

That wasn’t my point.

But there was this skinny runner coming at me… you know the type, they look in pain, like they’re not having fun, and basically the running dead.

She was thin and I thought, how the heck can she be that thin?  What does she do to be THAT thin…

And the reason she’s that thin is a bunch of tiny decisions that are multiplied over the course of a today, yesterday and will continue tomorrow.

Me… this profound thought was occurring as I downed a Diet Pepsi and took a bite of my chocolate chip cookie while driving.

Yeah, we were about as opposite as a fish and a bird. 

When you think about learning how to create an Infinity Marketing Machine and you’re paying money to run ads on Facebook, really think about the thin runner… every day she is making decisions that lead to our paths crossing… AND someday, if she chooses, she could become a cookie eating driver.

It’s possible.

If she started small, and got up late because she stayed up late… and took one bite of the fresh baked cookie… I have every confidence that morning run would be off the list.

She could do it… just like you can write content and build your tribe.

But you really have to try.  You have to make the effort to stop running and start eating cookies.  I mean you have to start creating content your tribe craves, just like chocolate chip cookies… they want the information and you are the only one that can provide it.

Give it to them, lead them!

I have every confidence you can do it, but you’ve got to get out of your comfort zone and make a change!

OK so why did I write that at the top of my post?

Apparently… voice search has become an important consideration in your content marketing searching techniques. 

I just read an article that said you should put your key words in the first sentence and in the last sentence and every 150 words along the way… that’s waaaay too much trouble. However, I figured I’d try the first sentence AND tell you another tip at the same time.

Did you see how I wrote the same thing two very different ways?

“What are easy content marketing ideas?”

“easy content marketing ideas”

(HA – maybe I will hit the every 150 words)

Ahhhhh — ok the reason it’s important to include a full question is just incase you shout (in frustration) – “Hey Siri, what are easy content marketing ideas?” — you would do this instead of “Hey Siri easy content marketing ideas” we don’t speak that way… we speak in sentences. 

So what are these content marketing tips?

I also just read a great article about top NEW trends in content marketing.  Now I’m not sure if that’s a searchable term… may I should ask, “what are the top new trends in content marketing for small businesses?”

Now, I’m just entertaining myself.

But here’s what number one was… video.  Yeppers that red record button and speaking – especially live is a critical component to content marketing.

I need to do this.

I enjoy writing articles like this to help you learn content marketing and consistency in posting it to build your Infinity Marketing Machine… and more important your tribe!  After all that consistency in content will build trust and you must have trust to bond the customers and transform into a tribe. 

This apparently, well according to the article, is happening with video!  SO… I will get on board and start creating videos.  Ugh.  But they will be awesome!

OK what else did I learn from this Top New Trends in Content Marketing?  (Ha. did it again)

I learned conversational marketing is HUGE.

This is email… messaging… texting… it’s that feeling of an actual conversation.  It’s exactly what we teach here!  I’m so excited you started visiting me… everyday we have a different topic to the blog.

Today is Content and Consistency.  And today’s article is on content… and the content I’m providing is an article on the Top new trends in content marketing that I found in an article I just read.

But other than the shameless keyword packing… I’m actually teaching you HOW to use this type of content strategy (minus the sarcastic comments) to have an impact at your small business.

Ultimately, I’m teaching you how to create content by giving you a content example that is useful to YOU.

Build your Infinity Marketing Machine and create that tribe through email marketing. Even though email has been around a long time, it’s style has been named a top trend in content marketing… this year! Email marketing is about a hip as it gets AND as a small business, it’s levels the playing field for you.

Do IT.

Finally… the last cool topic I’ll mention is the ability to personalize messaging for your customers. 

This is something that a small business can really utilize.  Imagine if you’re in a blizzard… send out your email of photos of your product in a blizzard instead of the standard photos on a shelf.

If it’s 80 degrees, utilize the hot weather theme to the customers in the heat!

Really match the reality of your customer with your message.

This is the ultimate top trend in content marketing for small businesses that I found… it’s an area where you can excel.

So how did I do?  Did I manage to get my key word phrase of, “What are easy content marketing ideas?” in the article in useful ways?

We’ll find out… good luck on using these trends.  I think they are useful and will help with your impact in content marketing!

Have you ever stood at the free throw line, bounced the ball, and shot… and made it?

DANG!

Best feeling ever… right?

So why don’t you play professional basketball?  I mean you made a free throw…

It’s because you won’t put in the work to make consistent free throws!

Everyone can do something good… once… but the key to success is the to be good consistently!  This is what takes practice and discipline.

When you create your core product or service at your business you spent a great deal of time perfecting it… and you still do this.  The reason you are successful is because you continue to be consistent with your results.

The same is true for your Infinity Marketing Machine… you need to be consistent with your content.  It’s important to share information with your tribe regularly.  Otherwise they will miss you and they’ll leave.

As you plan your day, take five minutes to develp your consistency plan.  Will you post once a week, three times a week… and what time of day… be very specific.  Being consistent once a week is more valuable than posting four times a week this week, none next week, and twice in one day the following week.

You need to be consistent!

Could you imagine if you made money from ideas.  And not ideas that you put to paper, protect, and sell… but just ideas.

OH I’d have so much money.

But ideas don’t make money… unless you do something with them.  That’s when the hard part comes into play.

You must be willing to implement an idea.  The bad part about that is you have no idea what are good ideas and what are bad ideas… OK you kinda know what is a bad idea.  My idea to dispense Diet Pepsi out of the water spout on my refrigerator – probably bad.

But good ideas, dang those are hard!

This is why the Infinity Marketing Machine is not done by everyone.

The idea is easy:  Attract customers, nurture them with interesting content, then offer products they desire, and make sales!

EASY.

Oh but the implementation.

It’s hard.

You need to develop a content calendar OR at the minimum decide to be consistent with a regular day to send out information.

But what do you send?  It can start to feel tedious, mundane, or worse!  This is when the implementation must kick in.

Again, everyone here understands the “unfun” side of feeding the content monster.  It can be all consuming — however, if you plan ahead and come up with a content calendar or at least an agenda and topics that are interesting to you – you will be able to provide meaningful content to your tribe.

So today — decide that you will implement, because this idea is awesome!

The Infinity Marketing Machine is based on a 5C pillar system of Credibility, Content, Consistency, Customers, and Cash.  That’s why I’ve chosen this blog to spend each day on a different “C”.

But you know what’s fun…

When I find a quote that says something very similar… and that’s today’s topic for credibility!

Money is not cash… it’s the “THING” that makes trading two wants equal.  It would be hard to be a dancer that wants gum from the convenience store and find a store owner that appreciates a single leap enough to trade for gum.

However, if the dancer sells tickets to a performance and accepts money for the tickets, the dancer can go to the convenience store to get gum.

Normally I’d use chocolate chip cookies for my examples… but I’m trying to cut sugar out of my diet and I dislike gum.

SO… back to the quote and how it relates to our 5C system.

Money is credibility, credible relationships, character and competence.

When you build your Infinity Marketing Machine – you provide content that attracts a tribe… and you must provide that content consistently to build trust.

This trust is your action and follow through which is your relationship trust and is different from the trust you gain as a Subject Matter Expert based off your character.

But the character trust is what makes your content reliable and worth coming back again and again as you consistently build your relationship.

Eventually the customer turns to a tribe that you offer items for sale that you know they desire and BOOM…that’s when your skills and trust transforms into money that you can use to buy gum.

The dancer showcases all of her Subject Matter Expertise on a stage to an audience willing to trade money for a ticket to see her provide content they will enjoy, but the cash is just the equalizer to allow her to buy gum.  It’s the trust that brings them into the theater.

Build trust and eventually you’ll be able to buy gum.

So who is the star of the show?  Clearly it’s Monday so it’s “Subject Matter Expert Day”… so you think it’s you, right?

UM, it might be…

But the purpose of positioning yourself as a Subject Matter Expert is to allow others to gain trust in your background making you more credible.

For example, I can tell you to use the 5 pillars of the Infinity Marketing Machine, “Credibly, Content, Consistency, Customers, and Cash” and leave it at that… but if I say, I sent out one email and generated $1,800 in sales in two hours… or if I said that a week ago I sent out two emails in 4 days and generated $17,000 in sales, that makes your ears perk up…

However, that doesn’t make me the star.

YOU are the star… (in this case).

What do I mean?

I mean make your customer the star.  In a WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) world you’ve people only care about how something effects them.

That means my above examples are only good in that YOU want to achieve these types of results… right?!?!?

Yep.

Now, it’s the Christmas season so here’s a little real world present for you.  And I think it’s fun!

Let’s jump back to your tribe member as the “star” in the context of making them a Subject Matter Expert.

What?

How on earth do you do that?

It’s super simple… You can do it by elevating their status.

Everyone loves a loyalty card, VIP group, or even a certificate.  These distinctions in your tribe will give others something to strive for…  And at times it will give them the opportunity to list it on their “resume” as a Subject Matter Expert.

How?

Have you ever attended a conference and paid for VIP access?

Well.. often as such there is an photo opportunity… depending on circumstances, this can be hung in their office, store, or even displayed on their website.

 

I had the opportunity to meet Gary Vaynerchuk at a VIP event.  And in return I got a photo.

Another way to help your tribe with their credibility and increase yours is to have a certificate… It doesn’t have to be a complicated process.

Here’s how I used this process… I created a “Clean Boater Pledge” program. If you’re a boater – make sure to take the pledge.

It’s a simple “yes” checkbox and when you’re done it emails you a digital certificate to print and display.

But what this does is adds to their credibility!  People that love boating and want to spread the word pledge to environmentally sound boating practices.

My brand PontoonGirl.com has an “army” of followers to help in our mission.  The followers are elevated, and the brand is strengthened.

So as we head into this week of holiday madness, think of how to make the tribe that follows you, “stars”.

At first it might seem like a strange way to build your credibility by making someone else the “star” but creating a way to elevate a tribe member status is a wonderful way to build loyalty and increase your subject matter expertise.
