That seems easier said versus actually doing.  Here’s why…

YOU’RE BUSY!

There’s nothing wrong with that… you are running a business. Who on earth has the time to write content (or speak or video).

Well, you need to find a way.  Because, that consistent communication is VITAL to the success of your Infinity Marketing  Machine.

Now… Here’s an idea.

Think of your content as programming.

What aspect of your business do you enjoy talking about that you can create a weekly “show” about?  And by show I mean post.

Look at what I do… I celebrate the 5 C’s of the Infinity Marketing Machine.  Monday is Subject Matter Expert, Tuesday is Content and Consistency, Wednesday is Midweek Motivation, Thursday is Infinity Customer, Friday is Big Money, Saturday is Try This, and Sunday is the Week in Review.

That’s it.  I know, on each day of the week, my general topic.

That takes a whole bunch of stress out of my content creation.  I look at my blog as programming.

For you… do a week in review, have a customer highlight, and that leaves 5 more.  Just think about what you can discuss on a weekly basis!  This will give your readers an inside connection to who you are and what your business is all about.

It makes you appear organized, knowledgeable, and gives you the expert status you desire!

Today… come up with your content “programming” – you’ll be happy you did!

When I’m creating marketing ideas the easy way to come up with the best ideas is to consider the customer as a guest.

Sometimes this is a tough leap to make… depending on your crowd… but when you visualize the customer in your house you get a completely different perspective on how to interact with them.

For example… if you invite someone to your home, and they show up, you invite them in.  I mean how rude would it be to leave them on the porch?!

Same for your business.  Every piece of advertising you create is an invitation to visit your “home” a.k.a. your business.

That means… when they show up, treat them well!  Make sure your store/or office front is clean, welcoming, and that you are happy to see them!

Remember, you INVITED them.

See the difference?  If you look at marketing/advertising as your way to INVITE people it’s completely different from placing an ad or writing a post.

I’ve spent a lot of time on this particular topic… because I really, really like it.  I created a mini-series.  The first of a three part series on the way to becoming a tribeologist!

Yes… how cool is that.

We start with the marketing party system, move to the mini-infinity, then complete pre-tribe.  These three things are going to transform your business, easily, into it’s own Infinity Marketing Machine – based on the concept of building a loyal tribe that knows, likes, and trusts you!

Tuesday: Content and Consistency

Yesterday I talked about how I hate running… today I’m going to talk about perspiration.  Hummm…. I subliminally must want to work out.  You see, I’ve had a problem with my Achilles tendon for over 18 months.   Here’s the problem, it hurts, I do the exercises, it feels better, then I stop.  Then it hurts, I do the exercises, it feels better, then I stop.  This goes on and on.

The good news is… I’m consistent!

Here’s the scoop  about what my painful Achilles, it should teach us that we need PATIENCE.

My plan for the past 6 weeks has been to do the exercises whether I “think” I need them or not.  I’m not perfect at it… but I’ve been much more consistent.  And being the stubborn person I am, I hate to admit it, the exercises do work.

Whew. I got through that!

How does this relate to content creation and your Infinity Marketing Machine?  You need to be patient, persistent, and put the work in… you might not sweat, but this does take consistent effort.  However, patience is the part we forget to put in the mix.

Patience is needed when you feel like you’re creating a post and you get one “like” OR even zero “likes”.  Patience is needed when you create a magnificent and informative passion page for your website and no one reads it that day.  Patience is needed when you create an email with an “buy now” offer and no one buys anything!  Ugh.

The reason this needs patience is you cannot quit. You can adjust and modify.  But don’t quit.

Remember, one part of content creation and content marketing is your new role as a farmer. You plant your articles and in the future your traffic will grow.  No one would put a seed in the ground and expect an ear of corn at the end of the day.  However, if you plant the seed, by the time August rolls around you’re eating corn on the cob!

Traffic has the same effect.  Create the article and later you’ll receive traffic.

Patience. We all need patience.  I feel a Guns and Roses song approaching.

Welcome to Monday!  We’re starting the week with us.

I know… you’re thinking, “she’s way too happy for a Monday morning” — well you’re right!  Time to get up and think positive thoughts about ourselves.

It’s time to promote yourself.

This is a very important skill to learn and practice because you need to get the word out about YOU.  The reason behind this is to build credibility online.

If you had a customer in front of you they would be able to ask questions and gauge your honesty by your answers, not just what you say… but how you say it.

Online, you need to build your Subject Matter Expertise.  This is the magic that is you… meaning 3rd party things that help tell your story.  For example, your educational training, this could be a degree or certificate.  Both are earned from a 3rd party institution.

You could include newspaper or magazine articles that show your credibility.  Again, written by a source, other than you, helps to tell your story.  Here’s a story about how I’ve implemented the Infinity Marketing Machine at our family marina… cool, eh?  I like to think that when you read it, it adds to my social proof!

Awards are a great source of 3rd party proof, too.  Show the photo of you on stage or the trophy you won.  These are all helpful things to show a total story about you and your excellence.

Remember, just like today’s inspiration state, excellence is not being best, it’s doing the best.  HOWEVER, to do your best… sometimes you need to prove how you are the best and that comes from boasting your Subject Matter Expertise.

As we welcome our Monday let’s review the 5 C’s of the Infinity Marketing Machine.  These 5 C’s are the foundation that convert your customers into a tribe that knows, likes, and trusts you.  They are:  Character, Content, Consistency, Customers and Cash.

Today I’m looking at our first “C” of Character a little different.  I want to look at it from a leadership angle.

Regularly I write about the importance of “proving” your credibility with honors/awards, education/certifications, and even blogging your expertise.  This is important.  However, like today’s inspirations states, “People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision.”- John C Maxwell.

This tells me you need to be a leader.  And as we convert our customers into a loyal tribe, they need you to lead.

How do you do this?

Let’s go back to that blog thing… whether you like writing or speaking, you need to provide original content about your store, business, and industry.  It’s important!

You’re already talking with customers and reading industry magazines or attending conferences.  Learn to share this information on your website whether it’s written or transmitted via video.  This first hand presentation of information is valuable to positioning yourself as a Subject Matter Expert!

Think about what draws you to a business… it’s information. You visit a site and can see the product or service… but what about the information.  Do they share their story, history, or expertise? When they do feature this first hand information… you trust them.

This is the importance of our first “C” and as you see it’s fundamental to building trust with a tribe.

Do you want to make money while you sleep?  This is the best thing ever.  When you wake up, check your email, and find that you have an order!

This is not new.

Prior to email… we used to walk to our mail box and see envelopes with checks.  Remember the informercial (before they were called informercials) you can make money while you sleep with one small ad!  I know you remember.  Then all you had to do was send in a couple dollars to find out the secret which was placing small classified ads in newspapers around the country.

Now with the internet, this doesn’t seem like a big deal.  But it was a HUGE deal back in the day, this kit included addresses of all newspapers across the country!  (not that I ever bought one of these packets)

OK, I’ll admit it.  I have a rule.  I can write down the 800 number (or nowadays, the website) but I cannot buy anything until morning.  OH my… someone is going to have to ban me from buying things on Instagram. Same thing, the ads are sooooooo enticing!

But back to the make money while you sleep.

Here’s the spin.  How about making “big money” over and over and over.

This is the new goal for a small business.  You need to learn to create an Infinity Product.  This is a product that has no upper limit. It rejuvenates itself.  For example, a downloadable book!  You create it once, and sell it again and again.

The reason I mention it is because it’s fun with something like this sells… you can check out my Best and Simple Social Media Planner that I sell on Etsy.  I love when it sells.  It inspires me to pass this message on to you all!  Work on your Infinity Products… yes, make more than one!

When you think of a Cheetah, what comes to mind?  Yes – the pattern of it’s coat.  Now imagine a Zebra, or a Giraffe, How about a Cow… then a Dalmatian?  The cow and dalmatian both have spots, yet if you see a photo of just the coats, you can tell the difference!

This is a great way to think about your brand.

Think about how the coat defines the animal… now, what “coat” defines your business?

Your brand is not a logo, but your logo represents your brand.  The brand is the feeling you evoke with your customers.

The better your customers relate or identify with your brand, the more loyal they become and that results in the transformation of customers to tribe.

So… you need to define what your brand is because if you don’t your customers will!

I want you to take a moment to define these three things to help you build that basic foundation for your brand.

1) Target Audience – who is your target audience. Get specific. Come up with an ideal customer profile.  Do this for each profit center in your business.  It helps to get very specific.

2)  Unique Selling Proposition (USP) – What is the one thing you do better than your competition.  OK, you may have more than one or there may be one for each profit center.  But it’s important to define this so you can promote it.  For example, our winter boat storage is scheduled on our customers agenda.  Many of our competitors tell the customer when their reservation date is, we let the customer decide.  This is a USP.

3) Live Up to It – If you show photos of a brand new hotel room and customers show up to find a dingy worn out room you are not living up to your brand.  If you say you do something you must follow through… OTHERWISE your brand becomes dishonest and that’s a huge problem.

Today, as you build your Infinity Marketing Machine, really focus on your tribe building skills by jotting down your answers in the three categories.  It’s critical to help you focus your messaging which attracts customers that stick around a long time!

“Just because you can’t measure it doesn’t mean it’s not real”

If you can’t measure it if you can’t manage it.  Yeah… that’s true and yet it’s not. There are times I create content and I wonder if anyone is reading it.

Most recently was our newsletter, TonkaThursday.

We have been creating this for a little over a year.  And you can monitor open rates and you can monitor how many are on your subscription list… but it’s hard to monitor it’s impact.

This newsletter is not about our marina, it’s about activities in our surrounding area.  The festivals and gatherings are emphasized. We rarely put information about our marina in the newsletter, other than on the masthead.

SO… is it effective?

Well, yesterday a customer stopped in our store and signed up for Winter Storage.  He was getting ready to leave the state for the winter.  He said, “will I still get TonkaThursday”?  He went on to say that many times he and his wife would look at it to find out what to do over the weekend.

It’s hard to monitor effectiveness of the publication, but one customer, leaving the state, is looking to stay connected with the area… so much so that he stopped in to make sure of it!

This is the best feeling of all!  It’s the reason we work so hard on creating content for our Infinity Marketing Machines.

How do you chase something you can’t find?  We’re quickly approaching hunting season.  In Minnesota this is a big deal. We have duck season, deer, and a bunch others… I’m not a hunter but it’s big.

If you’re hunting… you clearly go where your animal is… whether it’s an open field, in a marsh, or in the woods, your animal has a habitat.  It makes sense to go hang out where they are.

Well… we in advertising we use to have a pretty easy time finding our field, marsh, or woods.  It was easy to place an ad in the Sunday paper, the phone book, or on the radio.

But then the internet happened.

Now we could place an ad on many websites, our own website, or even in the newspaper.  It’s very noisy and there are tons of places to put an ad.  When we actually pay money for an ad it’s likely that our competitors are doing the same thing.

Wouldn’t it be better to have a closed market where we’re the only ad?

YES!

The Infinity Marketing Machine allows us to create our own closed market!  We have a great group of customers in a location we can find them!  We communicate with them, build trust, and increase sales.

It puts us into a position of strength.  We no longer are reactive to what our competition is doing and instead gives us the opportunity to bond with our customers.
